Mrs.Toaster Posted August 28, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 28, 2009 After enjoying the delicious food on my cruise to Alaska last week, I was convinced I had probably gained 10 pounds. I weighed myself two days after we returned home, and I had actually LOST 5 pounds. I need to cruise more often!!!:p
RickT Posted August 28, 2009 #2 Share Posted August 28, 2009 Congrats... I too usually lose weight on a cruise. I know I eat a lot more, but between working out in the gym and all the walking I do on shore it seems to balance out rather nicely...

Infomercial---you could get very wealthy selling "The cruise diet". :) Actually, I had the same result after our Norwegian cruse this summer. I climbed one hill after another though. chessbriar Posted August 28, 2009 #4 Share Posted August 28, 2009 My problem isn't weight gain on the ship, it's coming home. After time on a cruise, coming home and cooking just isn't in the cards. I usually can 1-2 lbs on the cruise and 5-10 in the week that follows. Less activity and meals not as healthy.

I&J Cruisers Posted August 28, 2009 #6 Share Posted August 28, 2009 Boy,can I relate! It's so hard to go back to reading normally after eating with abandon on a ship. Thats the secret. Going back to the way you normally eat when you get home. Irene
Cecethekittencat Posted August 28, 2009 #7 Share Posted August 28, 2009 We've had the same luck with the cruises due to all the activity and the lovely healthy grilled entrees we get at dinner! And, we avoid any meal that's a buffet like the plague!
mek Posted August 28, 2009 #8 Share Posted August 28, 2009 I go on a diet right before I cruise and try to loose around 5 lbs, that way I can eat what I want if I gain 5 lbs on the cruise, no problem.
drfun48 Posted August 28, 2009 #9 Share Posted August 28, 2009 I find that I always lose weight on a cruise because all that vigorous chewing, and lifting those heavy plates on the breakfast and lunch buffets burns so many calories.

spearmint Posted August 28, 2009 #11 Share Posted August 28, 2009 Weight gain? I look at food and I grow. After our upcoming back-to-back 28 day cruise, I have rented a crane to be at Port Everglades to lift me off the ship because I will never fit in that tiny gangway!!!!!! Confirmed landlubbers will never know what we have to suffer in order to cruise.....
derf5585 Posted August 28, 2009 #12 Share Posted August 28, 2009 The weight gain is caused by the salt in the ocean mixing with the air we breath causing water retention. IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT

Can'tstopcruising Posted August 29, 2009 #15 Share Posted August 29, 2009 Spearmint, we, too, are doing a b2b this winter, for a total of 21 days. It will be a first for us. I know I will have to be very careful about what goes into my mouth!
