Quick question - if you buy them onboard, they will be in USD, correct? I am in Canada, so when I come home to book my cruise, my costs online are shown to me in Canadian dollars. Will the cruise next certificates show up in my account in CAD, at whatever the current rate NCL is doing their currency conversion online (much like the cruise cost itself and some of the shore excursions)?

I understand completely about denominations and OBC. My question is, exactly what can you use the OBC for during the current cruise? Since we already have the UBP and the 3 SDP, plus $100 NCL OBC from booking, not sure what I could spend $250 or $500 more OBC during the course of a week. Can it be used in the casino, or only for food and gifts, etc?

I don't know if the still do this but I was given extra obc if taken as casino credit example: purchase one $250 FCC and receive $100 obc. Ask cruise next consultant for casino credit voucher and purchase one FCC/ get $125 casino credit.

If you don't want to purchase anything else onboard, one FCC will just be charged $150 to onboard account so the one $250 FCC credit cost is actually only $150. The obc is just a way of wording to make you think that you should spend extra onboard. The actual charge is just the cost of fcc's minus the discount(s). In your case with $100 obc, if you spend zero extra onboard and purchase one FCC your final bill for the one $250 FCC will be $50. If you purchase 2 $250 FCC worth $500, your on board account would be charged $150 (discount is higher if purchase 2)

There is an ideal thing to spend the OBC on. The cruise next vouchers themselves.

As stated above, the OBC is applied to your cruise account, which is the same pool as you you pay for the cruise next vouchers out of.

You don't pay $250 for a voucher and get $100 OBC, you just pay $150 for the voucher.

You don't need to spend it on anything else.

By default, the cruise next vouchers show up in the currency for the place where you booked your cruise.

I'm in the UK, so the $250 is converted into pounds at the current rate and that is what I see when I log in. I have a couple of vouchers on my account at the moment and they are worth slightly different amounts because of this.

There is NO POINT in people being confused when the purchase is a simple matter. The "marketing" of the "OBC" - IGNORE it.

Simple thinking.- the PURCHASE and CREDIT are done at the SAME time. The cost is MORE that the CREDIT. You are going to owe money. Therefore there is no need to worry about any obc, being non/refundable etc. The credit is paying for the Cruise Next Deposits. ....

I bought 4 cruise next vouchers in May on the Breakaway was charge 1000. Charge place on my sail and sign card then 500. OBC applied to my sail and sign. So I paid 500. For 1000. Of future cruise money. I am able to use 2 vouchers if I book a balcony for a cruise 6 months in the future.

So just to clarify, I cannot use the Next Certificates to put toward the purchase of another cruise?

The Cruise Next office/desk on the ship is usually located near the Shore Excursions desk.

Check with the NCL person within or ask the SX people ?

There will be a form to fill out to purchase the certificates usually provided in your paperwork

left in your stateroom; at the SX desk or perhaps at one of the Latitudes cocktail parties.

You can purchase 1 for $250 getting $100 OBC back to use on the cruise you are now on.

Also a better deal you can buy 2 for $500 getting $250 OBC 4 for $1000 getting $500 OBC.

And as noted only 1 can be used per cabin per cruise - although sometimes 2 can be used

with certain other seasonal promos. Suites and Havens maybe allowed 2 - check with NCL

for details. Certificates can be used as a down payment or to place a hold on future cabin

reservations - additional monies maybe required to complete the initial reservation.

Certificates must be used WITHIN 4 years otherwise poof void money lost like a bad casino bet.

The certificates maybe transferred bartered sold on ebay - best between Latitudes members.

Get all the facts - talk with the NCL rep on board - a good deal if you like and have loyalty for NCL !

I have $150 of OBC that came with the booking. Can those funds be used to pay for the Next voucher, effectively getting it for free?

The whole game of NCL is to effectively give every NCL cruiser a

$125 discount on a future cruise (for an Inside or Oceanview cabin) or

$250 discount on a future cruise (for a Balcony or higher cabin)

Its that simple!

The use of terms like ''OBC'' etc only confuse people.

This is a smart way to multiply their bookings exponentially. Like 1 cabin buying 4 more future cabins! Multiply that into 4000 cabins & they will have sold 16000 future cabins! If everyone bites the bait of a $125 discount.

And to avoid reducing their profit, NCL simply keeps the price of an Inside & Oceanview cabin $125 higher & a Balcony cabin $250 higher.

Therefore, NCL fares are usually MORE than RCCL, Carnival, Celebrity, etc.

The deal to use 2 or more certificates when booking does not always run and does not necessarily have to be on balcony or higher. Sometimes it is for specific sailings like Europe or sometimes it is for sailings within a certain date. I'm leaving on the Breakaway Sunday and was able to use 2 for a studio cabin - it was just offered when I booked. Even when there is no "use 2 certificates deal" mentioned on the NCL website it has been reported that you can sometimes get an NCL cruise consultant to apply 2 certificates anyway.

The other thing with the Cruise Next that has been left out is that unless you are booking a suite you can use it towards your whole deposit. I think the normal deposit for a 7 day cruise is $250 per person. So if you are booking a balcony for 2 people, you only have to use the CruiseNext to hold the cabin.

They want you to rebook on their line. The way it's marketed many pay the actual $250 and take the obc/end up spending a little more on something they wouldn't normally.

Your theory on increasing price on all their cruises doesn't hold. I've used them for last minute inside stateroom for Alaska cruises where I've also received obc essentially making the cruise about the least expensive of any vacation I've ever taken. It's all about when you purchase your cruise and going price and promotions on that date. They change it up all the time. The one thing that stays the same is the cruise deposit reduced coupon purchase on board that is good for 4 years on any 6+ night sailing. If taking another cruise it's a no brainer to pick up one or two-especially if you have obc.

Normally -1- per cabin - but from time to time NCL allows 2 on certain promo destinations.

If in a Suite or Haven class cabin 2 maybe used.

In any event check with NCL for the answer or your TA who may have to ask NCL.

For the OP - go to the NCL site and login check your MY ACCOUNT for the certificate numbers

Again check with NCL for the history of the certificates if things are not in order.

Don't wait on this NCL may have misapplied the cruise credits - you wait you lose if not corrected !

Are you sure about the using 2 on Suites/ Haven still? We tried to do this in January and were unable to. Understandably this could have been an issue because our TA was kind of moronic and I'm not sure she was able to ask the question to NCL accurately. The other reason why I ask is wouldn't that devalue the Suite Cruise Next Certificates? They already have less of a kickback of OBC so if I can use 2 of the regular ones for less money what would my incentive be to buy the Suite ones?

Website shows it is going on now. Call your TA and have them add it.

I think the only reason to buy the CruiseNext Suite version is because it works as the full deposit on a suite. Unless there is a reduced deposit deal happening, you would have to give more of a deposit than just the regular CruiseNext on a suite. And they do not always run the use 2 promo.
