Breakfast & lunch at Cagneys

Recommended Posts

Hi! We have a suite on the Gem leaving May 11. So excited!!!

I have read on cc that the Garden Cafe is crazy for lunch on the first day and that we should try and go to one of the main dining rooms for lunch. Can suite guests go to Cagneys for lunch instead on the day we leave? This is my first cruise and I am not sure how the first day works.

When we got on the Gem on the 4/12 sailing, we asked someone if the VIP lunch at Cagney's was open and they said no. Since we got back, we've seen a few posts here that said it actually was open. It is worth the effort to take the mid-ship elevators up to 13 to check. The restaurants (buffet and dining room) get packed for that first lunch.

We ate breakfast and lunch almost every day for our 13-day TransAtlantic. I'm inclined to say that having that benefit was one of the major highlights of our cruise. We were indulged with great food, wonderful service, and a luxurious setting with beautiful views; to say that we were "spoiled" is an understatement.

It sure as heck beat crowded buffet lines with people pushing and shoving and hoarding precious table space.

On my last Gem Cruise, I was also told that Cagney's was not open for lunch. So we went to the buffet, had lunch, walked upstairs to check out the ship and yes, indeed Cagneys was open.

Cagney's is NOT open for lunch for non-suite passengers. So, if you did not identify yourself as a suite (not minisuite) passenger, you were given the correct answer.

This was Cagney's breakfast menu from April 5-12, 2008.

We never made it to Cagney's or the Courtyard for lunch, but we did see a menu in the Courtyard. The breakfast menu was the same in the Courtyard as it was in Cagney's, but I'm not sure about lunch. This is the menu we saw.

We asked our cabin steward while he was in our suite. So no...we were given the wrong information. No big deal I know for next time.

can anyone confirm if fruit juice (ie. Orange juice, apple, tomato juice) is included with breakfast or is it an additional charge. I had heard that they were included and available for breakfast at the buffet, so assumed they would also be available free of charge at Cagney's for breakfast, however according to the menu's posted above they show a charge. Anyone know the scoop on this?

Juices are free, unless you ask for freshly squeezed juices.

From looking at the posted menu, the only charge is for "freshly squeezed orange juice". No charge for other juices.

That's a great tip, thanks (these boards are so useful!). I wouldn't have thought to check if Cagneys was open for lunch on the first day. On previous cruises (RCL and Carnival) the lunch after embarkation has always been crowded and manic. In fact, we were only discussing recently that we might give lunch a miss that day. Now, we'll be heading to Cagneys.

On our Pearl cruise last year, after being escorted to our suite on embarkation day, our butler mentioned that we should go to Cagney's which was open for suite passengers for lunch. I had the BEST hamburger I've ever had in my life!

We were hoping that under the new 2.0 that Cagney's would be open for breakfast and lunch for suite pax on the Dawn and WOOHOO - it is!

Guess I know where we'll be eating on embarkation day:D .

  • 9 years later...
i'm in a suite and brother is a mini suite on the dawn can we both go to cagneys for beakfast and lunch

Mini suites do not get any of the suite perks, so no your brother is not eligible to have breakfast and lunch at Cagneys.

P.S. this thread is 9 years old

Is this a new record???

Or maybe there are active threads asking about room service on the Norway???

I know, right... 9 years... wow. Nope, suites are suites only if the category is an "s" or an "H".

Any other category is destined to dine in the MDR or Buffet or O'Sheehans... one of my favourites.

PS, I obviously had nothing better to do this evening so no worries for me... ;p

I have to give davidk credit though. At least he did look for an answer rather than just start a new thread like most people do (including me).

And I did have room service on the Norway in 1996. My very first cruise.
