Does anyone have any experience being put on MTD waiting list? I was told by cruise consultant that we would probably get changed from 5:30 dining to MTD. Wonder if that is true.

We are used to cruising with NCL but decided to give RCCL a try for New England cruise in October. We have been put on a waiting list for my time dining & been assigned the 5:30 dining time. We normally like to sit at a table for 2 & prefer not to share a table for dinner. If you are assigned a dining time can you request a table for 2 ahead of time or do you request when you get to the MDR? I was told that there are only a few tables for 2 by others who have cruised RCCL in the past. Any information about dining would be greatly appreciated.

Alaina the reviews you & Heather posted were great. We too am from Louisiana & have never sailed RCCL but are considering this cruise for October. We have sailed mostly NCL. Would you say the 2 cruise lines are comparable? NCL offers the same itinerary for the Gem but out of NYC. Not thrilled about going to NYC. Being from Louisiana we never are too thrilled with cruise line food. Any additional advice that you can give us about this cruise or sightseeing in Boston would be greatly appreciated.

Would like to hear comments of likes & dislikes from people who have sailed both RCCL & NCL so that we can have some basis for comparison. We are looking at a Canada cruise on Serenade of Seas out of Boston & NCL Gem out of NYC. Both have the same ports. Hopefully some people have sailed both & can provide us with some useful information.

We have cruised with NCL multiple times & have been very pleased but we now considering RCCL Serenade of Seas for Canada cruise out of Boston. Would like to hear comments of likes & dislikes from people who have cruised both cruise lines?
NCL offers the same cruise on the Gem but it is out of NYC. Not too thrilled about dealing with the hassles of transportation in NYC. Hopefully some have cruised both ships & can give us some info for a comparison.

Can we walk from the Seaport Boston Hotel to the cruise terminal or is it too far to walk with luggage?
-
138east -- how far is Quincy & Dorchester from the cruise port? Would it be convenient to stay here to sightsee in Boston?

We booked our excursion through NCL not through an independent operator.

Transportation is by bus.

We are contemplating going on the Gem for Canada cruise. How much of a hassle is it to get to a Times Square hotel from Laguardia for a pre-cruise night. Never been to NYC & seem to be a little intimidated. We would stay at Novotel which I think is pretty close to the port. Suggestions or pros & cons for Uber, taxi, or car service would be appreciated. We would use NCL shuttle back to airport after cruise. Also does the Gem sail past the Statue of Liberty? Any help would be appreciated.

We have cruised numerous times on NCL & are considering RCL for a New England cruise in October. For formal nights on RCL how strictly enforced is the dress code? Is a coat & tie needed for men & do women need to wear formal dresses? We are used to casual dress for NCL.

Which area of the city would be the best for what we want to do? 2 of us are just staying 1 night - fly out on October 9. We are staying at Seaport Hotel 1 night prior to bruise. Would like to pay less than $300.

Will disembark in Boston on Oct. 8 & would like recommendations for hotels or areas where hotes are that would be centrally located for some walking sightseeing like Freedom Trail & would be able to store luggage till checkin. Any recommendations of tours & historical sights to visit would also be appreciated. There seems to be so much to see in Boston that it seems overwhelming to try to plan. Any help would be great.

We ate at Cagney's & Il Adiago. Loved Cagney's but did not care for Il Adiago. We actually liked the food in MDR - Seven Seas. Make sure you head to Seven Seas when you get on the Sun instead of being herded to the crowded buffet. We probably had only about 20 people in there & it was quiet. We had a table near a window & could look out on the harbor. You will love the Sun - great ship with great service but you will love the Alaska scenery even more.

Both cruises are for September 30 & hotels costs are comparable - Novotel in Times Square & Seaport in Boston. Flight costs are about the same. My biggest concern for New York was getting to hotel from LGA. Big city seems very intimidating.

We have cruised 3 times with NCL but have never done RCCL.

We are looking at cruising to Canada/New England with NCL out of Manhatten or RC out of Boston. Both go to the same ports. Would like to hear pros & cons about embarking from these 2 cities. Both cruises cost the same. We would fly in the day before & would not have much time to sightsee in either place. Would like to hear from people who have experience using these 2 embarkation cities.

We are looking for a 1 night post cruise hotel near Jean Lesage International Airport. Any recommendations? We would prefer a hotel with a free shuttle to the airport.

We were on the Sun last summer from Vancouver to Seward. We loved the ship. Tips include when you board head to the MDR that is open for lunch instead of the buffet. Bring clips for the shower curtain since it tends to fold in on you as the shower is small. Bring a light rain suit in your bag for excursions just in case it rains. Use your balcony to avoid the crowds in Glacier Bay & Hubbard Glacier. On our trip prior to that one we went out on upper decks with all the people thinking we would see more but that was not the case as you see the same sights from the privacy of your balcony. The ship does a strange deck plan that takes some getting used to and I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. We had read so many stories on CC of how the ship was old & beat up but we found that not to be true. We also did not experience the bad odors commonly reported on CC in many of the reviews. Enjoy --- it is a trip of a lifetime!!!!

We used Dyea Dave last summer & thought it was a great excursion. One of the best we've had in our 2 trips to Alaska.

That is what we did. We took ACT bus to Anchorage airport & picked up our rental. We had rented very early & got a really cheap rate on an SUV. We backtracked & went to Girdwood & stayed at Alyeska Resort prior to driving to Denali. You will love being able to stop when & where you want by having a rental as opposed to a cruise tour. Have fun!!

We used ACT bus last year to get from Seward to Anchorage with stop at wildlife conservation center. We were very pleased with their service & would choose them again.

Alaska Cruise Transfer is who we used & were very satisfied with their service.

Am I understanding this correctly that only one MDR has MTD? I thought both MDR had MTD. If we keep our assigned dining time can we request a table for two?
