  1. Motel Nord Haven - now called Aurora Denali Lodge. Older place but very large rooms which are very, very clean. It is away from the commercialized area in Healy about a 10 minute drive to park entrance. Free breakfast & they will make you a lunch for a small fee before you head into the park. Added bonus - discount given at Diamond Grill Restaurant which has very good food with large portions.

  2. Wilderness Explorer & Crab Feast is a great excursion. We have cruised Alaska twice & it one of the few excursions we would repeat. You take a short bus ride to the George Inlet Lodge where you board a small boat that travels to the crab pots where they harvest Dungeness crabs. You even get to take your picture with one of the crabs from the pot. Captain Gill called resident eagles & fed them bait fish only a few feet from the boat. They swooped down within feet of the boat. Back at the lodge we had an all you can eat Dungeness crab boil & blueberry cheesecake dessert. Great excursion that I highly recommend.

  3. Delta has a flight to Quebec with only a 55 minute layover at JFK. We would be arriving on a domestic flight from New Orleans at I think is terminal 2 & next flight is would be terminal 4. Have never flown to JFK so I would like some input as to whether this is doable. We normally would not consider a flight with such a short layover but this flight is significantly cheaper than all others.

  4. I suggest you look at Motel Nord Haven (now Aurora Denali Lodge). It is in Healy. Older place but very large rooms & very, very clean. They provide breakfast & you can order a box lunch for your Denali tour. It is very quiet away from the bustle of the businesses & only 10-15 minutes from the park. You also get a discount at the Black Diamond Restaurant which has really good food with large portions. Highly recommend both.

  5. We traveled on the Sun late May last year & had no odor problems. We had a midship balcony. Loved the ship. We had heard so many negative things about the ship prior to sailing that we were worried but we found none of it to be true. Food in main dining was good, service was great & northbound itinerary that included Glacier Bay & Hubbard Glacier was fabulous. We would not hesitate on traveling on the Sun again.

  6. NCL northbound from Vancouver to Seward on the Sun is a great itinerary. It also includes Hubbard Glacier & Glacier Bay. We did this cruise last year & it was much better than our round trip from Seattle that we did in 2012. We got a balcony & it was so nice not to have to deal with the crowds on the upper decks.

  7. I would like suggestions for a Quebec hotel prior to our cruise in late September or early October. Hopefully close to cruise pier. Any suggestions are welcome as we are clueless about what areas of the city are good places to stay. Have looked at TripAdvisor but still would like to hear suggestions. We will be sailing on NCL Dawn.

  8. Excursion was 4 hours. We still had enough time to shop in Ketchikan. We payed about $150 per person. It was expensive but worth it. I am confident you will enjoy it. Go to TripAdvisor & look it up - it might be listed as George Inlet Lodge.

  9. We have sailed to Alaska twice & had a balcony cabin because of the great scenery so we were wondering if a balcony is beneficial on a Canada cruise. We know that this is very subjective but would like to hear from experienced Canada cruisers. Is a balcony for this trip worth the extra cost? In our opinion it was for Alaska but we are completely uninformed about this East Coast cruise. Please give your opinions.

  10. We are looking at the Dawn itinerary to Canada & would like to get feedback & info on this cruise. Itinerary includes Boston, Portland, Halifax, Charlottetown, Gaspesie, Saguenay, & Quebec. Any info from anyone who has done these ports would be appreciated. We have never cruised the East Coast only Alaska & the Caribbean.
