  1. We had this promo on the Escape and spent it all. Had some fun doing things we'd not usually do while cruising. Watching all those tickets come out you felt like a kid "winning" Love the idea of giving it to some kids if you really don't want to use it yourself

  2. Did you receive a call directly from the cruise line offering the upgrade or is there a phone number anyone can call to ask for upgrade? My last cruise I tried to move up to a better category/location but was told no changes within 30 days prior, but others seem to always get upgrades, so trying to figure this out for our next trip. Anyone know?

  3. Thanks for the great review, really appreciate the dailies and port pics.. My family spent the day on Blue Kay back in Dec and we had a great time there. Did you happen to remember seeing what the girls there were charging for massages? My daughter had one while I kept an eye on the 3yr old. Going back in Sept and trying to decide to go there once again or try further down the beach for more comfortable chairs this time. While walking did you happen to see lots of sea grass piled up along the beach? They were having a huge problem back then and Blue Kay was the one with the least noticeable smell Thanks

  4. Keep an eye during the cruise on your onboard credit usage. We recently ate 3 different days at Food Republic, only two were applied to OBC, the third and last day they charged us without applying remaining OBC 1st. Went to Guest Services and they agreed it was incorrectly done. They couldn't do anything about it, had to be done with the OBC desk, with their limited hours. I spoke with the asst. financial guy himself later during open hours and he agreed it was incorrect balance, BUT he didn't change it, left it the way it had been! Of course, I didn't realize that till saw the final statement, too late to do anything! Next time, I'll be spending early on just in case they do another mix up

  5. OMG loved the seafood medley puff pastry lobster bisque appetizer at Le Bistro! YUMMY, without a doubt my favorite food entire week on the Escape! My husband was going nuts, I couldn't shut up about how great it tasted. He's not much of a seafood fan to begin with, so what would he know, but he had to agree once he tasted it (I truly didn't even want to share) The scallop entrée was also tasty, my favorite dining experience of all 7 nights in specialty resturants

  6. We also just got off the Escape and have to agree about the smoke smell. The casino area covers so much deck space where people can smoke, there's no way it doesn't flow into other areas. We certainly wouldn't eat dinner outside Le Bistro area, and by the end of the week could hardly party at Skyline bar as much as we would have liked to because of it. Great week and lots of good times! That moon and being at sea is what makes cruising easy to do over and over and over again....Getaway next for us!

  7. I've sailed many cruise lines over the past 20 years, mostly Celebrity for the past 5 due to being Elite status with them. Decided to take a break from them to try Getaway last Sept and really enjoyed, enough to book Escape and another Getaway coming up. Went back to Reflection this past Jan, and was so bored with the same ole stuff, nothing to do. Don't kid yourself about the dress code, most everyone still dresses up way more than anything I've seen on NCL. It's good to switch things up once in a while, its your $$ after all.

  8. Also, if they wait till onboard to purchase the 4 night dining pkg the cost will increase another $10p/p, at least that's what made me purchase in advance rather than wait to use onboard credit I'll have. They can also then make their reservations for the various restaurants

  9. Sailed the Jan 30th week, we had the ultimate dining package and ate in the Bistro almost every day, as well as the Porch. We tried all the daily specials except Wed and Thurs. Lamb Chops were nicely done, Sunday Roast was a big chunk of meat with gravy and taters, tasted ok, Mac and Cheese, big bowl of noodles with sprinkles of bacon, got boring quick. Chicken pot pie had good chunks of chicken served in a large bowl with nice flaky crust top only, no bottom, rather soupy. Had Caesar salads, steak cobb salad, order meat med, med rare was not good, perhaps the difference in cut of meat? Burgers were fine, turkey club in a croissant, so not the largest sandwich. Cowboy crepe was good and root beer float, shakes were yummy. At the Porch, we had the seafood tower multiple times, some were better than others. Liked the shrimp cocktail best, fish tacos were good, lobster roll once was enough, Branzino was a nice, Burger, soups so-so. Molecular Bar they did the week during late night and while in port. Never did see more than 4 people while walking thru the area, really DEAD. No reason to want to sit there, wonder if the World Bar will change anything.

  10. Currently on board Reflection, sailing in cabin 6240. Great location, triple size balcony, nice cabin. Some minor obstruction from the lifeboat, but not a big deal in our opinion. One mattress seems newer than the other one, sort of weird, but not a biggie. Balcony could use a good cleaning, lots of white soot/specks and someones toe nail out there Gross! Guess the room stewards don't figure that into their daily duties. Unfortunately, the toilet has that men's urinal smell, don't remember that from when we were last in this same cabin two years ago.

  11. After cruising only Celebrity and a few RCI for the past 10 or so years, Elite and Diamond levels, we decided last Sept to try NCL Getaway. We had a Great time! Loved having some different specialties to try, watching the Burn the Floor dancers while eating in the Tropicana room, the Waterfront area and new bars to try, different and better entertainment, just all NEW for a change. When we sail Celebrity, it's like coming back to an old familiar place and we have a good time, but we know what to expect, same ole thing. Turns out we're Platinum level with NCL, so my next cruise with them in two weeks gets me a free dinner at LeBistro with a bottle of wine, bottle of bubbly in the cabin, laundry, etc. I also don't mind the increase in the DSC or adding 18% on a free beverage package, only costs $136 for the week and includes more expensive bar drinks than Celebrity select package. It's your money, spend it on whatever ship you choose

  12. Thanks chicagopaul for doing this review, much appreciated. Our past 5 or so cruises we've been able to purchase the unlimited specialty dining packages for the cruise. Can you let me know if you run across anyone with the package (they put a little red sticker with a star on your sea pass card if you have the package) and if so, does it now include the updated Porch menu as well as Bistro on five? In the past, they were both included, but at that time was still the old menu, etc. Enjoy your cruise! We were scheduled to set sail with you yesterday for the back to back as well, but decided to change to a Jan sailing for one week and to take the kids and grandchild on a December cruise instead. I'm sure you're sailing with a fun, lively group, have a great time!
