  1. I detest checking bags at airports or cruise ships for that matter. I just completed a 16night TA with just a carry on and side bag with minimal laundry cleaned on board and managed fine. Are there less temp swings in Alaska during August. Am I nuts not taking larger suitcase?
  2. Lisbon, Cadiz, Malaga, Ibiza and Barcelona are all cities you can do on your own. Wonderful places to explore. No need to book any excursions. Cadiz and Malaga have amazing food markets to visit and eat. DO NOT waste your time going to Gibraltar. It's a cluster with having your passport stamped. The day is better spent in Cadiz. Seville and Granada are more suited for land trips given the hours spent driving back and forth.
  3. One of the worst web sites. I do have better luck when I use the app on phone.
  4. We need to merge this thread with "NCL intentionally misses ports"
  5. About 10 years ago I took an NCL out of Venice. A fair percentage of the passengers were southern European. Many of them were incredibly rude and never got the memo on what waiting in line is all about.
  6. Is there really a dime's worth of difference with any of these Caribbean ports?
  7. Have you ever tried boarding a flight within 15 minutes of pushback? Once those gate doors are closed you can't board. Same principle.
  8. In my experience the bids are based on double occupancy (2x charge on bid). If you currently have a solo rate that gives you access to the Solo lounge, provided your ship has one, you would lose that access. Also be aware you have no input on cabin location.
  9. Figure using about as much cash (Euros) in Europe that you do at home. Just about none. If anything, Europe is more cashless than we are. Some smaller operations won't even take cash.
  10. I don't believe they bait and switch either. They're losing money on missed excursions. Last summer on Escape to Canada they actually added a port, Newport, which I loved. Some people on the ship were very upset about missing out on one of two planned sea days. Do they deserve compensation? Spit happens.
  11. While the film is speeded up, from a news report I heard that just before impact, the ship was traveling at 7 knots. That's REAL fast for a cargo ship to plow into a bridge pillar.
  12. I hear Antibes is a nice town and an easy bus/train ride from port. I'm going to check it out next month.
  13. I along with a few others posted what they are paying for thermal passes. A 16 night cruise price point wouldn't give OP an outside number on what pass might cost?
  14. You should be more concerned about availability than price. I just check my reservation and they are still being sold at $379.
  15. I'd like to know the average number of passengers on any given cruise that miss their ship. Probably higher than you think.
  16. Life is way too short to book air with NCL or any other 3rd party for that matter. Always book travel plans directly. Sorry about your flight.
  17. I'm on the Escape, April 8, TA 16 night. I have the thermal spa pass @ $379 and worth every penny. Especially on a TA this time of year. I had it last summer as well on the Prima from Iceland to Norway and it was wonderful. Why can't they give you a price?
  18. You haven't been overly eager for a reason. If you check bags, you won't see them until 2-230 the earliest. If you carry on, you'll be attached to them until your room is open. The buffet is a spit show on sail day. Time moves slowly anticipating casting off. No reason to get on the ship any sooner than necessary.
  19. I'm not a huge buffet guy but I'll hit it a couple of times. When on the Prima and Escape last year, I noticed a definite decline on main choices as well as veggies and salads. I also agree about the lack of cold cuts. Not just small ships.
  20. Is it bad form to take a robe from the thermal spa for use in cabin during trip?
  21. What you don't get in specialty dining options they make up for with a Hairy Chest Competition on the Lido deck. I happen to think their MDR food is a bit above NCL's in quality. The buffet on Carnival has gone way down hill.
  22. I highly doubt NCL instructs staff to report/keep toiletries left by guests. I doubt even more any passenger will reach out to NCL about the tooth brush they left in cabin.
