I get emails from both numbers, addressed to to the people on each account. I asked Captain's Club to remove my email from the other number, they refused. Even though it is my email.

the new capt club # is also my name.

i'm getting emails for both capt club #s.

The original capt club # is elite plus.

the new one says Loyalty Tier: PREVIEW

    4day cruise, day 2:

    Screenshot_20231128-170840.thumb.png.326486b7192b28d67407fd74f466caed.png

    Ncl sky:

Unlimited internet doesn't get cheaper on day two on four-day cruises. So $60 ($15/day if embarkation day)

On 10-day cruises it's gets cheaper till day 3 so 7 days left.

    7x30 is $210 - 100 is $110 ($15.71/day)

So 7 days left and still $140 for basic upgrade instead of $110.

    I asked the internet mgr.

She counted embarkation day as day 1. So basically cheapest upgrade  is 8 days left.

On Viva, the internet mgr started the day after embarkation day as day1.

Lesson learned. Ask what day they think is day 1.

    :(

So what’s your gripe with them being on commission? Because the start out asking if you want 8, you say no and then you get what asked for? If you find it so off putting then don’t buy them.

    no gripe.

    just surprised.

i thought others would also be surprised but apparently it's just me that i dont know salesmen when i see one?

    OP:

FWIW: We're on a 2/24 sailing with "Amber Cove" shown as a stop on the webpage cruise itinerary summary, which matches what is shown on our booking summary (below).

As noted in #12, GA webpage cruise itinerary summary shows "Puerto Plata" (ie Taino Bay); if your booking summary also shows "Puerto Plato" I'd bet you're going to Taino Bay (at least on paper!?).

    Ahh.. that's very helpful!

Yes, when I was at DR last week at Taino bay, cruise docs did say Puerto Plata

    Thx

I would expect all sales people on the ship to be incentivised by commission and or sales targets. This isn’t new news.

I’ve found the CN people to be nice and not pushy, yes they said what about 8 certificates I said no I need X amount. They never pushed it from there.

Yes, but to me, reaching a  target goal to get a bonus is not commission.

Ie: A Xmas bonus if the company does well.

    Yes cn people are nice.

But them starting out saying would you like 4 (or 4each if a couple) if asking to buy cn is off-putting.

I'd rather them say how many would you like.

Yes, they don't push it after I say I only want 2

I suspect it's two separate commissions and I suspect the OP is using the term "commission" liberally, but not necessarily incorrectly.

A CN salesperson could be incentivized to book cruises.  That incentive is likely some form of referral bonus/fee which is common in many lines of business.  That referral fee could be considered a "commission" according to the English language definition of "commission".  The CN salesperson's incentive/commission is likely completely separate and different from a booking agent's commission.

I have no idea if that is how it works with NCL, but it certainly is plausible.  That is the way many businesses work, including my own.  If one of my employees directly generates some upsell with an existing customer, they get a bonus that has no impact on the salesperson's commission.

    Ah.. ncl paying commission twice.

    Never thought of that.

Where does it say they get a commission for booking cruises?

Last I checked (which was early October), credit for onboard bookings goes to the agent that booked the cruise you are on.

That's what the cn person said.

Maybe they get commission only for cruises sold that weren't xferred to a ta?

Yes, of course.  And that is why they act very similarly to time-share salespeople right down to the confusing/misleading statements.

Well, i thought of them NOT mentioning that the onboard credit you receive for buying CN can be used to pay for CN is from  ncl instructions.

Ncl wants the buyer to spend/waste that obc in the shops onboard.

but yes, i agree with you about misleading in selling those.
for the other things they do (running Platinum benefits, informational talks in the Atrium), i think they do fine.

Carnival Corp owns Amber Cove but NCL ships also stop at Amber Cove, like my Epic cruise earlier this year and the Joy as mentioned by another poster on this thread.

interesting. next time i'm there, i'm going to ask why one port over the other.

interesting comment about the corkage fee! as you may know, those with a drink package are not charged a corkage fee. but i think you are correct in that you technically won't have a drink package, so a corkage fee may apply. personally, i think there is some wiggle room there. at the very least, NCL should clarify in its terms/policies whether a free drink card in the casino can exempt a guest from corkage fees. as it stands now, sadly, i don't think it will. it's not an official "drink package."

No, the casino drink card does not exempt you from the corkage fee.

i tried with wine from NCL because i was coming from another cruise. It was East West red and underneath that said 'By Norwegian Cruise line'.

The person said the drink package has to be printed on the keycard and it doesnt matter where the wine came from.

i said ok and that she can keep it since it was free to me. She said she can  write me a slip and the wine will be returned to me on the last day of cruise.

i said sure and i did get the wine back on last day

I understand that Puerto Plata has 2 cruise ship ports. We will be sailing on the NCL Getaway 2/16-2/26 and will be in Puerto Plata on the 23rd but have no idea which port we will be arriving at. We are interested in the pool/lazy river area at Taino Bay but have heard it gets very busy when there are multiple cruise ships in town.

according to Cruisedig, there will be 4 ships arriving in Puerto Plata on the 23rd but it does not specify whether they will be docking in Taino Bay or Amber cove. Does anyone know of a way to find this information?

    Thanks

i was on sky last week.
    It was Taino Bay.

My understanding is that Amber Cove is Carnival

I would have been way more surprised if you'd said that they didn't get commission. It's not something I've thought about, but I kind of took it for granted.

Why else would they push so hard to sell?

I just thought they were told to sell a 4pack of CN certs as much as possible.

Well...I figured SOME of it out...

Forgot to ask them to DROP the travel insurance (my Chase Reserve has very good coverage).

But annoying I get a "20%" discount...BUT they add a $155pp "admin fee"--ALTHOUGH, this base fare plus that admin fee is just a few $ more than 20% off, so whatever...🙄

Honestly, looking at the invoice they sent me on the hold..NOTHING adds up--WTH??!!

    Screenshot 2023-11-26 at 8.16.02 AM.png

i'm caesars diamond and have used their 20% discount pre-covid.
I never got hit with an Admin fee when i booked non-free cruises and used the 20% discount.

When did this admin fee start for non-free cruises?
and How much is the Admin fee per day?

I will board my second NCL on Monday.  15 day Panama Canal….why do people say not to use any of your minutes for a day or 2 before upgrading?  (I get 300 minutes.)

    thank you.

    Convienence.

When you activate the 300min, you get the upgrade offer.

If you decline the upgrade, you have to wait on line at internet mgr to upgrade

Given the relative sizes of the bow of the ship and the chock, it doesn't make that much difference in aerodynamics.  Also, hydrodynamics is far more important than aerodynamics for a ship, since the viscosity of the fluid (air or water) effects the drag, and hydrodynamics is about 2 orders of magnitude more important than aerodynamic drag.

ahh.. so small holes in the deck 8 bow are near negligible compared to holes in the hull.

    wait a sec...
