It is actually spelled out in the t&C that if you book onboard you have to let the staff know that you have a latitudes discount.

So no, not an outlier by any means.

If you prebook, the discount is applied automatically.

    yup.

and i said in my OP booking while on board so dont understand all these replies about getting the tier discount while pre-booking

I like to go off line when on ships so stick with limited access. 3-5 mins at a time to downloads stuff like emails and get social updates.

Free CC works well enough if patient, I set up tabs of interest and let them download in their own time to read later.

    I get $500 obc per cruise and 550internet min (150min promo, 400min casino) so i have $1000obc and 1100min if doing a b2b.

i still upgrade to unlimited because i enjoy convenience and most importantly, i have the obc to spend to enjoy my cruise

Even though i probably will never go through 1100min, i always find myself stressing if i remembered to logoff.

That overcomes the upside of limiting my time online and enjoying the ship. When i see minutes count down (even if it's 1100min), i don't waste time going down the google rabbit hole.
Like you, i used to log in, check email, news and social updates, then quickly log out if minutes are ticking.

but i found Wasting time surfing and not wandering around the ship is more enjoyable than being under the internet clock.

Latitude discount automatically applied for excursions booked through app on Star, Gem and Bliss for me. Isn't this normal?

    no.

this is the 1st time the discount has been automatic for me and i've taken like 50 ncl cruises.

EVERYTIME before this i had to wait on line at shore ex and ask them to apply the tier discount. (i do it after i've taken all my shore ex so i only need to do it once.)

    edit:

i booked while on board and not pre-booked so i can use use OBC

  4. Im on Viva and booked a ship excursion. (i'm traveling solo.)

from the moment i booked through the NCL app, my latitudes tier discount is auto-applied!

No need to visit shore excursions after the excursion and ask the price to be manually adjusted for the tier discount.

I hope all other ships get this updated software!!!

Thanks for the explanation.  Wasn't aware Escape had a different configuration of lifeboats compared the the other Breakaway/Breakaway+ class ships.

Any particular reason they choose to do that for Escape?

Escape followed a similar design of breakaway/getaway.

The Panama canal announced the bigger locks but by that time it was too late to change the design of the Escape.

for bliss/joy/encore, they put the lifeboats on the inside but they sacrificed the MDR dance floor to make room. (Lifeboats are on the same floor as the mdr)

On breakaway/getaway/escape, there are at least 2 mini-shows per 7 day cruise by the ship dancers at 6pm in the mdr.

No mini-shows on the bliss/joy/encore because there is no dance floor.

That's why i say downgrade the escape to breakaway class. it's more similar to that class than the breakaway+ class with the most glaring of it the lifeboats are hanging overboard.

it's the red headed step child of the Breakaway+ class 😛

Last night after the early Beetlejuice show (that was fab - about the best show NCL has ever put on) we went to Indulge for curry meal with fresh baked naan breads - fab - one of our fave dinners on Viva.

Beetlejuice: i'm assuming the little girl scout is the backup for the little girl playing the main character, Laura?

(That scene seemed like it was shoe horned in there just for her to do something.)

I'm also assuming both of them have graduated high school for being away from school for 6months?

And i love the ad-libs by Beetlejuice. ie: Making a comment about the St Thomas  immigration line yesterday and mentioning  things from the Haven.

Also, the 2 ghosts were from Icons? and the Black lady is also from Icons?
If so, what about the other 3 people from Icons? I didn't notice them in Beetlejuice

On the Viva 11n TA my 150min  package upgrade bottomed out at $79.xx forget which day, think that's with Sapphire discount.

You don't get a tier discount for upgrades to unlimited. it only applies to outright buying the unlimited package without trade in.

and i'm on the same Viva TA.

for me it was $210 - $100 = $110 for 7 days left ($15.71/day) . Internet mgr said day 4 was the last day prices will drop.

    Apparently, he was wrong:
    So for you it should be 6 days left on cruise: $180 - $100 = $80 ($13.33/day)

did you upgrade via the upsell screen on your phone or laptop?
Or had the internet mgr do it?

I’ve suspected those hormones to be complicit in a lot of things for a while. My biggest linkages are hormones & other food chemicals and the number of extremely tall people, as well as all the food allergies and food - related diseases.

hadn't thought of early puberty. Although it seems historically women married and bore kids at a far younger age than what I’d consider “normal “

yes, people got married earlier back then but i've Never read about 8yr olds giving birth in the 1800's

About to leave on the Prima next Friday. They are offering me an upgrade from my free 300 minutes in NCL account to the unlimited internet package at $204.86...for 14 days...$14.63 a day. Good deal or try and wait it out on the ship?

    wait for 2 reasons:

    1) upgrade while on ship uses obc (if any)

    2) 13+ day cruises are usually $25/day upgrade (unlimited basic) instead of the normal $30/day.

Ask the internet mgr when's the last day it gets cheaper.

I'm on Viva 11 day and the last day it got cheaper was day 4 so 7 days left.

Since Prima is a sister ship it might have the same 4 days, so 10days left for you.

    10 x $25 = 250 - $200 trade in = $50 upgrade ($5/day)

    but if it's a starlink enabled ship then the trade in for 300min is only $145 (instead of $200) thus $250 - 145 = $105 ($10.50/day)

  10. Just like Breakaway and Breakaway+ class.

    Sidenote:

I  say Escape should be downgraded to Breakaway class because like Breakaway/Getaway, Escape is too wide to cross the Panama canal locks.  (even the new bigger locks)

Anyway, I'm on the Viva and it's the 1st time I've heard of Prima+ class, even though Aqua was announced weeks ago

Glad it worked!  There are pros with flights by celebrity but they will charge a change fee after final payment even if the airline doesn't charge so that aspect is a con for some people.  As I'm sure you know, a change fee is an entirely different animal than a fully refundable ticket 🙂

Do you know if United has change fees for domestic flights? I might  need to change one way flight next month (not basic fare)

Yeah, that's when they come in handy when they have $XXX off specials.  Just curious, how do you get notified when there are offers?  I'm hoping the answer isn't that the offer is buried in one of the four daily emails Celebrity sends me (lol)

I just mock book a flight shortly after I book.

But I've stopped doing that  because it's been a waste of my time

Not in my experience. But I have not used FBC in the last few years because their

Prices have been equal to or greater than those found on airline sites.

I miss their $200 off specials if I book though them within 3weeks of booking cruise. Got my JetBlue flight for $1!

Haven't seen that post covid :(

That's the difference.  Sign up for NCL's Premium internet plan and you'll get VPN access on NCL as well.  It's listed right on the description... image.png.98dbddf22ad3b8cf7fab730ab32164a1.png

I think on Non-starlink ships I could connect to VPN with unlimited basic.

My VPN provider has like 8 different protocols to connect to it.

I'll find out when I'm on sky 10day next month and report back. (Maybe on my thread about trade in promo minutes for unlimited.)

  15. Another interesting note about ncl's Starlink:

I'm on unlimited basic and i can't connect to my VPN.

On celebrity, who also uses Starlink, i can connect to my vpn.
But on Celebrity, i'm on unlimited premium.
