  1. You got me curious so I checked my  phone specs.

Wifi 6 came out in 2019.

I bought my moto Android 12 phone in dec 2022 but still only has wifi 5 (ac).

But it only costs me $40 on sale. I guess only higher end phones come with wifi6?

  2. I was going to take my free Ambassador 7day balcony cruise on Poa next April, mainly because I can't get that free from CAS because no casino.

Now, I'm not so sure I want to do that.

This year I've been to Hilo, kona , and Honolulu on Celebrity.

    Maui was cancelled because fires.

Is just Maui worth it to use my 7day cruise benefit on an iffy ship?

On the Getaway, does anyone know what this means. 6,7,7?

    BURN THE FLOOR

    Deck 6,7,7

Btf also performs in the mdr @ 6pm twice a cruise.

    It's a different mini-show each time.

Ask the theater mgr during the behind the scenes tour for what days

I'm currently on the Viva (11day). It has Starlink, just like Breakaway/Getaway.

I just spoke to the internet mgr. Cheapest the unlimited upgrade gets is day 4 with 7 days left.

    7 x $30 is $210 - $100 for the promo 150min, So $110 or $15.71/day at that point.

7days left and unlimited upgrade for $110  just like the internet person said.

    Note:

On other ships  you get the upsell when you activate your promo minutes. I tried that but didn't get the popup.

When I logged off I got the upgrade pop-up.

That pop-up didn't appear the other times I logged off. (I was using my free casino 400min.)

It was only after I activated my promo 150 min that the upsell appeared.

This is what I said when mentioning the restrictions/requirements that the USCG puts on the crewing of the ship.  Not many people will commit to taking training and then sitting around waiting for a job to open, so when an opening happens, it takes time to get the new crew credentialed.  And, while the credentialing happens, the ship sails short staffed.

Who pays for the training and credentialing?

and why sit around since POA seems short staffed? POA cruises are almost always 7 days.

    so 6day wait at most?

    edit:

hm.. i guess they arent being paid while their creds are being processed?

how long does it take to get credentialed after taking the training?

The crew is almost exclusively US, so the kind of customer service you get at a US restaurant or store is what you'll get on POA, not what the international crew tend to give.  I say that with being a staunch advocate of US flag cruise ships, but we just don't have the service industry attitude in the US.

Ncl also had problems recently of keeping the ship fully staffed.

On a few cruises, I read they randomly cancelled reservations because of staff shortages.

Even with full refund and fcc, most of those pax were rightfully unhappy

This has been in the news for several days. The last time there was a big eruption in Iceland, it shutdown air travel all over Europe because of the ash cloud. Specific airports and routes were closed. And planes and crews were not in the right locations so it had ripple effects on other flights.

2yrs ago i debarked at Reykjavik while the volcano was spewing lava.

I was staying for a few days and planned to do a  volcano tour to watch the lava live. (Will be like 800' away according to the ad.)

I tried to book the tour 2 days after I debarked but was told it stopped spewing lava the day before. :(

I could still do it if I wanted but I declined

I got the Princess one as well. Did not see the NCL, Carnival, or Oceania one. But, we used the prior NCL one, so I'm wondering if they track usage...

i tried to add Princess offer but got this:

Sorry about that! It doesn't happen often, but offers are currently unavailable. Please try again later.

Looks like max # of has been given away?

Here is more: "Nature is the overriding design theme in the refreshed T2, with one of the star attractions being a 14-meter-high digital waterfall display. Surrounded by a vertical garden, 'The Wonderfall' is located in the departure hall and cascades over megalithic boulders."

    Yup it was awesome!

That's the 15min harbor light show at 8&9pm everyday.

The colors of the buildings behind the light show are sychonized with the show. :o

The funny shaped building on the lower left is the ArtScience museum.

    Note:

You must have a club room or suite to access the sky lounge (22nd floor).

Your room key allows you to press the 22 button in the elevator.

For me, I got the cheapest room and got a free upgrade to club room because of my tier level at Wyndham.

    Note 2:

You don't get the free food/drinks benefit at the sky lounge if you got it via an upgrade. :(

I have a question I hope you can answer.    I'm on Edge that will also be overnighting in Benoa.

A big question has popped up about the Customs Declaration that has to be filled out 3 days prior to arrival.    Some on our roll call have attempted to fill out and under arrival it only has drop down menus for Airports and the port is not an option.

Can you advise if you had to fill it out prior to arrival -   Currently Celebrity is telling us we need to fill it out but not how.

yes, had to fill it out but only 4 days or less before arrival.

then at customs at pier, show them the barcode. they scan it.

i filled it out on my laptop and took a screenshot with phone but couldnt find the pic because i've taken so many pics in those 4 days.

after 5min of holding up the line, the customs person at pier just waived me through. 😮 bali immigration came on board at Tahiti and checked passports/bali visa already.

so apparently the customs declarations form isnt that big of a deal if you're already been cleared by immigration.

I saw the Oceania one too, but never have received a NCL offer on my (Canadian) Amex. They never include us... 😢

yesterday added ncl but didnt see oceanea.

    today,i saw it:

Get 5 additional Membership  Rewards® pts for each dollar spent, up to 50k pts.

so basically 5% back, assuming you know how to maximize the benefit of amex pts, which i dont. 😞

also, not as good at ncl's 20% back

Personally I don't know of a battery powered one, but the one I have is powered by a USB plug. You could probably just run it off a battery you would normally use to charge a phone on the go (not wireless obviously) I haven't checked the current draw of the route so am unsure how long it would last... The router itself would fit in a pocket, about 2.5"x2.5"x1"

hm.. i played around with using my phone as a internet hotspot but when i turn on hotspot, wifi turns off.

Google says that's because hotspot and wifi uses the same antennae. you can only use one at a time.

but some expensive phones (ie: samsung, pixel) can hotspot while on wifi.

Looking around other settings on my phone, i can share internet via bluetooth while on wifi!

Got it to work with my laptop. it wasn't easy or intuitive.

It's easier to connect your laptop to wifi then hotspot your laptop. my laptop has a hotspot button and i can hotspot while on wifi.

but carrying your laptop around just as a hotspot is cumbersome.

so now to find another phone to test bluetooth hotspot from my main phone

    this is good!

    easy to hide.

the second rule of the "sharing internet with a travel router" club is that there is no router.

    well done.

    Hide?

    It's not like alcohol... lol.

pocket size for ease to carry.

i guess i'll resort to buying the OPs travel router and carrying a small battery back as well and hold them together with a rubber band
