  1. You can check for yourself using the technique we were just discussing!
  2. The joy of discovering the true meaning of "Some Assembly Required" when buying furniture 😄
  3. For those of you dealing with solo pricing issues, and especially those of you who have achieved a high status on X along with the newly provided status reciprocity with Silversea, you might want to investigate their offerings. They have set up a solo-specific list, available here: https://www.silversea.com/find-a-cruise.html?refinementList[promoCodes][0]=SINGLES_FARES It's certainly not all itineraries and all dates, but it does cover a fair swath of cruising experiences. There are presently 42 offerings.
  4. Ah, there it is again! Thanks! I got stuck on the "Let's link a cruise" where it wanted name and reservation number. The "Browse our ships" was just below the bottom of the screen, cut clean enough that there didn't appear to be reason to scroll!

  6. The air turbulence caused by a standard balcony configuration does increase fuel usage, but the aerodynamics of the overall superstructure in the face of wind loads is a much greater factor, and the hydrodynamic losses are larger yet. I don't think they're buying all that much in fuel savings. There has been some interesting study done on this (see https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0029801820307666 as an example, but requires an account to get to the fine detail) with regard to cruise ships in particular. The above study was performed for a big CCL Vista class ship.
  7. The projection that appears before each course is an animated version of how these little guys build that precise course. So if you have a pasta dish on the evening's menu, you'll see the little guys build that before it is served to you. I know for sure that there have been at least three different menus over time (I've seen them), and there may be a fourth. About the only way to be sure which is on for a given night is to visit the restaurant and check the menu. I have seen nothing that would indicate that there's any predictable rotation amongst the menus during any particular cruise. The quality of the animation, and hence the experience, is also variable. I don't know the actual production order, but are real differences between them, perhaps the earliest attempts and later productions? One last item - If you're going to do this, arrive a little early. The tables will be set with white plates. Before selecting a table, be sure that the video projected onto the plates from above (which is just a white circle) is stable. You'll know quickly by looking at the periphery of the plate. Getting a seat with zero jitter in the image provides a nicer experience.
  8. Resurrecting this zombie thread to add a note: Seems that under the current version of the app, the user is now only permitted to select from among a list of their own booked sailings rather than from a full list of all X ships in the water. Bummer.
  9. Resurrecting this zombie thread to advise that the current version of the app only allows you to select from among your own booked cruises, not every X ship in the water as it used to do. Rather than "Select a different sailing", which allowed selection (and very conveniently, the viewing of dining & activities) of any current X sailing, it's now "Select a different cruise" and only shows your own list of booked itineraries.
  10. If things are as they were on our last cruise in an RS (2022), those are often 1L bottles (not 750s), too! You should be contacted by the shoreside concierge prior to your departure to deal with this, among other things. You can negotiate, but I'd recommend you look at the lists of spirits offered on the 'classic' vs. 'premium' packages normally offered and choose whatever you like - probably from the 'premium' list, and see how you do. For those that don't drink much hard liquor, you can also request a couple of decent bottles of wine instead. That will require some additional negotiation. I had access to recent copies of the MDR and Luminae wine lists thanks to someone here at CC, and didn't press too hard toward the high end, but they were willing to supply a couple of 750s of Tignanello, for which I was most appreciative.
  11. I have the old fleet wide 'amenities' chart from late 2020 - don't know if they've updated it - that showed that only the Apex was getting them at that time for some reason. I'll attach it here. It was a real piece of history for anyone wondering how it looked then. Does anyone have a more current version? Guess we'll see what turns up on our next cruise in November. 1577641448_AMENITIESGRID8_12.2020-1.xlsx
  12. We did not receive PJs on any of our last three cruises in a RS, two on an M class (Dec 2021) and one on an S class (Nov 2022). We were told by the shoreside concierge that this (along with the monogramming) had ceased, but I do recall that this had something to do with ship class. I don't know if it's still being done on E class. There was also some discussion about the bathrobes, but they're big enough for people twice our size and would have taken most of a suitcase to bring home.
  13. It took Celebrity a couple of decades to finally realize what most of us had known for years -- the FV was the best value in terms of space and location available on a Celebrity ship. I remember that they would occasionally run up an "FV Guarantee". I never booked one for fear that I might get upgraded to a Sky Suite - assured to be less space, and not in as nice a location!
  14. Stealth is vastly overrated. I'd think making the run between 12~1pm would serve better to make the point! 🤪
  15. ... The bigger challenge will be getting them through the front half of the Ocean View buffet.
  16. Before reading this thread, just booked (late, I know) the November TA on Constellation. We used to love to cruise in those corner FV cabins, which have since been reclassified to Sunset Suites. My recollection of the balconies is that they were about 24 feet long. 1/3 total shade, 1/3 partial shade, 1/3 open sky. Wonderful. We booked one for 'our kids'. We booked a RS for ourselves, and those have a great deal of balcony space as well - something on the order of 10x20' if memory serves. We're talking a 16 night TA cruise, the majority of which will be enjoying those relaxing at-sea days that we look forward to on these itineraries. Falling asleep on a lounger while 'reading' (the same page, about six times) is an essential part of the experience. If there are no loungers on these balconies, and if none are forthcoming upon request, there will be an experiment performed to see how difficult it is to transport them, one at a time, from the pool deck to decks 6 and 7 in the aft elevator bank.
  17. Granted, our best day may have better than yours, but our LPC dinner included a 2-1/2" filet you could cut with a fork (paired up with a nice Tignanello), and a truly amazing pasta dish that won the 'voting' that took place at the end of the meal. That's not to say I'd make a habit of dining at LPC, but it certainly wouldn't be because of "mediocre" food experience on a previous visit.
  18. Back to the topic at hand: Has anyone personally seen one of the FV > Sunset Suite conversions yet? It appears that Constellation converted these during this last go around. Have not seen a decent set of photos yet, just some cropped ones on the X site that don't really show the 'back room' at all. The site that posts all of the cabin photos doesn't seem to have anything for these new Sunset Suite cabins, either, even on other Millennium Class ships. Booked one for 'the kids' and hoping I can show them a photo representation of their proposed digs. Can anyone point me in the right direction? As to overall condition - All of the public space and upper level suites got new soft goods and other features upgraded shortly before Constellation's post-COVID restart in December 2021. I was the first to walk the brand new carpet and sit my keister on our brand new couch in a RS. Other cabins were apparently not refitted at that time, but public space looked really good (new furniture, carpets, etc). Seems they already had the soft goods in question warehoused for the Revolution that was due right after COVID hit, and didn't happen, so they went ahead and installed what they had before the restart. From what little I've been able to see, certain cabins (e.g., the FV > Sunset Suite mentioned above, and possibly the old Concierge > Aqua Suite) will have had a complete overhaul recently as part of their suite reclassification, and therefore should also look quite good. Reports here say other cabins still may be lagging behind, so I'd definitely expect some wear and tear there.
  19. I've even had SS washed undershirts come back on hangers!
  20. For those of you with Chase Sapphire cards ... and an extension to Billc23's question: I note that their cap on trip cancellation is $10K per person, $20K per trip, for covered persons (I assume the two of us). That $20K would cover less than 2/3 of the least expensive SS cruise my wife and I have taken or are considering. If both of us pick up a Chase Sapphire card, does that increase the benefit for a trip, not person, to a total of $40K due to 'cross coverage'? Or are we still stuck at $10K per person regardless? It would seem the latter, such that there's no benefit from picking up separate cards for both of us.
  21. Which we often do, having usually arrived in a port city some days before departure! 😁 We gave them five days of laundry upon boarding in Lisbon last Fall. I'm looking at what is offered in the way of reciprocal benefits, and based upon the cabins we have been booking, I don't see that, apart from 'upgraded' champagne in the cabin, we're likely to see any difference as newly minted VS350+ members. That said, what's up with the 10% off future bookings for 250+? Does that apply to onboard bookings only? Will this be extended to the match program?
  22. Yes, cards are used for all brow, room and purchases aboard. No idea how Silversea is working with luggage forwarding companies - sorry - haven't ever used them since we are usually in the port city for some days ahead of departure. You can tag your own bags by printing the electronic version that comes in your e-ticket pdf file, and place them into widely available holders, or the porters on the pier will be glad to tag them for you on the spot. Edit: Trying to recall if they actually include the printable tags in the e-ticket these days. I'm not recalling one clearly now. Perhaps someone who has been on more recently will know. But of course, you can always put ship name, departure date, and cabin number on paper for yourself.
  23. Wow - 1 cruise with SS and we're already in the 350+ day club with just Celebrity status. Hard to imagine they'll provide a free 7 day cruise before or after our next one, though.
  24. The 15% option off current prices is not much of an offer for those that have had their cruises booked for a while. I'd be concerned that the 15% wouldn't cover the increase in prices that may well have occurred since the original booking! A fair deal would be a 19% discount to make up for the missing 4 days, applied against the original fare.
  25. Ah, understand now. So about $500 per year per person? Often, when researching the cost of travel insurance, people here in the cruise boards are particularly interested in cancellation insurance since that's such a huge part of the potential cost of any mishaps.
