  1. I haven't quite figured out the system, I do like how I can do many back to backs in a row. I had 48 days then next day was booked from another port for 30 in Europe.

It varies a lot some I get signature suites with like anywhere from 500-1250 free play and drink package.

Then the casino insiders offer gives me an O/V 650.00 free credit no drinks and some have same sailings as the way better offer. So I really must pay attention.

  2. My PCC is great Mr. Meyers. Never rushes and always does his best to answer my questions. Yesterday I told him i got upgraded for next weeks cruise but I was a little worried about the forward location. And within a minute he switch me mid-aft without a worry. Usually every call to him I learn a great tip or two about cruising HAL.

Thanks for all the responses, and the link to the solo cruiser board.  You have given me to the confidence to book something!

Another question, re: single supplement - If I book a casino offer of a free inside, do I still pay a single supplement?  The fine print is not clear on that.  I do plan on calling HAL directly later today, but just wondered what other's experience has been.

    Thank you!

All my bookings are casino comps and I just pay port fees and taxes for myself and I cruise solo. So works out awesome.

  5. My first cruise with them was I was 39. I'm a fan now. Good dining all around. I enjoy BB King's for music. And sometimes there's rock room for live heavier music. The clientele is older but not stuck up and I really like the fact of quieter for sleeping and no kids running around me.

    Definitely give it a try.

Certainly things vary by casino and cruiseline, but all I can comment on is our HAL experience.  My DW spends no more than $40/day in the casino.  Sometimes she wins, but most times she loses her budget.  Even with this limited budget, we have been getting casino RATEs on our cruises and this year got our first free cabin OFFER (normally Inside but sometimes Oceanview).  I think this might be due to the light occupancy HAL is experiencing right now, so no telling what the future will bring.

I do have to report than while she loses no more than $300 per 7 day cruise, the RATE deal alone saves us $1000 or more on our cruises, so for us it is a good deal.  Of course, the higher priced cabin you book, the more dollars you save, so your experience may vary......

That's great value. As I said in my first post I'm very happy with the HAL comps. Happy Your taking advantage of it. :0)

    Hi,

We will be arriving in Vancouver, BC the night prior to our cruise.  We will need a hotel for the night and transportation to the cruise terminal the next day.  Would we be better off staying close to the airport, then using a shuttle service to the cruise terminal?

Depends on season. I assume it's Alaska cruise season. From YVR I would suggest take a taxi to maybe west end area by Stanley park (or skytrain to save money if u don't have to much baggage or mobility issues), then that night u can have a walk around enjoy some food and next day your close to cruise terminal. Just a quick cab. As a local I see decent deals on travelzoo.

  8. The casino programs vary muchly between companies and land based is also different. And they usually change the point systems and benefits. U need to play for entertainment value and then do some research to maximize your comps and perks. For some people bankroll HAL might be good and some NCL or whatever may be better. If your a heavy player it's worth doing research and figuring out which line is best for you for perks and sailings but if you just play a little bit here and there, try and just enjoy.

On our Dec 2019 cruise the casino host told me that they discontinued the cash back for points system (I think you needed at least 1000 points previously).  However, they seem to be more liberal now with free cabin offers based on previous play.

Of course, no one knows what the new system post Covid is.

I agree I get tons and tons of comps and there seems to be no booking limit next year I have a 48 day and then fly to another port and have another 28 day from there. Mediterranean and Norway cruises. Plus many in North America.

  10. That's sorta what happened to me. I just got off a HAL ship after 12 days and jumped on the edge. Was on a bender had free drink package and popped in casino played little slots nothing hit. then played roulette another day and lost my shirt so never played much. I had an NCL cruise after and they have decent size casinos so saved some bankroll for that. BUT again lovely ship, I have veranda room and it was awesome.

  11. I'm sorry I can't say more but I was on it in Europe a few years ago. The ship is beautiful first of all. The casino was very very small so I didn't spend much time in it at all. limited tables. I played some slots and roulette  and then used the casino bar as i had comped drinks ship wide as well for that cruise. It's decor was great just very small.
