Although I posed this "hypothetical question" initially, but looks like it's getting closer to reality:
Virgin Voyages To Require COVID-19 Vaccines When Cruises Restart
Virgin is an adults-only cruise line that targets a demographic that likely is already vaccinated or at least eligible. Big difference between that and the Big 3 who relies heavily (and increasingly) on younger passengers including kids.

Seems as if the assumption here is that there are no ports open for ships sailing from a US homeport.
Is that true? I was under the impression several Caribbean islands were opening for tourist travel.
Does someone have a list handy?
Cozumel is ready to go. CocoCay would be open. I'm sure there are others.

I'm guessing the CDC conveniently never received that letter

May is still many months too late.

THe CDC was ready to relax travel restrictions when they released their school reopening framework, but for whatever reason opted not to.

I'm just now starting to get the now famous piecemeal refunds for my March cruise.
First one was $15!

I'm prepared to be underwhelmed.
My vote is a KSF promo.

Cruise ships are and will be the biggest source of spread in the world for Covid 19?
Based on what?

They should only require those 65+ to get vaccinated since that's the group most at risk.

Problem with sailing out of LA is you have to go to LA. Not exactly my favorite place to drive. Though I guess it'd be OK if you could fly into LGB for a reasonable price.

One limitation with cozumel is the lack of a pier/dock that is suitable for loading passengers and provisions onto a cruise ship.
And any kind of passenger terminal.
-
They're packed, but you're still operating with a lot less frequency on those routes than pre-covid, right?
-
Yes they do exist. But not at the level that would make it worth the effort for the USA Big 3.
-
No Caribbean (or Cozumel) island has the infrastructure to support cruising as a home port for more than 1 ship or so (like Barbados).
It definitely would be a stop gap or an act of desperation to change things up like that.-

So this exciting news doesn't have anything to do with a restart, but just announcing San Pedro as a home port?

Think about school settings. It's often 1 or 2 adults to 20 to 30 children with strict mask enforcement and distancing rules in place
That's not true in most schools that have been fully open since the summer. Distancing really isn't followed at all, just cohorting among classes. Elementary kids aren't wearing masks and teachers don't have to wear a mask when teaching from the front of the classroom.

They are catching up to date with ALL refunds and FCCs owed tomorrow!! 🤣
There's a better chance of cruises starting in June than that!

Problem with the kid vaccines is that kids don't need it. And in the past, the FDA has advised against kids getting vaccines for disease they aren't subject to.

It better be really good news that includes kids under 16 being able to participate without a vaccine.
I can't imagine that's the kind of news being hyped. In fact, it wouldn't surprise if this breaking news has nothing to do with when cruises are restarting.-

The announcement is that Fain's youtube video are now going to be 20 minutes of useless drivel instead of 10.

There are several dialysis at sea sponsored cruises every year.
Glad to hear that. Even more of a reason to get cruises going.

I celebrated the holidays with my family, including my now-92 yr old grandmother.
Spending time face to face with family and friends is much more important to them than avoiding covid by painful isolation.

Here is a list of accessible equipment you can request from Royal. There is no charge but you have to let them know a month ahead of time.

Dialysis supplies? Do people who need dialysis actually go cruising? That's devotion there.

Is a western Caribbean cruise warm enough in February?

It's most definitely warm enough and with no risk of tropical storms
