  1. Right, you have to actually go on the cruise if you want the VIFP points.
  2. You can use the paid bottle in your room if you want, just let your steward know that it is your free bottle. Or at least you could as of the last time I was on a cruise (May). If you get it from the bar though, it'll be cold. So wait until you're about to go outside to pick it up is my advice!
  3. You can buy everything you need to whiten teeth on Amazon. It's the same stuff the dentist uses.
  4. The problem is that's past the Ravenel bridge, which limits them to Spirit or Fantasy class. I really doubt Carnival is in the mood to operate yet another height-limited home port. I think the most likely announcement is Norfolk will become a home port to replace Charleston, but they've got their own challenges (namely, parking).
  5. Carnival has wanted a new terminal to be built in Charleston ever since the Fantasy was there. I would imagine the SC Port Authority just ran out of runway. The Charleston old money can afford to keep the issue locked up in courts until kingdom come. Carnival could turn Charleston into the next Galveston, but the city doesn't want it. At a certain point you have to figure they don't want to be where they're not welcome. And with all the development around the terminal lately, SC Ports can sell that land for a pretty penny. I sort of hope SC Ports will repurpose a section of their Columbus Terminal for cruises and continue homeport operations in Charleston, but I think if that was in the cards it would have been announced when this announcement was made.
  6. I see. Walgreens isn't doing drive-through rapid testing in your area? That's how I've done all my cruise testing to date, since CVS and my county ended their free drive-up testing.
  7. Can't you just do a rapid test to begin with and eliminate the worry?
  8. You can check in at the desk but they prefer you use the app.
  9. The "cancel for any reason" portion of Carnival's insurance is offered by Carnival themselves, not the insurance company Aon that underwrites the rest of the policy. "Cancel for any reason" is incidentally also partly why Carnival's insurance is so much more expensive than other travel insurance options. If you think you may end up needing to cancel, you should definitely buy Carnival's insurance.
  10. Someone posted on here the other day they've been waiting months and months for them to process their claim. So take that for what you will. In general I find travel insurance purchased directly through the cruise line/airline/resort/etc to be way too expensive for what it is.
  11. Yesterday you said boarding was quick and organized. Today you admit the port was a mess and it took 3.5 hours. Why should we listen to anything else you say about this cruise I guess is my question now.
  12. The feature of the app on Mardi Gras to set up an appointment at Guest Services isn't supported on Freedom, but you can make reservations for other restaurants, buy shore excursion tickets, etc. on the app still.
  13. Norfolk is a big city. The parking doesn't necessarily have to be directly adjacent to the cruise terminal, but it does need to be secure and have enough capacity to safely and efficiently handle thousands of guests on turnaround days.
  14. They could easily have a secured parking deck built in time for the closure of the Charleston port in 2024, and could homeport at least one Carnival vessel year-round if they wish.
  15. I hate to hear this - especially the rude crew. I know you were looking forward to this trip as I recall seeing your username in other posts here. I hope it turns around quickly for you.
  16. If you don't go to the deck or atrium parties, or go to any of the shows in the main lounge, etc., then I don't see why you'd care who the CD is or why you'd care why other people care. And the same goes for the comedy host in Punchliners. A good CD or fun squad member can bump those events up a few notches to say the least.
  17. It's why I still wear a regular old watch on every cruise I go on.
  18. I think a little white noise would go a long way in drowning out the noise unless the neighbors are really loud.
  19. that’s not what hold means.
  20. Just the food options on Lido will be open on embarkation day. No dining room.
  21. Down to zipping up a suitcase. Speaking from experience.
  22. I've been on deck 1 in the far aft - next to last room on the ship - and didn't feel bad vibration. YMMV. I'd rather be in the back on the bottom of the ship that than a connecting room personally. But each to their own!
  23. What we have here is a break down in communication. Ship time is not obligated to change when the ship crosses time zone boundaries. Ship time is at the discretion of the captain. Many times the captain opts to keep the ship on the home port's time even if the ports of call would be an hour ahead or behind. If you change your watch to local time and the ship stays on home port time, you may just see the ship sailing away from the pier. It's always a breathtaking sight, especially when you were supposed to be on the ship!
  24. Set your watch to ship's time and don't worry about it.
  25. I don't know, but they do - and they're the ones writing it off!
