  1. I tried to upgrade to a more expensive cabin. It was the price they posted on their website. They said it was for NEW bookings only! Quoted me a price more than twice the price they showed. I am still in my original cabin I have had for months. I think the upgrade fairy is gone. Or she lost my Email? 🙂 Ha Ha
  2. I heard there was a third slide above the dock below the mountain. Friday! I don't know how safe I feel tying up to that dock at all! I don't live far from where we had a devastating slide in Oso Washington The whole side of a mountain came down with no warning. Killng many people and destroying homes .
  3. I really do not like tendering. I wish we were going to Sitka instead 😞
  4. When we get to the Port of Seattle you basically hand them your luggage and take your carry-ons with you. But after you cruise your luggage is in a huge room with thousands of bags . You have to find your luggage, find a porter with a cart, and he will go with you to customs and out to the pick up. My son is picking us up. We live 1 hr North of Seattle .That is the Porter I want to tip. I think I will tip $10 for two bags unless he is with us for a long time and then I will tip him more 🙂 We are seniors and both have mobility problems. Not supposed to lift heavy things. I know my suitcase will be 50 pds. Cant wait. Only one week now!
  5. I am going on the Discovery Princess on Aug 14th. We packed umbrellas and rain ponchos. I always leave my purse at home and take a backpack for ports. Make sure if you are carrying something in port that it is waterproof as well. Rain hat or hood as well. And lets hope for no rain! Warm gloves for Glacier day.
  6. Years ago in Florida we tipped a porter who helped with our luggage at the port. We gave him $5. for two bags. As we were walking away he said "cheap". It has been a couple years since we cruised. Stopped after Covid hit. Seattle RT port. What would be a fair tip for two bags? After the cruise. taking it through the terminal to outside.
  7. We got an email from Princess last night. Our Aug 14th sailing on the Discovery Princess will still stop in Skagway and tender in.
  8. Thanks for the info! Have a great time in Skagway 🙂
  9. I saw on the news that the area where they had the rockslide by the dock in Skagway had a new slide yesterday, Wednesday Aug 3. Here is a video and the news story https://mustreadalaska.com/skagway-rock-slide-hits-cruise-ship-dock-again/
  10. We are on the Discovery Princess on Aug 14. No word yet what we will do? I am assuming we will go to Sitka. Frustrating because once they announce the change, we want to be able to book an excursion right away in Sitka before they are sold out. It is very helpful to go to YOUTUBE and watch the latest videos from passengers going there. It shows the cruise port being 20 minutes from town with complimentary shuttle and LONG lines to get on one. So we would rather take an excursion with transportation.
  11. I agree that Icy Straight Point is more like a created for tourist stop , whereas Sitka is more interesting. A real town. I have been to both a couple of times
  12. We will be on the Discovery Aug 14th . I wonder if we will go to Sitka as well?
  13. So sorry about your wife and son! Glad they weren't too bad.
  14. So glad you posted this .Princess should not be able to get away with treating passengers like this. I am sure you will choose another cruise line next time. No one would blame you. Sorry you had to go through this
  15. Thank you for taking the time to share with us 🙂
  16. I practically live in my jeans. Capris in the summer. Formal nights are a chance to dress up and wear jewelry! It is part of the experience. And I never get to see my husband in a suit except on cruises. I am looking forward to our cruise in August. I just mind my business and do what we enjoy. I don't care what others do. That is the cruise line to decide.
  17. We took advantage of this offer yesterday. Booked a Mexican Riviera cruise for Feb
  18. We chose the Crown because they go to Glacier Bay. Discovery does not. After all the information we have gotten since and hearing from people on the ship and their problems, we moved over to the Discovery one day after our initial date. I will be sad not to go to Glacier Bay. I have been there a few times and it was always my favorite thing about an Alaska cruise
  19. My hubby and I go back and forth from Princess to Celebrity. I find Celebrity food to be better. But some of the changes they have made to be more HIP. I didn't like. But still my favorites. RCCL, Holland, Norwegean and Carnival are other lines we have been on.
  20. What would bother me most is missing ports, coming into ports really late , plumbing issues. Toilets backing up and /or no hot water in the showers. What would be frustrating is when a cruise line expects more and more passengers to put up with this , week after week without doing something major to fix it. Example the Crown Princess. Shameful ! We were booked on it for Sept and changed to the Discovery .
  21. It isn't dark in Alaska at dinner time? We were up on deck at 11 pm and it was like it was dusk
  22. We jumped ship for our Aug sailing on the Crown to the Discovery Princess
  23. I was just checking and still not showing the deck plans for Discovery Princess
  24. After hearing how many issues Crown Princess is having, we changed over to the Discovery Princess from our August cruise. Leaving one day later. They were very nice and accommodating at Princess customer service.
