  1. Those Vikes captured my wife (blue) on the 2017 Homelands cruise.
  2. How about this for longer cruises? Dining crew, bartenders & room stewards each get to vote via secret ballot and brackets to select the most obnoxious passengers. On sequential ports the winning cabin is put ashore via a public walking of the plank. Downside: If one cabin wins the trifecta, it's not as much entertainment.
  3. Add us to those who find Viking TV frustrating & unwatchable because of low volume. CC sorely needed. Admittedly, it was only our last 2 cruises out of many that we attempted to watch TV.
  4. My first world seat problem. I'm a Delta member and went on line to select our 2 seats for part of our return leg. Strangely, (I'll explain late,r KLM involved) Delter wanted $19 each for these seats in Economy for that leg even though i'm flying Delta Premium Economy. I selected the 2 exit row seats and paid. Bill for $38 came through on credit card. Couple days later I go back on Delter website and WTH? I only have one assigned seat. Can't fix online. Turns out KLM is involved. I'm a member there too but KLM won't let me add my trip on their website as they do not recognize the AIRLINE (not the Viking) booking code. I go thru phone wait hell. The DL phone Rep (nice person) taped on keys for 15 minutes finally saying we were not yet paid ticketed despite Viking having my $30,000 so I can do nothing as yet paying $38 for 2 seat assignments and only getting one. Catch 22. I know. Spending 30K for cruise and special airfares and here I am obsessing over $38 and no valid seat assignments.
  5. Cetina River Cruise & Split Walking Tour The river cruise is decent fun, not great but good. Ends at a restaurant featuring music & snacks then a bus ride back to Split. The Split walking tour is quite good with an interesting walk through Diocletian's Palace. Worth taking. You can take it alone as the included tour. Having been there if you have all day in port consider taking a local boat ride on your own to interesting places. Looking into this.
  6. I think that Viking et. al. need to realize that Venice as a mid-cruise port, especially for multiple days, is no longer a viable idea due to access problems. Cruises could start or end there (Chioggia) with pre and post cruise extensions offered but the prospect of long hauls to/from docks to/from Venice multiple days does not excite this customer
  7. What will be their source(s) of hydrogen? Nukes electricity? Iceland's geothermal electricity? Solar electricity? Needs to be available worldwide at many ports for the fleet to sail. A major problem with rockets using hydrogen (best rocket fuel) and why it's not used that much any more is hydrogen embrittlement. It tends to destroy its metal containers over time.
  8. Going to be back on the Sky (sailed on Sky previously) in September. Please fill out all forms with constructive criticism in detail. We thank you for helping make needed improvements.
  9. Does this restriction apply to wearing my team's football helmet at the dinner table as well? Asking for a friend.
  10. TIP: Do NOT pre-pay gratuities as unused OBC can be used for the fee on your bill. See previous posts.
  11. Suggest adding a $1M violent death rider to your life insurance pre cruise in case you're murdered on Shetland.
  12. Guess this pretty much kills any thoughts of bringing along my Tesla on a cruise.
  13. Our August transatlantic In the Wake of the Vikings cruise in 2022 required no reservations and no time limits unlike previously. Spa is great. Enjoy!
  14. VO (and VR) should link up to SpaceX's Starlink service and provide higher bandwidth to guests.
  15. Cavtat thankfully has not changed. Wonderful peaceful place.
  16. More to see in Dubrovnik. Cavtat is small but gorgeous. Nice easy oceanside walk out of Cavtat town. Do both. AM & PM. Starts with Cavtat photos, then Dubrovnik.
  17. Agree with the preceding. I check that site and long the info day by day for my cruises.
  18. So glad our Viking Transatlantic stop in Greenland with its RIB excursion to view & touch icebergs was on a calm, clear 50 degree day. This informative thread has helped me decide that price aside, Antarctica is not for me at this age, despite being agile.
  19. Here is Viking's email... "Going forward, to support Venice in their goal of preserving the lagoon’s environment, all affected 2023 Viking voyages on your itinerary will now dock in Chioggia (Venice) instead of central Venice. Chioggia is approximately a 1½ hour drive south of the Venetian Lagoon"
  20. No easy quick access to bathrooms after copious coffee at World Cafe breakfast.
  21. Rome2Rio & google maps has it as a ~50 minute drive to/from Venice, not 90 minutes driving time FWIW
  22. I wish we could get a heads up soon on excursion choices from Chioggia.
  23. Iceberg tour. Captain broke off pieces & handed them around. One of several different icebergs visited. We had perfect 55 degreeF weather with blue skies and calm waters. Not much to see in town but interesting to walk thru.
  24. We were on this year's Wake of the Viking's tour with Viking on this very cruise. Recommend the In Search of Icebergs tour in Nanortalik Greenland. They provide you with a coverall suit and take you up close & personal to the icebergs.
  25. Definitely a chair hog. What you are doing knowingly is preventing someone else from using that chair while you are not using it and are away eating whatever meal. Why do you do this? Because you are concerned that that chair will not be available after your breakfast. In other words someone will be using it. Why is it yours?
