  1. Our house sitters end up with Rocco, Elmer, and Coal sleeping with them. After they leave the pets keep looking down the hall for them.
  2. We have always closed the guest bedrooms off. It helps keep them clean. My sewing room is closed for their safety and my sanity.
  3. I block it in the guest bedroom which is a no cat zone. For some reason none of the cats bother my yarn while I am knitting. My craft room is also a no cat room unless I am in there.
  4. The wedding shawl is being blocked. Check one thing off my list. I will post a glamour shot when it is dry. It has silver lined clear beads that don't show up in the picture but make the shawl sparkle.
  5. That stinks. The soggy dollar is fun. We were there on an excursion from St. John. We went to the Baths first and then the soggy dollar. I hope you can find a charter to get you there.
  6. Champagne Lobster Roll is the first one. It has been my go to at Izumi all along. Yummy. I think the other roll is the Lobster Tempura Roll or something like that. It was really good too. For dessert I got the Sesame balls with red bean paste. I really like them but they are not for everyone. Izumi is my favorite specialty restaurant on the ships.
  7. What is amazing is I had no hope of that excursion being that awesome. We were about to get on the bus back to the ship at Bear Country in Ketchikan. We had not seen any bears. The guides came running up and said to head to the boardwalk. The mom and baby came down to the creek and started walking along it. Mom jumped into a pool in front of us, pulled out a huge salmon and took it and her baby back to the woods right under us. Best excursion ever!
  8. Sorry. I can see both sides. We have a wren who builds a nest and raises her babies above our back door each year. We would never think of stopping her. We have also had squirrels try to get into our attic and had to repair the damage. We then cut all the trees back so they can't get on the roof anymore.
  9. Dad did the deed and split. Mom is all on her own. Squirrels generally build 2 nests. That way they have a backup to move the babies to if needed. Doesn't always workout which is why our baby board is full. Discouraging her now before the babies are born will just encourage her to build in a more appropriate place.
  10. I understand you definitely don't want them in the attic. As a last resort is there a way to block the area with some metal mesh? Squirrels can be pests and chew into things.
  11. I finished my shift at 6. Volunteers are supposed to work 4 hours. I was there 9. We got more squirrels in and an itty bitty raccoon. The lady who would normally foster the smallest ones is away for 3 months which doesn't help. It also doesn't help that our current crop of interns make me wonder about the future of mankind. Sigh. Yes there is a second squirrel season here but not a second opossum season thankfully.
  12. You might try some Irish spring soap in that location. There is also a spray at tractor supply that will discourage them. It.is called "repels all". There is a granular one and a spray.
  13. You win. Tooth problems are awful coupled with new dentist is extra awful. Hoping your new dentist is the best one you have ever had.
  14. Ugh I am not looking forward to today. It will be an almost double shift at the refuge. Second baby squirrel season is in full force. The baby board is full with most of them needing feeding every 2 hours. Our interns leave a lot to be desired and most of the long term volunteers who have a good work ethic are not in town for various reasons. Sigh.
  15. The first article mentions that a risk to public health is unclear. The second article is just one of those click bait articles. It might be healthier to avoid these types of articles and consult with your own physician if you have any concerns about travel and health. Now that all the protocols have been lifted we are back to travel as usual.
  16. Elmer is diabetic. He has been on insulin now for 3 years. It took a few months to get the right dosage. He gets 6 units twice a day. He would not eat the special food so he eats the regular cat food. The vet is happy with his weight (he lost a lot of weight before he was diagnosed) and his spot glucose readings. He doesn't mind the shots. I give them between his shoulder blades. I use 0.5ml, 8mm syringes and he doesn't seem to notice. Always make sure it is given on a full stomach. I have also had a dog with diabetes who lived a long time.
