  1. Playlist Productions are nothing new. One improvement was that expensive sets no longer had to be built. In the past, shows might live on a ship for years. And at least you don't have to make reservations like some cruise lines. On the Excel ships they are no longer the primary entertainment, but an alternative. But to be fair, some Playlist shows are excellent - for example, Celestial Strings, and the main lounge is shared with variety entertainment. As CC is at best a small percentage of cruisers, and complainers are much more vocal than satisfied cruisers, I wouldn't read too much into CCs influence on Carnival decisions. Carnival knows they can't please everyone, but they do have something for everyone.
  2. People can say much the same about every cruise line. The good old days were better. You can't live in the past - or afford to.
  3. To double down, some cruisers seriously overvalue themselves. Nobody is irreplaceable. Still more people who have never been on a cruise, than have.
  4. Put a comedian in a half empty venue and it will impact their performance. They are best in an intimate venue. Neither one directly generates revenue for Carnival.
  5. Free cruises are easy to throttle with nothing set in stone, but Carnival isn't the only one playing that game.
  6. Like smokers, gamblers are a vocal minority. Most Carnival cruisers aren't on casino rates. Clearly Carnival is satisfied with the number of repeat cruisers or they would change the marketing/loyalty program. Repeat business doesn't grow the business and discount cabins don't reduce debt. Attracting new cruisers will grow the business with customers who actually spend money on a cruise
  7. It's really pretty simple - Carnival's business model doesn't depend on bribing repeat business. Carnival wants customers who like the brand. Although they have corrupted that with the casino offers.
  8. Princess, and older cruise line, tops out at 150. Their solution is the only possible sustainable one.
  9. Most if not all Carnival ships are pledged as collateral. If they go bankrupt, they have few, if any ships to restart.
  10. Because they do not share the MDR menus, and anyone can eat there even if they don't have YTD, they are more of alternative dining rooms. While most items are included, there are a few extra charge choices.
  11. No worries. Prepaid reservations are needed or you don't go up the steps. There is no line (currently). The Skyride is free.
  12. I had booked Cucina hoping it morphs into this place - to be cancelled if it doesn't. 🙂 This was on the earlier press release. New Specialty Italian Restaurant – In addition to the Italian dishes offered in the main dining rooms, an all-new dining concept is being created and more details will be shared soon. This looks like it takes the place where Blue Iguana would go, if the ship had one. So not a sit down restaurant. Tomodoro – Mexitalian fusion creations feature ingredients such as Italian meatballs and Sicilian chicken alongside traditional Mexican tacos and burritos, for breakfast and lunch.
  13. I don't see them on the deck plan, but I see them available to book. Place holders perhaps or typical IT failure? Hmmmm. and go!
  14. They do look too uniform to the pastries on other cruise lines. Carnival has some ginormous mixers in the galley, but I think a lot of dough is brought onboard and then baked.
  15. Dram has a non-smoking casino annex!!!
  16. Carnival can change the entire menu if items are unavailable. As a business, Carnival sets a food budget per day per passenger. When they go over budget, eventually something gives. They could also include changing suppliers and importing more. I'm not surprised. The Celebration cruise was the Transatlantic and I imagine a number of products were sourced differently. The Ecstasy was the final revenue cruise for the ship. Both had excellent food.
  17. I don't like to conceal the taste of the burger and bun. Otherwise why not just have a condiment sandwich?
