  1. It is bad, but so far, has not stalled on an island which would be worse. Cruise lines are mostly wait and see. They don't want to make changes prematurely only to have the hurricane change direction and force them to change again.
  2. Cancelling is certainly an option. There could be a penalty (or not). Alternate ports might not be available and other cruise ships/lines will be looking for as well. I think all cruise contracts state the itinerary is not guaranteed and neither is compensation for missed ports.
  3. Of course hurricanes have an impact, but oil has been trending up for the past month - before there was a hurricane. Analysts can also have an impact whether they are right or wrong. Just saying...
  4. Cruise ships can still drop off needed relief supplies. We didn't mind not being allowed off of the ship to know we were helping in some small way. Other times, when piers were destroyed but there was enough recovery, we would tender in. We couldn't wait to spend money.
  5. I don't read cruise boards to learn what day traders do. Or any board. Don't 95% of day traders lose money? I don't see a Middle East or a Ukraine solution this year. Oil is always in play. Not just for cruise ships, hurricanes can also impact oil production.
  6. Oil is over 83, the Middle East is still a mess, and Russia is still in Ukraine. There are record breaking temperatures around the globe. Obviously the hurricane is a concern, but then the season was predicted to be above normal. Shouldn't be a shocker there. The Icon fire was not predicted. Most people can get the same or better results than analysts by throwing darts, but if you want to believe analysts, some are expecting oil to go above $90 this year.
  7. Other cruise lines are also having issues getting the Price is Right.
  8. Oil is up, cruise lines down. Imagine that.
  9. Royal is adding more to their debt with more expensive ginormous ships. A hiccup in cruising demand would sink Royal faster. CCL keeps more cash on hand.
  10. Can''t imagine what it might look like if Carnival still had the fruit punch.
  11. This may not be related, but perhaps something similar? https://www.express.co.uk/travel/articles/1915899/travel-holidays-provider-goes-bust
  12. The ship is 3+ years old. No telling how many people have been on the sofa. Vinyl would not be a bad idea.
  13. If port related, yes. Princess doesn't operate excursions, so whoever they contracted with has canceled for whatever reason. I doubt Princess would have offered excursions without having a contract in place. Viator seems to have some shore excursions available to Paris, but at least one isn't - the one with a Seine River cruise. I agree that the $30 is unlikely to be related to this issue.
  14. and PIN if cancelling over the phone, which was not what allegedly happened. Someone allegedly created a duplicate account, which takes a first and last name, date of birth, phone number and more. If this happened at all, it was identity theft, as Carnival has said. Meanwhile, while the grifter hasn't posted anything else that has been picked up, so either she shut up of someone shut her up. But the virus (false rumor) carries on.
  15. I was on Regal twice last year and don't remember anything negative about the ship. I might be more concerned about the port intensive itinerary, but since your Mom is the one that picked it, no worries. The ship is not the destination.
