  1. my point was that things beyond the company's control can happen to senior staff as well eg illness
  2. they also say they will be docking at, for example, Athens on June1. But stuff happens and it's not false advertising if the docking does not occur. Or would you prefer it if they said "perhaps docking at Athens on june1"
  3. to me, it's not the money if there is adequate compensation, which I am sure there will be. it is the hassle and time spent trying to change arrangements when supposedly relaxing on vacation
  4. what happens if you don't check your emails on vacation?
  5. keep in mind, and this is obviously no excuse, that the Captain may not be employed by Regent. The captain and "boating" crew may be supplied by the ship's owner when the ship is leased and this crew is very different from the "hotel" crew who is employed by Regent
  6. we are obviously quite naive spa users
  7. and another thing was the spa. I did not use it but my DW did and she and another couple independently said the same thing - there was constant pressure to upsell/add-on their treatments to more expensive options to the extent that it was not relaxing.....
  8. One of the specifics - I love herrings/salmon for breakfast (protein/fat of the gods!) and at the beginning of the cruise the quality was great but by the end of two weeks, for example, the creamed herring was inedible - the sauce was runny and seemed to be separated... Again, just my opinion
  9. Do not think so but maybe you can remind me more details eg rough date
  10. I had one of the worst dishes ever on a cruise at Indochine - so-called beef short rib something that was so tough, and sliced thin like cheap meat and not slow cooked at all like I would think should be. We did complain to the chef at the time
  11. It's a personal opinion (and my DW disagrees with this as well) and I would expect no-one to make a decision based on my opinion alone. Overall,I had a great time and would certainly travel on Silversea again, although nothing planned at this point
  12. still loved the cruise so you will have a great time!
  13. agree - 526 was a great room. Very easy to pop out a stock up on cocktails to drink on the balcony... Only very occasionally heard some music which was not disturbing to us at all
  14. Yes, very personal. My DW was happier. Breakfasts were the same, every day, quite institutionalised as were lunches. In evenings, we ate at La Terraza (quite limited menu - bored by the end of the cruise), Indochine (terrible meals- - we did complain), Note (boring after 2 nights there), Atlantide, food was not great in my opnion, veggies miserable and cold. The grill was my favorite but still getting bored after 2 weeks. We ate with someone who cooked their own food (we never do) and they brought all the meals together and we were well finished when he started eating - just something to be aware of...
  15. Had a great trip Auckland to Sydney, finishing today. Fist time on Silversea. Ship is great, suites great (526), butler good. Dress code was flexible enough not to worry about - I dressed neatly and seemed to fit in, no matter what the dining venue versus code was. Did not use ships tours as did own activities. Feel the food was quite weak relative to the price and previous cruises on Oceania and Regent and inconsistent and after 2 weeks was struggling to find something to order off menu. Would travel with Silversea again for the right itinerary.
  16. Just off the Muse, Auckland to Sydney and could find little evidence of any enforcement in any restaurant. I had studied up on the grid of dress code versus restaurant but was so relaxed on holiday, that I was not bothered to work out the difference between casual and informal and which restaurants required which. Just dressed neatly, with a jacket on some nights when I felt like it and it worked fine for me. Wore a tie one night with a suit for formal in Atlantide and did not bother for second nite and no-one said anything. One night a friend was asked to put long pants on (I did warn him) and another nite I believe someone was given a coat to put on the back of their chair in Atlantide (was not asked to wear it!)
  17. Generally, as someone outside the US, I would say exactly the opposite!
  18. maybe the cruise director is an AI Bot run by chat GPT?
  19. BTW did you book port to port and were you given Virtuoso credit (if you may have told me before, apologies)
  20. This seriously makes no sense at all - is this a direct copy?
  21. does this really happen? What is the point of wearing a jacket to walk maybe 25 yards?
  22. On the Virtuoso website - who knows where to find T&C????
  23. also the wording is quite interesting" "we have been advised by Virtuoso that it will not provide the on board credit as Silversea will not honour the credit on Port to Port discounted fares." Surely Virtuoso can still provide the $200 directly to the client
  24. i think in Australia we pay the cruise-line (even though maybe via the travel agent). Would have no idea where/which terms and conditions to look at. Interested if anyone else gets denied virtuoso credit if booking port to port?
