  1. If you wave your Medallion to a slot machine, you decide how much money you want on that machine.  If you do that and still have money on that machine and want to quit,  can you print out a payslip or does it go back on the Medallion? Have never used the Medallion and would rather not take cash. Thanks!

It is NOT a HOHO--you will be going to some fairly remote areas & I saw no other buses on the entire tour.

We did not stop at Skara Brae but we did stop at Ring of Brodgar & had time to walk around & take pics. I have not other pics from that tour but we saw a lot of the area & the  driver gave us lots of info on the area. We then wandered Kirkwall--a lovely little seaside town.

Did you have a difficult time getting tickets that morning?

Probably better to jump on a ho-ho as soon as you've checked into your hotel.  You can then relax on the bus getting an over-view for about 2 1/2 hrs (or longer if you doze off 😏)

Different ho-ho operators have different add-ons, but all have the same main tourist route. The only time you'll have to get off is if you want to see Buckingham Palace - buses aren't allowed past the front so you have to walk around the corner from the bus stop & then catch the next ho-ho..

Use a ho-ho operator that sells 24-hour tickets (rather than "day" tickets), you can complete or partially repeat the route next morning. But don't bother with 48-hour tickets - ho-hos are great for the overview and commentary but ridiculously slow for transportation for inside visits to the sights. The Tube (London's metro) is waaaay quicker

Thanks John Bull. I read your posts and value your information. It is our first time to London and want to cram as much as possible in 3 days!!

  4. Hi,

We will be arriving in London on a Tuesday morning before our cruise on Friday. Planning a short rest at our hotel before we start out Tuesday afternoon to beginning looking around the city.  If we start out on the Double Decker Bus and stay on it, what will the traffic be like starting at 3pm? I thought this would give us an overview of the city.  Looking for opinions and ideas for anything to organize our time before the cruise.

    Thanks, Cindy

Did this in May & it was a terrific tour.

Wanting to take friends & DH in April.

Whatsinport.com no longer lists the T11 specifically.

Here is the link to Stagecoach's routes: file:///Users/kristinbunde/Downloads/All%20Bus%20Routes.pdf

Can anyone help me--we are there Sunday April 28.

Will we be able to do a similar tour?

If so, can you tell my which bus/route to take?

    Thanks!

When you did the tour, did you go to the Visitor Center to get the bus? Did you buy your ticket on the bus? No reservations needed?

    Thanks!!

Wife and I did the cave tubing with Butt's Up but not the zip line. Big John, the tour guide and another younger guy, met us at the cruise port exit and escorted us to a waiting bus. The bus ride through the country took about 45 minutes. There was about a 30 minute hike to get to the put in point where we had to cross a stream/streams twice so hard sneakers, crocks, or water shoes with a harder sole are best (not flip flops or water socks/shoes). We didn't have to carry our tubes on the hike, which was nice. They were waiting for us at the river, along with life vests (not that you really need them). They provided a place to change with rest rooms and lunch afterwards. They took great care of us and provided a fun and wonderful experience. They watch the time and make sure you get back on time to catch a tender. We would recommend them.

Think we might book this. Few questions. How long did the entire tour last? Where did you put your belongings while you were on the tour?  Thanks

There are usually taxis at the pier in South Queensferry, but (especially if you want to stay for any time) the cost will quite possibly be much higher than booking a taxi from St Andrews to come and pick you up and return you to South Queensferry at the end of your visit.  You could also mix and match Uber to get to St Andrews and a St Andrews taxi to return (you won't normally get an Uber in St Andrews).

The public transport alternative is by train to Leuchars.  The station is a short (but steep) uphill walk from the pier and a very simple (normally same platform) change of train.  When you arrive in Leuchars, you can catch a local bus or taxi for the 5 miles to St Andrews.  Here's a typical route on Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/AjHuyabrpHhNgvzJ9

Thanks so much for your help. Reserved St. Andrews Taxi and they were very helpful!

highly rated on Google review, which is my go to.  They have an elevator, which is a real plus in older building.  I like serviced apartments for longer stays.  This is good to keep in mind for the future, thank you.   Great location to a busy neighborhood with tons of options.  Stroll through Borough  Market then go in to Southwark Cathedral for evensong and perhaps see Hodge the Cat.  Plus you are not far from the National Theatre where there is usually something worth checking out.  COnvenient also to the south bank river walk, which makes for a fantastic evening stroll.  Doing so on a rising full moon, doesnt get much better

    Thanks so much!!

I also don't know the Marlin but it is in a great location. I've stayed in that area on three occasions, while doing research at the War Museum.

By the by, Google says it's "serviced apartments" rather than a hotel.

They have both but thanks for the information!

I don't know the hotel, but the location is very good.

Five minute walk to the Imperial War Museum.

Ten minutes walk to the nearest ho-on bus stop.

A ten-minute walk to Waterloo station (trains to Southampton) and Waterloo East (for Dover).

The River Thames and Westminster Bridge less than ten minutes (London Eye and river cruises, and the other side of the bridge Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Churchill's War Rooms and the multiple sights up Whitehall to Trafalgar Square).

And for more-distant sights a tube (London's exceptionally extensive metro system) station across the road from the hotel

    JB 🙂

Thank you so much John. Planning is a little overwhelming!!
