  1. The only gaurantee that some thing would not happen is to not have a balcony. I know alot of people book balconies with liitle ones. But I never would. You never know what can happen while you are asleep. I know someone that had a three year old at home. When they woke up to the sound of the babyproofed locked front door open. When they went down stairs to investigate the three year old was walking down the middle of the street. So just imagine what could happen with a balcony.

  2. It really depends on what you want done. You can find sales on the cruise planner every so often. On the cruise planer you will typically find items that are 1 long treatment. On board the sales are often for multiple short treatments. I do not know if this is accurate. But i was talking to a crown and anchor rep recently and they told me that when i reach diamnod I will recieve 50% of spa treatments. So you may want to look into that.

  3. I did a switch from Oasis to Allure recently via a TA. I got the same story about them keeping the taxes/port fees that were higher from the original cruise. I politely told the TA that I was sorry and I know it’s not their fault (acknowledging it’s a stupid RCI policy, to which the TA agreed) but I wanted to cancel and rebook because of that.

The TA put me back on hold for a few minutes while they talked to RCI again, and RCI magically found a way to fix (lower) the taxes and port fees without needing to cancel and rebook. [emoji849]

So they can do it, it’s simply a question of which RCI agent you (or the TA) gets and their willingness.

Nice. When I talked to the royal rep and supervisor neither would do it. But the more I read these boards it seems like the best policy is to just call back and talk to someone else. Eventually a rep will solve the issue.

  4. Stopped by the NextCruise office on Oasis to inquire about a 2019 Harmony sailing as the small $100pp down payment being advertised was attractive. Quote given came with $200 OBC. Penalty to change cruise date was $200 ($100pp) thus making the OBC a total wash. Fair enough, policy clearly stated, but a lot can happen in two years and I'd expect a little bit more of an incentive to book that far out. All of that aside, when comparing the "out the door" final price vs what was offered on the RC website, I'd be paying MORE money by booking on-board.

Just wanted to share this experience as I actually had to wait in a line to talk to these people. Perhaps others have found it advantageous to book on-board, but that was not the case for me.

I could be wrong but if I remember correctly you can keep your next cruise on board credit even when you get a price adjustments. I have booked a couple of nonrefundable cruises for 2019. And I have gotten price adjustments on both. So if I had even more on board credit I would love it. While I would book on board I will not pass up a good price to wait to book on board.

  5. That maybe fine for you, as a retiree I don't buy green bananas, let alone book a cruise a year in advance.

My parents are the oppisite. They are always saying well now I will have to live long enough to... That maybe part of the reason I plan vacations so far out for them.

  6. It actually depends on the ship and sail date. I have found having 4 people in 1 room can be signicantly cheaper on some sailings. And on other sailing it is cheaper having 2 in 2. Or anywhere in between.

Keep in mind pricing on 3rd and 4th guest are ussaully cheaper before any discounts. And if you have kids you can ussaully find kids sale free. Which means if they were in a second room you would pay almost double.

As for why. Some people just consider a room a place to sleep. Unless you plan on spending a lot of time in your room it does not matter.

Also are you outside the us? Because the that is not the sale we are currently having here.

  7. the last few times i have cruised we have had 2 cars of people. My dad parks at the port for free. So he would take all the luggage in his vehicle. And I would park offsite. With parking off site I would get to skip the line because we had no luggage. So it was a pretty easy process. As a matter of fact with off site parking I always beat the other car to walking into the terminal.

However on my upcoming cruise It will just be me and 3 kids. So I will have the luggage. However all the kids are old enough to carry luggage. The price of parking at port canaveral is also now $10/11. So it would only be around $30 savings to park off site. I hate to waste a single penny. But I am worried it may be too much hassle. Thoughts? Or any known discounts? Tia.

  8. kids sail free with two paying people per stateroom. So 3 kids can sail free. However the kids will still have to pay the taxes and fee. You will probably save hundreds with kids sail free. I know I have in the past. I have seen many sales with royal and kids sail free is the best for families. Also kids need to be 12 or under to qualify.

  9. Have not been on oasis yet. However my father who is in a wheelchair has cruised on ships a few years older. We have found it to be very accessible. The only two times we had problems were when dinning. These were on freedom class ships so it may not be set up the same but just incase.

    1) issue was where they placed our table for dinner. Many would be jealous becuase we were given window seats. The problem was we could not get to the table without taking a step up. After trying to explain thr problem several times we were given a permanent table in the my time dinning. Of course that meant that nightly were had to pass guests waiting for a table that thought we were getting prefferential treatment because of the chair. (We heard guests say that as we passed) Advice check your table the 1st afternoon. If it is not accessible they can move it.

    2) similar issue went the character meal and the characters were a step up. The employee that was passing out tickets asked my parents if they wanted to go up. My parent responded that they could not get up there. The ticketing employee said okay and left. Later my parents ended up talking to someone else to arrange the pictures.

Despite those 2 minor issues my dad has said that he has found the guests and employees better than disney cruise for wheelchair users.

Like you we find it a bit frustrating how far in advanced we have to book these cruises. My parents are going on oasis next december and it is already sold out for wheelchair rooms except for a suite.
