  1. My husband, daughter and I are booked in an ocean view cabin on Splendor for December. Today I received a call offering us a balcony suite on Deck 7 for an additional $560 total.

I turned it down because we are happy with our location, and don't need the extra perks. But I'm just curious....was this a good deal? I've never priced suites before, so I don't know what the going rate is. We paid around $1400 for our current cabin, so that would make our price for the suite $2000 for 3 people on a 6 day cruise to Belize, Roatan and Coz.

Was the upgrade to an Ocean suite or grand suite?

  2. This is why, with or without locks, you should NEVER put anything of value in your checked luggage. I can't stop someone from stealing my socks or underwear, but at least they won't get my iPod or camera. because I keep my valuables with me in my carry on bag. ;)

Those are very interesting videos. I would never put anything of value in my checked luggage, such as electronics or jewelry, but our clothing is also expensive and we can't put all that in our carryons.

  3. The rooms are all the same. So other than view and room location, the room and amenities you get will not be down graded to reflect the price you paid.

Consider yourself lucky that maybe someone checked inventory for your date and noticed a few too many vacancies.

Did you book it with Hilton? If so, you can check vacancies the day before and request a specific room.

    I booked with travelocity.

  4. I have been watching the rates for the Embassy Suites in Fort Lauderdale Since July. We will be traveling in April. I have watched the rates go from $327 a night, all the way down to $222. Of course I booked it when it was down to $222. Now, it's back up to $327. I'm just wondering why the rates change this drastically from day to day? Will the room I get by paying only $222, reflect the price I paid?

  5. Forgot to mention you can also get parking for your trip at the local hotels with an overnight stay. We stayed once at the Hilton Garden Inn the night before an early departure (we live about 2-3 hours from JFK), left the car, and took the hotel shuttle to the airport (and a quick, cheap cab ride back upon return, because we didn't want to wait for the shuttle). The parking was in the same ballpark as the long-term lot; I actually don't remember which is normally cheaper because we got a discount for having Hilton status.

We also live that far from JFK and I suggested to my husband that we get a hotel near the airport the night before a flight but he said he would never stay at a hotel in that area. I would be fine with it, it makes a lot more sense to stay over the night before and reduce the stress from the drive the day of.

My husband has no problem driving from Connecticut to Fort Lauderdale but I think that's just such a long drive.

Ah. OK. Here's another thing (which I'm sure you have already done, but...):

Have you priced out the difference between doing two one-way rentals vs the round-trip rental with parking fees?

Yes, we would have rent a car one way and would not have to pay parking. Now, we are thinking of just driving and hope the long term parking is safe. Thank you for all your help!

  7. Is a train an option? I know the NE Corridor is well-served. You could train it into NYC and then do a car from there... Just thinking of options.[/QU

Thanks slidergirl but we are thinking of renting a car for the drive to JFK.

  8. What about Uber or a car service?

Anyway, here's the link to the JFK parking lots and pricing:

Thanks slidergirl! I have looked at the parking before but we are not sure how safe it is, so I wanted opinions from other people. We are coming from Connecticut and are about 2 and 1/2 hours away. Normally would would fly out of Bradley but the rates are very high right now. Also, we'd probably have to stay an extra night in Fort lauderdale because of flight scheduling.
