  1. The TSA (thousands standing around) sets the rules for what can be transported and how. With respect to scissors, any type can be carried in checked luggage as long as it is protected so as not to injure inspectors. In hand carry bags scissors with blades that are less than 4 inches from the pivot point are allowed. In every case agents are permitted to make a final decision on the spot. If terminal agents are confiscating scissors that are within TSA rules you should appeal to supervision in the terminal, and if necessary complain to Homeland Security for the over-reaching local rules.
  2. They are competing with the airlines who have a similar operating practices. I once gave two bags to an airline and told the lady I was going to Hawaii, and one bag was going to Orlando, and the other to Dallas. She said "We can't do that." I asked "Why not? You did last time." I think the platinum badge on the luggage tag is to make you feel good. The handlers pay no mind. They sort the bags onto carts bound for deck, port, starboard, aft, or forward. Then deliver using the least amount of walking possible.
  3. Aye, and don't forget the malarkey with those shenanigans!
  4. I cruise to Mexico often, and I like that everyone aboard is just people. You can have a polite conversation with anyone young to old. Cruisers are a great bunch of folks.
