  1. The one in the photo is state issued. One other point when using a birth certificate is that the name must match the name on the driver's license, and the boarding pass. If your name changes because of adoption or marriage, you need to bring the marriage license or certificate of adoption. A passport is so much easier and the gold standard for travel abroad.
  2. Having an uneventful flight is about as rare as finding a dog that does long division these days. I hear too many stories of busted trips that has a connecting flight. They blame everyone except the Easter Bunny for the extreme delays and cancelled flights. In 60 years of flying I have never seen such poorly managed airlines. They have to know of the problems, but want to hold onto your money as long as possible. If I cannot get a nonstop flight on a Boeing, I ain't going.
  3. Panorama did it a conference room.
  4. If the painting in the elevator is a dude, he is rinsing the twig & berries, because it is a bidet. I am liking this review. Lot of good to know things.
  5. On Vista class ships the only rear balconies with privacy are on deck 9. Other decks can been seen from those above, and the railbirds on deck 10. In practice there is little to no traffic on deck 5 walking past the cabanas.
  6. I like your review and pictures. Great stuff in there. I enjoyed the trip to the ballpark and the walk through the terminal. I don't know how they do it but I am 71 and they still find an old woman to slow the roll at the gangway. Looking forward to more pic's and commentary on your adventure. I am aboard in August and your review could not have come at a better time. I have never cruised to AK, and have not been there for fifty years.
  7. I am looking forward to the Repositioning Cruise from Seattle. I have never been on a cruise longer than 7 days and am anxious to see how they keep us entertained on all the sea days. I believe there are three elegant nights. For me that means a dress shirt & tie.
  8. In the past Aussie excursions had to be booked aboard.
  9. Looks like a good place to be. Thanks for the pics!
  10. I take the earliest time. I found there was no problem arriving later. In Long Beach just mention "Traffic, ugh." and they whisk you in. I wheel in my luggage now and save the porter tip. I take my cases and carry on to the room and leave them there even if they are not done. I then go to the hot tub on Serenity for an hour or so. Then a rinse in the spa locker room shower, and head for Guy's or a pasta bowl. Then find a lounger in the shade and watch the world go by. About 4 I unpack and sit on the balcony until sail away. Then I open the app and plan the evening activities.
  11. I am spoiled by enjoying this dish in Mongolia. Tasty meats and savory vegetables sauced with wine, lobster, and ginger sauces, BBQ oil, hot sauce, sesame oil, and garlic. Woked quickly on a very hot surface. Lamb, beef, pork, and chicken should be available. Carnival has a nice looking product, but has all the flavor of pablum. I wish they would step it up to genuine flavors. The chef's can do it, and certainly do in the crew mess.
  12. The specifications for IMAX theaters is very specific as to the amount of sound that comes out of the theater. You can stand by the outside wall of the theater and still hear a cricket. On Horizon I could not hear anything outside the theater. There were several sound attenuation methods used, including soft fabric wall covering, sound deadening foam on the interior walls. Dynamat on the inside of exterior walls. Sound absorbing mats in the walls and ceiling, I can't see anyone being annoyed by sound in the theater.
  13. The "Captains Lounge" in Long Beach has been converted to a mobility scooter rental office. Currently there is no "Priority" check in, however, there are separate lines for suite guests. Unfortunately suites board first in every boarding group and people in other rooms will wait longer. In practice I have seen Suites and Platinum/Diamonds released to the ramp together, with the herd not long after. Grand suites are the largest, but I have to tell you the Havana suites on deck 5 would be my favorite on the ship. There are no secret penthouses like on the fantasy class ships. There is only one Captain's Cabin on Panorama, but the captain sleeps in that one.
  14. You may arrange in advance to have your meals prepared ashore in a kosher kitchen. The seal them in trays and keep them in a separate area from the main foodstuffs. They are heated and brought to the table by the waiter who uncovers the food in front of you. Kitchen and wait staff are trained in the liturgy of your faith and knows to respect the necessities of keeping Kosher.
  15. Any US citizen may cruise with a birth certificate including kids. Those over 16 will also need a government issued picture ID in addition to the birth certificate. Based on my experience with 65 years of international travel, don't leave the country without a passport. Should things go sideways in a foreign country, things may not go well if you do not have a passport.
  16. Splendor is sailing Seattle to Sydney at the end of the Alaska season. Spirit is sailing Seattle to Miami at the end of the Alaska season. Miracle is being drydocked early, for possible relocation to Oz. My question is what ship will do the long thin routes from the West Coast? Perhaps a HAL, or Princess ship? Could Miracle stay on the West coast and a P&O Aus ship do the Carnival trips? I have 4 Journeys booked on Miracle through 2024, so I'd like to know.
  17. I have sailed three times in the last 3 months. Promptly at 8 am self-assist Platinum's were escorted from Vista 4 AFT on the outside deck to the gangway. We were screened by Ipad and out of the dome by 8:10.
  18. The TV's and programming in terminals do not have a clicker controlled by the whim of staff. If it was it would be on sports channels. Those TV's are paid for by broadcasters for the purpose of advertising. The terminal makes a few bucks, and the broadcaster sells your eyeballs to advertisers. Bars in the terminal and on the ships that have TV's have a cable or satellite subscription and pay based on how many seats are in the venue.
  19. I love this review. Has more detail than a Danielle Steele novel. Well written, with great photos and the occasional movie. I just want to know one thing. Why do they call it The Space Needle? It has never been in space, it's a GROUND needle for heaven's sake. I might have missed it, but do your feet get cold with regular socks and shoes? Or, should I pack silk under socks with heavy wool socks?
  20. Now if we could just ban scooters...except for people who truly need them.
  21. The hardest part is the hike off the ship to smile for the nice CPB officer and then hike back on. The ship escorts you off and back on.
  22. My spies (family members) inside the State Department tell me that enhanced Tribal ID is equal to a US passport and valid at all air and sea ports.
  23. You left off no trap shooting on the fantail, but there is an IMAX theater so a good time will be had by all.
