  1. We went to Teppanyaki on the Getaway last summer, and I agree with you. It was nice for a once off, the chef was enthusiastic and friendly, my two teenage kids liked the pageantry, and the food portions were way too big for all of us... I wouldn't go there again though.
  2. If you are wearing your Kevlar there is nothing to worry about. Good luck!
  3. Have disembarked in Civitavecchia with the family and made flights from FCO and Ciampino airport several times with time to spare (well over an hour) for pints and sit down food in each airport for a flight in around 12. Only caveat is, we walk our own luggage off and get a transfer (either private or shared).
  4. No, I have not sailed on the Getaway since June 2023, I am actually here now in the process of booking a trip on her again in a few weeks. Nice to hear it is complimentary now, I hope it offers a different option(s) to what you can get in the buffet with regards fast food. (I like fast food!)
  5. They should get rid of that American Diner on the pool deck, never seen or spoke to anyone who dined there. Maybe the Q restaurant would be a better swap here.
  6. In the current active situation of declared war in said country, would anyone be willing to travel to an active warzone or embark on static ship in port in said warzone? Optimists vs pessimists aside, common sense has to prevail at some point in this question.
  7. Same experience for us boarding the Getaway late June this year around 11am. As long as you have your required documentation on hand there will be zero issues.
  8. Good evening, one of my kids comment earlier sparked this thread in a roundabout way.. it was in response to a question I asked on where do you wish to go on holiday next? They reply was; "On a cruise but on a different ship because they seem to be all the same". Fair point I thought from a teenager perspective. Which then got me thinking as I have only cruised NCL. I would indeed like to experience a different ship "layout" just for something different, but I don't want to sacrifice the craic for it 🤣 (Hands up who doesn't understand that comment?). Kids do the entourage and arcade all all the kids activities etc.. Background from the wife & I perspective: Cruised with NCL 3 times: Epic, Escape & Getaway. Apart from the commonality: Epic Liked Venues: Spice H20, Bliss lounge, Casino. O Sheehan's Liked Entertainment: Dueling piano's, Bliss Dj Liked Food: All we sampled Escape Liked Venues: District Brew House, O Sheehan's & Waterfront. Liked Entertainment: Dueling piano's , and Eddie in District Brewhouse Liked food: Food Republic & Buffet Getaway Liked Venues: Sunrise bar &, Waterfront. Liked food: Buffet Cruise route/itinerary is outside the scope of this ask, thank you. Any suggestion on another NCL ship based on the above from your experience? ** Older ships are out & I am looking for mainly large ships above +100,000 GRT
  9. I have had a similar experience with a TA (not in Canada), even after providing them with an itemized list and screen shots of what I wanted (it included cruise, flights, transfers, hotel, insurance etc.) with associated prices of each at the time of printing (obviously not including the TA fee etc.) and of course subject to price flux. The TA made such a mess of it, incorrect departing port, wrong city for hotel, incorrect stateroom and no transfers!, from that moment on, I book everything separately myself, I use NCL.com for the cruise booking only.
  10. The teen area was under 18 only, so I cannot comment on if there was there. I played the kids in pool @ O'Sheehan's.
  11. You can buy them pre cruise (if you cannot find the option on the NCL site, call NCL and they will assist), otherwise you can purchase it on board (just go to the casino area and there will be a stand to sign up). As for price vs value, my son had the price used up in about 3 days... it was approx $5 per game of pool alone and he played many games
  12. We seen 20 minutes of this show and left, jokes were worse than the dedicated 'comedian' onboard, and the singing was like a bad dose off of the TCM channel. I heard better singing collaboration from random passengers in the after hours sing songs.
  13. Unfortunately the putt golf is still gone. I would have enjoyed that too if it was still there!
  14. The lifeboat decks port and starboard have a shuffleboard on the Getaway. The wife and I had good fun playing it for the first time a few weeks ago on it. Also the American Diner was empty anytime we walked by it, and became a bit of joke during the 9 days of why it is offered as an option as it was clearly not appealing to those onboard.
  15. Yes. Prior to May 2023 I enjoyed Grey Goose on each cruise as part of the FAS Ultimate Beverage package. Grey Goose along with many other alcohol brands/types is no longer part of the FAS Ultimate Beverage package. You now need to purchase the Premium Plus beverage package to access these. By giving everyone all the FAS options now as default when booking instead of a select option of 2 has really seen the chickens come home to roost IMO.
  16. I was on the Getaway a couple of weeks back. I enquired and the results were: No Belvedere remaining on the ship. Grey Goose was an additional charge of $2.40 if you had the FAS ultimate beverage package (or whatever its rebranded as now) P.S. the additional charge was worth every cent IMO, We carried out some blind taste tests for fun. All the the vodka included in the FAS UBP vs Grey Goose. Each in a glass with ice and pineapple juice. Even my wife could tell the difference and she would not be into vodka.
  17. I have never seen a bartender swipe for a soda for me or the kids (even though the kids have the soda package).
  18. Supply and demand prices with some offers thrown in the mix over the calendar year up to sailing date. Cost of living and everything that goes with it has gone up, .. its up there with death and taxes from a control perspective if you are resigned to booking a cruise!
  19. We never book specialty dining restaurants, we walk up ask and go with the flow of the answer and never have been refused. We were on the Getaway ending last week, and on each occasion of walking up we were granted a table. FYI... the Stateroom TV always showed reservations as book out for each specialty dining restaurants....
  20. We were on the Getaway ending last week. There was a super hero escape type game on the dailies, I wanted to give it a lash, but the teenager's had other plans with their new found friends! Hence I cannot comment on the event.
  21. We are just back off the Getaway, it was around 3:30 am each night we went to bed, we would leave the rest of crowd as they continued the sing song and joke telling into the buffet breakfast hours 🤣 Some great stories and memories and some serious laughter. It was great craic!
  22. Update: I went looking for a 'fish theme' slot and found one. I inserted a $20 note and a soon I had won $60.40 after many auto spins on a big win on screen. I cashed out and did not play another slot for the rest of the cruise 🤣
  23. I agree, its a good call, but I consider anytime away from the 'outlaws' (aka in-laws) as winning regardless of cost!
  24. Thanks for the replies. Indeed, I do understand they are programmed, and the probability of hitting a decent sequence is an outlier in the grand scheme of things etc. Also, having a go at the slots is purely for entertainment purposes and not an 'investment', il just wet the whistle and tap that button, and hopefully I will find a fishing themed one. Although I do prefer my hard earned beer tokens to last awhile longer if possible 😄
