  1. I absolutely agree with this post. Let me start by saying that I am one of those who enjoy dressing up. To me it’s part of the fun of a cruise, and what makes it different from everyday life. I’ve been sailing Silversea for many years, and early on I also sailed on Regent. When Regent changed to “casual dress” for evenings (as well as including excursions), I no longer sailed them. The only other line I regularly sailed was Cunard in Queen’s Grill on Queen Mary 2 for transatlantic crossings (even more “formal” than Silversea was). Silversea has already modified its evening dress code towards more “casual” in a way that I wasn’t that happy about, but at least it still had “Informal” between Casual and Formal. While not optimal for me, it was OK during the 4 Silversea cruises I took over the past year. Now the Informal seems to be disappearing. With Silversea now also including excursions (which I would prefer it not do), there is no longer a reason for me to choose Silversea over Regent – I will look to itinerary and price, since I think that the Regent product is likely to be pretty comparable. I should also add that my husband and I are booked (and paid in full) on the Nova cruise over Christmas and New Year’s. Since that cruise was booked and paid for, Silversea has apparently changed the dress code on that ship in a way that I am unhappy with. I really don’t think that’s right. When it announces this kind of change it should be in advance of the availability of booking for the relevant ship/cruises. An important motivator for me booking this cruise was the dress code. I’m not saying that I would necessarily have decided not to book the cruise, but it certainly would have given me pause and I would have considered other options for the holiday period.
  2. Many thanks for all of your useful information. Appreciated!
  3. Thanks once again. I truly appreciate your advice. We are on Silversea. I would hope that they would handle things similarly to your cruise line. When things get closer to the cruise date I'll try to communicate with Silversea about it.
  4. Thanks again. I guess I'm just worried about this because my husband and I are in our mid-70s, and so dealing with luggage can be difficult for us. That's why I usually like to arrange private transfers that take us right to where we need to go, and will also handle the luggage for us. Plus I understand the area around the port is not the best.
  5. Thanks for this. Were they able to take you literally to the ship itself and not simply to the port entrance?
  6. Hi. Need some help. My husband and I are flying into Lima, Peru, the night before boarding our cruise ship. Since our flight arrives late, we plan to stay overnight at the Wyndham Costa del Sol at the airport, and go to the ship the next day. My understanding is that the ship will be docked in Callao, at what is really a cargo ship port, and that there is some difficulty with having taxis, etc. be able to drop passengers off at the ship itself, rather than at the entrance to the port. Can anyone recommend a car service that would be able to pick us up at the hotel and drive us to the ship at the port? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
  7. Sorry, the title of this didn't come out correctly. I'll repost with a corrected title.

  9. Sorry, I just found the answer to my question under "Life Onboard", on the website. Thanks, but hope I didn't bother anyone.
  10. Hi. I'm wondering whether there is any way to make an advance (prior to boarding) appointment for spa services (such as a facial or manicure) on the Voyager. I apologize if this has been asked before or if the answer is obvious on the website, but I have been unable to find the answer anywhere. Thanks in advance for your help.
  11. My husband and I thought that Kaiseki was awful (although my husband enjoys going there for sushi only for lunch, for which there is no additional charge). We would not go back for dinner even if there were no additional charge.
  12. How fabulous is that!!!!!! Just wonderful. Such exciting news. My husband and I are thrilled. Can't wait!
  13. I was just going by the restaurants listed on the current Crystal website. Hopefully that will change, and the negotiations will be successful. That would be a big plus!
  14. BAD (for my husband and me): No Nobu!!!! We absolutely adored that restaurant, and would go multiple times during a cruise. Even if another Japanese restaurant is substituted, I expect it would be unlikely to be the caliber of food (and service) provided by Nobu. The presence of Nobu was actually one of the reasons we returned to Crystal after our first cruise on them.
  15. Many thanks to everyone for your helpful answers.
  16. Thanks for this. Could you help interpret this for me? I'm really not good at understanding what this kind of thing actually means. Also, you said that you were on some working ships smaller than Silversea. Were any of those in the Atlantic in November? If so, how was it? Thanks
  17. Hi. I'm considering a transatlantic crossing on the Nova next November 2023 (ending in NY on November 18). I have done many transatlantic crossings on Cunard over the years (QE2; QM2), but even with those ships specifically built for transatlantic travel, have not done a true winter crossing. So I'm wondering whether anyone has any experience with a winter transatlantic crossing on a Silversea ship. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
  18. As I posted on the Crystal board regarding the Mozart: Very excited about this development. We had had a cruise booked on the Mozart, but cancelled because of concern about Crystal's financial viability (and were glad we did, as it turned out). Does anyone know whether German will be the primary language on Mozart cruises with this company? If so, how might that relate to any talks given onboard or how excursions might be handled, etc.? Thanks for any insights.
  19. Hi. Sorry I can't respond to the Venice part of your question, but I have used Luggage Forward many times to ship luggage to a ship (Silversea and others). The luggage is generally waiting for me in the suite, or arrives shortly after I do. I always send an email in advance (about 2 weeks in advance) to the cruise company, informing them that I am shipping luggage. I give them the ship name, the voyage number, the port, the date the luggage is to arrive at the ship (cruise departure date), my name, my suite number, my Silversea reservation number, the number of pieces being shipped, luggage color and size (such as "large" or "medium"), the name of the luggage delivery company, and my reservation number with the luggage delivery company. I've never had a problem with a delivery. I note that you mention Silversea's luggage delivery service. I just looked at the Silversea website for the Silver Shore Baggage Valet, and it says "Page Not Found". Do you know whether this service is still provided by Silversea, and if so, how to find out the details about it? Thanks.
  20. Thanks for the response. I must admit, however, to being a bit disappointed at not finding out about some hidden gem that I was unaware of.
  21. Hi. I read this part of your review with great interest. I have never, on any cruise line, had breakfast pastries that were "French Pasty shop quality and selection", although I would love to! I checked with my husband to see whether his view corresponded with mine, and it did. We have sailed on Silversea, Crystal, Regent, and Cunard (Queen's Grill). Would you mind naming the cruise line(s) that you think serve this level of pastry? I would greatly appreciate it.
  22. So sorry to hear about your getting Covid. Here's to a fast and successful full recovery.
  23. Hi. My memory from prior Silversea cruises is that you may order 2 bottles of liquor per cabin to be placed in your cabin. Is that still the case? If so, I wondered if you could provide information about what is available. Many thanks in advance.
  24. Actually my hope is just the opposite -- that Silversea will continue to require testing. It is one of the things that make me somewhat comfortable to cruise under current circumstances.
