  1. 290 sq. ft. plus balcony can contain a lot of little bunnies!
  2. I went to Antarctica on Ponant's Le Boreal. Fantastique! Abercrombie & Kent had chartered it, so English was the first language. Lovely (clean!) ship.
  3. Is it suggested to tip the Blacklane driver?
  4. I am Platinum status on Regent and Platinum on Seabourn and have cruised several times on Silversea and have 2 planned for this year. We all have our reasons for choosing one cruiseline over another. For me, it's itinerary. If one of your main reasons for excluding Silversea from your choices is because of the "extra charge for dining in several venues", I want to remind you the only extra charges are for La Dame and Kaiseki for dinner. That still leaves 6 restaurants with no surcharge, so many more than Navigator (and Seabourn). I like Chartreuse and Pacific Rim but will continue to look at all 3 lines for my next cruise.
  5. My husband and I did that train. A lot of nothing between Kalgoorlie (a mine visit at night!) and Adelaide. But I love trains, so that was OK. Meals repeated too, but you don't go on trains - most trains - for the food. Enjoy!
  6. Is this the Copenhagen Marriott that you're referencing that is "undergoing a major refurbishment in the reception area"? I plan on spending 3 nights there in August - and will definitely not order a burger, only the fries! I was on Ovation in May and can't agree with you about your staff complaints. But a dirty bathroom and broken fridge are inexcusable. Sooo glad I missed the dog and its nasty owners!
  7. A voyage I thoroughly enjoyed was a repositioning cruise after (or before) the Alaska season which includes the Aleutians, then cross the Pacific to Kamchatka Peninsula and then to and around Japan. I went on Silversea Muse.
  8. JON, thank you for all your onboard postings and the very descriptive follow-up after debark. In hindsight, it's too bad you didn't go directly to the Hotel Director with your failing fridge problem, especially with a need for refrigerated medication. And I would have mentioned the snarky advice to store your medicine in the medical center. You're right. Most of us Sebourn Sailers don't understand the need for The Retreat. But you got your money's worth, and the service was probably very good since the space is underused. And I agree, the "supply chain" excuse is old. When I was on Ovation in April, there were Restaurant mishaps because of failed technology. Can't orders be taken by hand in emergencies? 🤔 Enjoy your Odyssey sailing.
  9. I have been sailing solo since 2011, including Antarctica. Silversea does a decent job of solo get togethers for drinks and/or dinner (and their fares can be better than other CruiseLine's), and Regent does also, but Seabourn's hosting of dinner tables in The Restaurant is the best. Printed invitations and a request to RSVP (of course), and dinner can be with staff, entertainers or guest lecturers. Very accommodating for us solos - and couples who like to share tables.
  10. I haven't sailed Oceania for at least 5 years, but thought their partnership with Jacques Pepin was a success. Unfortunately in my opinion, the only reason to sail with Oceania was their specialty restaurants: so good.
  11. Understood. Is it now going to be hard to choose between the new Crystal and Seabourn? 😀
  12. Susan, may I call you Susan? (Since others have 🙂). Though we've never met, I have enjoyed your posts from other cruises and would love to meet you on a future cruise. Thank you for all the interesting posts and fabulous photos. I have been to Norway, as far as the North Cape, with Seabourn but am taking a Silversea cruise to Norway in August (my friend's chance to see Norway) which only goes as far north as Trondheim. But it has been enjoyable to anticipate my trip while reading about yours. Oh, that we will have similar weather! Fiona
  13. On another post you mentioned that you were Diamond and therefore entitled to upgraded internet package. But your first cruise was last August? How did you become Diamond so fast? Stay on board all year? 😀 Sounds great!
  14. I'm confused by your last sentence. Do you think the post should be retired? Or the Hot Rocks concept?
  15. Just to confirm: you purchased the upgraded wifi @$20/day, which allows streaming?
  16. On my recent Ovation cruise, the news channels (from the US) were Fox News and MSNBC.
  17. You spelled Loula's name correctly. I was on a B2B April-May, and John Barron was on the first leg, and Loula began her first stint as CD on the second leg. A delight, especially when she is hosting a table of widows, very attentive, and loads of energy. A few days into her first efforts as CD, a passenger quite unexpectedly came up to her and said, "You are a stupid little girl!" Can you imagine? He should have been booted off the ship!
  18. I think you're right - there is no policy (or pattern). They will publish when they have confirmation from their shore excursion suppliers. I commend you for spot checking, as I am doing for my TKG reservation for next April. It IS 10 months away, more important things to think about right now.
  19. I am on B2B cruises in April 2024 and have booked shore excursions but cannot book TKG.
  20. How wide are twins? Cause that's what the "one" bed is, 2 twins pushed together.
  21. I always thought it was Atlantide as in Atlantic ocean and tide, no?
  22. Don't you have to pay Final Payment before booking TKG?
  23. "forced". Is that a typo? What do you mean?
