    1. I wanted to add that when I was at the beach, I was mindful of the recent conversations regarding skin cancer. I hate wearing hats despite the fact I have at least 20+ different hats, ball caps, etc, f all sizes an shapes. People keep giving them to me as gifts over the years. Not sure why since I never wear them. Did I mention I hate wearing hats? Just don't like the feel of something tight on my head.

Anyways, had my first ever full body scan by a dermatologist a few weeks ago & while I passed with flying colors, she did recommend that I start wearing a hat whenever I'm outside to cover my *ahem* slight thinning spot (ok, bald spot) on top of my head.  It's been her experience that most men my age get skin cancer on top of their heads and ears.  So after reading about @Sea Dog recent experience and the various creams and side effects others have experienced, I decided I rather wear an uncomfortable hat. Fortunately, all the hats are in "like new" condition since I never wear them.

At least I am seeing more men wearing hats and long sleeve swim shirts in the sea and pool so it makes me feel more comfortable wearing them. In the end I would rather be safe and look kind of dorky than get skin cancer.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve downloaded an app just to find out it is subscription based. It gets immediately deleted.

Thanks Greg.  The note that I have shows the same PPOG ratios but using 1 oz light rum and 1 oz Jamaican rum instead of 1.5 oz Jamaican rum.  I'm not sure if I later updated what I posted here, or maybe I posted the most recent version (above) and forgot to update my notes??  Either way should be great Deb.  The mix of light and Jamaican rum will have a slightly higher alcohol content and you'll probably taste less rum and more of the juice mix, while the 1.5 oz Jamaican rum version will have slightly more of the funky Jamaican flavor.  Take your pick.

I think 2oz of rum will help tame all the sweetness of the PPOG mixture. I did make the ultimate Mai Tai recipe from Kevin Crossman’s website. I think I liked the Ultimate just a little bit better as it wasn’t as sweet but I need to redo your recipe using the light rum and Jamaican rums.

I’m sure you already posted it at some point, but would you mind sharing your ratios for the

P, P, O and G juices? This would be great (or dangerous) to keep handy in the fridge.

@Sea Dog Greg sorry to hear of another health concern with the spots on your head.  I hope that cream does the job, even if unpleasant at first.  Maybe you need to start wearing a bandana - pirate style 🙂!

Here is what I copied and pasted from Bob's original post about his recipe.

"It was the more modern version that I did a lot of experimenting to get the juices to match what I remember from Hawaii.  I'll usually make a batch of PPOG juice (pineapple, passion fruit, orange, guava) so that it's easy to create and serve several drinks.  I then add the rest of the ingredients right before serving.

    PPOG Juice:

    2 oz passionfruit juice

    1.5 oz guava juice

    1 oz orange juice

    1 oz pineapple juice

The Goya brand of passion fruit and guava are available in stores near me.  You can also order from Amazon.  Mix the PPOG juice with 0.5 oz Orgeat syrup and 1.5 oz Jamaican rum in a cocktail shaker with crushed ice and shake well..about 15 seconds.  Dump pour into a tiki glass.  Add a 0.5 oz dark rum floater on top (I just use Myer's) to give it the layered look.  Garnish with a lime wedge and fresh mint".

    Enjoy!

Good idea on the bandana. THis pirate dog likes that idea.

  5. Love our Friday nights! Why you ask? Because it’s “Cruising with Cocktails” night when we watch this weeks episode of “Below Deck.” This week it’s “Below Deck Med” season 9 episode 1 with Captain Sandy at the helm. I know a lot of you have already watched it but I try to hold off reading any thing about it.

Tonights Tiki cocktail comes courtesy of @bobmacliberty who got an incredible recipe for a Mai Tai from I believe Hawaii. This version uses PPOG juice which is combination of Passion Fruit juice, Pineapple juice, Orange  juice and Guava juice. That and rum and Orgeat and it makes for one really good Mai Tai. Thanks Bob this is a winner!

I had skin cancer go to a nerve requiring immunotherapy so do your cream. I’m still getting MRIs every 6 months.  Be very careful as others have said around your dogs or pregnant women.

Having almost lost my life to skin cancer, squamous and Basel, not melanoma, I still cruise.  I wear sunscreen everyday.  Hats when out. Rash guard and shade with 50 spf on a beach or boat.  My days of sitting in the sun are over. I take Vit D instead.  But I’m not going to quit doing what I love to do or stop going to grands soccer games.  I’m just more careful about it now.

Thanks for your thoughts. I have been wearing long sleeve rash guards for the last couple of years. Sunburn can ruin a cruise real fast.

Tilley was a canadian comany but has been sold out a few years ago.  There are still a few selections that are still made in Canada and have the lifetime warranty that Tilley was known for.

As you might have guessed from my avatar... I have several summer Tilley hats and the most wonderful T2 Tecwool winter hat. (Link is to the US site)

Those  look very nice. I may need to get one of those. I do have a wide brimmed hat.

@Sea Dog Hi Greg, I have used the cream on my face (twice). The cream is worth doing.    Your skin will turn an ugly red, it  will be sun sensitive whilst you use the cream. My GP told me to start using it in the cooler months & stay in the shade/indoors as as  as possible.  My top tip is to apply it in the bathroom and wash your hands immediately afterwards (you don’t want to rub it in your eyes). If I were you, I would be stopping  the pups from licking your head immediately so they get the message before you start using the cream.  You don’t want them licking it off - for their health and yours - you want the cream to be undisturbed to be effective.

Great advice. I have copied and pasted this into my notes. The sheet they gave me says to wear gloves when putting it on.

Yes, I have used several times.   It works great and my dermatologist has always been very happy with the results.  In fact, he mentioned this week how smooth my face after doing this in 2023.

I have done this treatment on my upper chest (that was the worst), shoulders and full face.

The first week is easy you really won't start to see or feel the effects until the 2nd week.   It will burn, itch and be gruesome looking.  You will end up with oozing blister like bubbles that will probably turn black and eventually peel off.   The entire area where applied will be a bright red, like a bad sunburn.

Each time I have used I was instructed to apply twice a day.  When applying the cream it felt good but then wait an hour or so then apply Vaseline.

There is also a version that comes as a pre-mixed compound with a soothing cream.  If your Dr can prescribe that version, get it.  Not all pharmacies carry it.  My CVS did not carry it but I was able to get both items and mix myself.   Or it can be mail ordered.   Even with this version you still want to use the Vaseline to keep it moist.

That's good, that means it is working.   Your skin will feel like it's on fire while healing, that lasts about 1 week depending on how bad the spots were.

My best word of advice is keep it moist with Vaseline.   Do not use any type of lotions or cremes they will burn on your raw skin.

Use old pillow cases and throw them out when done.

Doubt you will be able to wear a hat.  If you do, throw it out when done.

When I did my upper chest then shoulders i ruined lots of clothes and bedding because of the Vaseline but so worth it.

It hurt like he** to take a shower and used baby shampoo to avoid the sting but you need to keep the area very clean.

Also, make sure you wash your hands immediately after applying the creme.

Do not lay down on sofa and let dogs near your head or anywhere you have laid.   The creme is highly deadly if they injest by getting on their paws or lick your head or any pillows you laid your head on

Highly recommend doing it.  It may be torture for a month but definitely worth it vs skin cancer.

Im going to ask the doctor about that and using Vaseline. I would think that would help.

I agree.  Can't go through life scared.  That said, I wear a hat 95% of the time when I'm outdoors.  Even if I'm just going out to water plants for 5 minutes, I put on a hat.  It has become such a habit that I'll feel like something is missing if I leave the house without a hat.  The good news is that you can buy hats in every cruise port. 😁

Hats don’t bother me just need to be more mindful of wearing it.

@Sea Dog I have used the cream under the generic name. It causes your skin to get all red and irritated. It looks awful but does go away after treatment -- in my case it was supposed to be used for a couple weeks. I have used it on my forehead and also my lips (ouch - that was hard to take). The idea is to kill pre-cancerous cells/stuff.

Thanks for that info. Luckily it will be for just the top of my head. I would imagine on the lips would be very painful and uncomfortable.

I agree with you sea dog the hits just keep o  coming. I used to play a lot of tennis and have had lots of MOHS, lasted time was above my knee and she said they dont do MOHS there because the scarring wouldnt show. I also have done the radiology on my left hand. It still ,ewves a scar and is white with red blotches around the white. ... and that takes a LONG time to do. Meet, then meet to map, then 8 weeks of low radiology and check ups. It took over 3  months and imo still is pretty visible.

If you find a cream that removes skin cancer, please post to my attention. I dont always get to every post but if you post to my attention  I'll see it. I for sure need to see a dentist. I've a,ready done 3 implants. The first time the metal was still co sisdered rare and I know was well over $17k for one implant. Then I had a problem between 2 teeth and complained for a year or 2 to my dentist, who just prescribed antibiotics and couldn't find the abscess. So 2 skinny implants in that hole. If I could find a way to stop this getting old I sure would. I've always had teeth issues though.

And the moving truck news just keeps getting worse and worse. I finally got a hold of someone who called the movers, who are in bkytin beach, not that far south of me. When they were packing me up he asked when I could have the movers and I said last friday, give  myself a fee days I thought. The girl today said the 12 business days doesnt start being counted until from last friday, the day I said I'd like to move in. So count 12 business days starting AFTER last friday. She said she thought maybe by the end of next week, but could even be the weekend after this one, before I know, and then could be like the tuesday after next week on tuesday. That's 12 business days after last friday. I'd have picked a sooner date had I understood just how long it woukd be, but she thinks maybe by the end of next week they will deliver. I was counting from the day of pick up, not from the day I said I'd like it de,ivered. I've quit being as stressed as I'm getting a lot of rest, but I thought no later than Wednesday next week .. add 4 more business days.

I guess there is a place where I could have and should have read to understand their terms better. 2 to 12 days didnt sound so bad especially when I read here eczema (sorry cant spelll) said she got her stuff in 2 days. My stuff and mostly antiques I've had 50 years  is out sitting in south florida in 100 degree heat. Like a 300 or whatever napoleon table with marble top, my end tables are all antiques. I sure didnt have a clear understanding of how they counted days to arrive. And hoped it was closer to the 2 days than 12 business days. She said something like if they dont text by june 14, contact them again. .. yea right. How did these folks get 9.9 out of 10 on reviews? Google showed them to be the highest rated moving company. I paid almost $3500 brokerage fee and they cant hire more phone help? I tried several times  and kept getting due to the u usual call column theh suggested I leave my  number for a call back. The 2nd time I tried to just wait it out and gave up. Easily 2 to 3 hours for someone to call back. At least I know they have my right phone, as I just gave up my land line last week on Monday. So some still have that phone  number too. Its sure a good thing I really wanted to move to see the ocean and water, not dallas. I was sure by next week surely I'd have my stuff, but nope, could be later. So far a very expensive education in how NOT to move. Throw away anything you might not want and buy it new. Cut things to only treasures. I think they should say to you the date you pick you say yiunwant to move in might be when the 12 business days start. I dont want to threaten them with a bad review, they might treat me even worse, but so far I'd say 2 out 10, not 9.9 out of 10. Let's hope the heat isnt hurting the antiques.

And I still have not homesteaded the house for my sister, waiting on her hubby to snail mail a copy of her new ID. I filled out the form jan 1st this year! it's like come beat your head against this wall some more.

I feel for you too. I know you have had your share of issues. Those implant prices are insane. I think every dentist that does them would probably quote you a different price. It’s very scary and why I don’t like or trust dentists. I will keep you posted on the cream and how it works. Hang in there my dear!

Redness and scaling of the scalp mainly.  As the cream takes effect, it leaves the scalp very sensitive to the touch and painful.  After he was done, the Dr. had him use a steroid cream to speed the healing, but it was still sensitive for a week after.  Also, you become very sensitive to sunburn after so use sunscreen and wear a hat.

Thanks for the advice. I am usually pretty good about wearing a hat on the beach. Looks like sunscreen and a hat are my new normal.

Sorry to hear about your head. Mike had to use a cream that seems to do about the same thing from what I just read. It says Fluorouracil “It works by killing fast-growing cells such as the abnormal cells in actinic keratoses and basal cell carcinoma.” Efudex says “This medication is used on the skin to treat pre-cancerous and cancerous skin growths. Fluorouracil belongs to a class of medications known as anti-metabolites. It works by blocking the growth of abnormal cells that cause the skin condition.” Sounds like the same thing to me, but my sure @Ocean Boy would know more. I just got this medical knowledge from Mr. Google. 😆

Thanks Renee apparently they are the same drug. Did Mike have any issues with it?

Will it be a permanent red spot? I read that it cause your scalp to redden and burn. I also read where it is toxic to pets and do not let pets lick your head which is what Charlie loves to do.

  16. Well the hits keep on coming. Bad enough still trying to rehab the knee, then deal with hernia, then needing periodontal work in a couple of weeks. Plus next week is my MRI to see if I have any prostate cancer.

Today I went for a skin cancer checkup. They did one biopsy on a piece by my forehead but they are concerned with a some spots starting to develop on my bald head. Turns out they want me to come back after our October cruise to get a topical chemotherapy cream to put on my head called  “Efudex.” The side effects sound horrible. Anyone have experience with this topical chemotherapy cream on their head? Thoughts and advice is greatly appreciated.

So little!!!!  I didn't realize that baby deer have so many spots on their coat!  So cute!

Speaking of so cute, we haven't seen pictures of Charlie and his sister for a while!🤔

Every fawn that I have seen has spots but as they grow older they disappear. This got me wondering why? I found this interesting information.

“Fawns are born with a reddish-brown coat and white spots that run in two lines from their ears to their tails, with other spots scattered on their flanks and bodies. The spots help camouflage them as they lie still on the forest floor or in fields, making it harder for predators to find them. By winter, the spots fade and the coat turns brown.”
