1. I know Princess uses Piers 2 and 4 at times. This past weekend there was a two hour wait to get a taxi outside these two Piers. I know there is a sidewalk that goes along the parking structure, and at the north side is a gate that leads out to 17th street. Since we are staying at the Renaissance right there at Eisenhower and 17th street, can you leave the port out that gate and just walk out?
2. As a gay man, I would not step a foot on Jamaican soil. The human rights abuses in that country are horrible.

But -- if grand cayman is the alternative, they are very gay unfriendly.

A few years ago they refused to allow an all-ship gay charter

to come to the island.

On at least one princess itinerary, I saw nicarauga rather or

jamacia or grand cayman.

3. I read a review of the Panama Canal partial transit that said the Island/Coral we're dropping Jamaica as a port of call and replacing it with Grand Caymans on all their future cruises.

Can anyone confirm this. I wonder why they would stop going there?

This fall Coral has been alternating Jamaica and Grand Cayman. All the itineraries after January are just Jamaica. I would prefer Grand Cayman -- if it were changed, I would book!
4. As for those folks who say “what’s the big deal?”. Well, that is your view, but it definitely is NOT mine.
I have been on more than 50 cruises on Princess, and have never had a problem with the steward entering. That's why I think it's a non-issue. I'm sure someone, somewhere really did have this problem. But, from the posts, you would think it was every stateroom on every princess ship. Far more likely is that your luggage containing door stop, bungee cord, door alarm, etc. is lost enroute to the ship.
5. Am I the only one who thinks this just isn't that big a deal?

This is one of the biggest much-ado-about-nothing ever on

Cruise Critic.

BTW, last month my steward liked to bring the patter into the

cabin. He said he was supposed to.

I'm sure that if he just slipped it under the door, someone would complain here about

having to pick it up from the floor.

Or, if he put it into the mail slot, someone here would complain about having to open

the door to retrieve it when they had already dis-robed for the evening.

Another thing to consider. If you miss the ship and decide to fly to the next port' date=' unless you are taking Princess Air, the cost is on you. Also, even if you do have Princess Air, the Jones Act may not let you board at the next port. To add to your potential tail of woes, if you do not have a passport, you will not be able to go.
On the Royal itinerary, you could board at any port, and not

be in violation of the passenger services act.

And, if you have insurance, it doesn't matter if us use Princess Air,

or not -- the cost won't be on you.

And, I've never heard of a woe.

7. We've never been on the Island, but have been on the Coral many times. Never missed the IC on the Coral and since they put it in, still don't miss it. They installed it on top of the casino; it's small and it's noisy. We utilized it over the 14 day cruise, but not as much as we would have had it been in the Atrium like all the others. Trust me. You won't miss it.
The biggest thing we use the IC for is specialty coffee. But on Coral, the IC, the bar in the Lido, and the deck 5 Atrium bar all have specialty coffee... As well as the MDRs, and the speciality resturants.
8. So, like any good little lowly Ruby member, I snuck into the Platinum/Elite party later in the week. :D I had no intention of taking a seat from anyone, or even having a drink (although when someone handed me one, I wasn't going to say no). I wanted to get my photo taken with the Captain, because I've done that on every cruise I've been on thus far.
Very classy. Did you also take the 'free' picture?
9.
We will be on the Ruby departing Dec 22. First Time out of Port Everglades. According to my Port Everglades Cruise Schedule app, there will 8 ships in port, including the Royal and RCCL Allure. Busy day at the port. The schedule lists the Ruby at Terminal 4 and the Royal at Terminal 2.
10. Says "from here" to a US airport, not "from" a US airport.

Previous post:

"These are not US airports. International flight TSA rules are different from flights originating/connecting in and ending in a U.S. airport. If you pick up bottles for example in ORD/Chicago, you need to put it in your checked bags to get it to MIA or Ft. L. Doesn't matter where you bought it, at the airport or the local store. "

11. Thanks for the update. Totally lame that both have to buy it. That will turn a lot of people off. RCL just revised theirs to do away with that rule.

There have been many, many posts here about people sharing coke

stickers, or buying one for all their kids (because the kids don't

drink that much); or getting brewed coffee for multiple people.

I doubt that these people suddenly become honest when they

buy a liquor package.

12. My first primcess cruise is soon but on RCCL we usually go to the buffet for breakfast only (MDR breakfast take too much time especially on port and disembark days

If you want to try mdr for breakfast, ask for a table-for-two.

Much faster than when you have to wait for others.

And, tell the waiter you are in a hurry, and to bring everything.

13. We're on the Crown next week. There will be 7 ships in port and we had planned on returning our rental car at the airport and then taking a cab to the port. Should we take a shuttle instead because of the traffic? Due to the fact that a shuttle is a flat and isn't metered and a cab will run the meter if we get stuck in traffic. What do you all think?

Do a drive-by at the port, and see how long the vehicle lines

are for security?

14. Currently aboard the Coral Princess. Called room service to trade out mini bar for 2 coffee card. They told me they don't do that. I told them it is done. Firm NO. A few minutes later they called back and said I could trade entire mini bar for only 1 coffee card. I told them forget it. Has anyone else encountered this? Anyone to contact?

I did this in November on Coral. Ask to have room-service

supervisor call you back. Sorry, I knew, but forgot his name.

He was very helpful.

15. Does anyone know if the room televisions are enabled so I can use an HDMI cord, and/or if I can put a headphone jack in.

Thanks in advance to the most knowledgeable cruisers anywhere!

Hard to tell...

The TVs vary by ship, with some reports that the Crapsonics on

Emerald are being changed out.

Some have additional inputs.

Some are mounted in such a way that they inputs can't be reached.

Some have the additional inputs disabled, or have no control on the

set or remote to select the 'input'.

Sometimes it works.

There will be posts like: "I did this on a particular ship, therefore

you can do it on any ship." Beware.

16. Still can't carry bottles on board if flying to Florida or any other US airport from here. Needs to go in checked luggage.

You absolutely can in MHT.

http://www.flymanchester.com/news/2011/11/new-hampshire-liquor-wine-outlet-opens

It's a state run liquor store. It is in the gate area, inside security.

Cash and carry -- right on board.

It's just like bringing bottled water on board. It's fine when purchased

inside security.

It is, of course, a violation of FAA rules to consume any alcohol

onboard not provided by the flight crew.

17. Sign me up! They will be losing money with me! .

As princess has been doing this with groups previously, I'm

sure they know the price point which is profitable. And, if they

err -- they can simply adjust as needed.

I think it's going to be a little like food / buffet on the ship.

The first day-or-two, everything looks great, and a lot of folks

really over-eat. A few days into the cruise, people settle down

to more rational eating.

I think the same with liquor. People will really get their money's

worth the first few days, then calm down. Particularly if they are

sick -- sea-sick, too-much-drinking, too-much-sun, etc.

18. While the buffet has good food, it's not as civilized as the MDRs. That applies to all meals. But I can understand how younger people like to waddle up to the buffet and strap on the old feed bag.
Do I have to preorder the feed bag, or is it something I can get onboard?
