  1. If I was worried/paranoid I would have been more worried about using the little individual bottles that are recycled.

I was recently at a hotel where (apparently) some thrifty individual

had added water to a mostly empty bottle of shower gel to use the

entire contents -- then, left it behind, looking like a full bottle to

    the maid.

I almost used it, and then noticed that although

it was full, it was a different color than the others.

    I thought I wouldn't like the dispensers on princess, but I didn't

have a problem. I don't see any difference between them, and

using a liquid soap dispenser in the rest room to wash my hands.

  2. The taxi will be happy to take you to both locations. It will not be a strange request! The FLL airport is about 6 miles from Port Everglades. If you are arriving on a Sunday, watch out for the FL liquor laws. Alcohol cannot be purchased on Sunday before noon.

The ft lauderdale airport is about two miles from port everglades.

If you are on a high deck on a ship, you can clearly see the control

    tower at fll.

Goggle says 3.5mile driving distance. Try:

FLL Terminal: 100 Terminal Dr, Fort Lauderdale, FL

Princess, Berth 2: 1801 se 20th st Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309

Whether you can buy alcohol before noon on Sunday varies

by city. Cities such as Boca Raton and Delray Beach allow

    purchase beginning at 7:00am.

I believe Ft. Lauderdale is still noon, but I'm not sure about

Hollywood, Dania Beach, and other nearby towns.

  3. I'm sorry if this has been posted somewhere. I have tried to search. We are going on the Royal 12/1. I am picking up wine at Total Wine. Previously we would have given our case of wine to the porter and it would have arrived in our room. Now, we will be carrying our wine on. Where do you pay the corkage fee? Is there a table set up? Is it before you get your room card? Thank you for any information from those who have taken wine on the Royal.

Boarding royal on 17-November, they had a small table set

up just after you pass through the carry-on x-ray / scanner.

It had bar staff, a one-stripe officer, and a stack of bar checks

    for charging.

It is before you get your room card, but presumably, they can obtain

your cabin number from your boarding pass, and later convert to your

    folio number.

If they can handle a giant stack of hand written bar checks when

a ship calls at Princess Cay, this should be ice-cream.

  4. MUTS is not a necessity ---- It is nice, and can be enjoyable if the movies are something you like.

I've noticed that entering the main show lounge on most princess

ships requires climbing a short flight of stairs. In all cases, there

is a complementary ramp available for people who are unable to

    negotiate the stairs.

Certainly entering the show lounge is not a necessity of life, but

it is nice that there is a ramp available.

But, this is a holiday, and princess says they are the consumate

host. If someone came to my home and wished closed captioning

on the TV in the guest bedroom, I would do everything possible

to make it happen. I would do it just to be courteous to my guest.

On Princess, lots of people ask for things that are not a necessity.

    Extra pillows, matterress toppers, etc.

Princess is there to make your vacation as enjoyable as possible.

  5. We are doing last minute booking just 3 weeks out on Emerald. We are experienced cruisers who strongly prefer early dining table for two. Due to postings on this forum we are concerned about long waits for table for two under Anytime dining, yet assume that as last minute bookers we would have trouble getting a table for two under traditional early dining.
The best way is for the maitre d' to remember you from a previous cruise, in such a way that he offers the accomodation. Second best is to book a suite.
  6. Even my nail salon has closed captioning on its television.
I had one of the first sharp lcd tvs. It had a way to reverse the caption display -- so that if you were in a barber shop, watching the tv in the mirror in front of you, the captioning would appear correctly in the mirror.
  7. I think that Princess should step up and have better services for The Deaf community and the hearing impaired so that we are able to view what is being shown on the MUTS screen!
What is even more insulting -- the onboard sourced programming that princess has purchased -- Food Network, Discovery, etc. There is alsolutely no excuse for that not to be captioned in the cabins. And yet, it isn't always. I thought it was amusing last week that I got to see Paula Dean again on the Food Network, courtesy of Princess' previous purchase.
  8. There was one issue we had about which we would welcome other comments and that is the production shows. We are big theatre goers in the West End so always eagerly await the production shows on any cruise.

We saw “Words and Music” which, as many of you will know, is a compilation of Broadway and West End hits – and was therefore right up our street.

Purely by chance I looked at my watch the moment the show started – it was great but was all over so quickly. I checked and it had lasted 29 minutes. Is that not ridiculously short?

Princess shortened the production shows from about 45 minutes

to about 30 minutes, so they could squeeze in three reps per night.

This was really the only solution on the super-grand-class ships,

where the number of pax greatly exceeded the show lounge capacity.

What is sad -- if you have seen one of the full-length shows, and then

you see the shortened show, you are left asking "What happened to..."

    So many disconnects, now...

  9. Some people seem to want low fares to start, and then re-faring at even lower prices, and then the ability to avoid any and all on board expenditures such as bar bills.

The funniest is the people who are miffed when the corkage

is five-times the cost of their three-dollar wine at walmart.

I somehow doubt these people are a demographic that princess

    hopes to attract.

  10. Ah, thanks for the correction. I kind of thought that, but I wasn't sure if most ship had that system. Point is the same, opening your door will not have any effect on the neighbors.

    Burt

I disagree with your point... Opening your door may or may not affect nearby cabins, depending on how close to the limit the system is operating. But, it doesn't matter. People here don't care how they affect others, there are endless posts about it.
  11. Opening your door won't change the flow of main A/C source or how much your neighbors' rooms pull from it. It will add heated humid air to the return air which will make the system less efficient over all. But the neighbors shouldn't be effected by your open door.
The system works with chillers -- much like a domestic 'split' a/c system. There isn't any return air.
  12. The cruise has been booked since March. My sister and I are taking our daughters on a trip. It has been planned for quite a while and I don't want to disappoint the family.

If I felt like I was cheated, it would taint the entire cruise for me.

I would move my reservation, and my family's reservations to

    a different cruise line.

  13. Off topic but why would someone do something like that?? Would they flush the fruit bowl contents down the toilet at home???

People do whatever they want when they are away from home.

Lots of people here talk about sleeping with the balcony door open.

Few people would heat or air condition their home, and then sleep

    with a door open.

I have read here of people putting duct tape over the louvers

on the cabin door. How many people would put duct tape

    on the own (inside) walls?

However, I do often put the contents of the fruit bowl into the toilet.

I do this by eating the fruit.

  14. The answer seemed to be it was the room steward's problem and that he had to get on and clean it (all the balconies under his control).

This seems to be standard procedure for princess 'management'

-- whenever there is a problem, beat some low level employee

into having to kill themselves, rather than actually addressing

    the problem.

For instance, imagine some sort of automatic washing equipment

--- like on many of the outside windows -- that was run at 0300

every day to flush away the soot.

  15. It is great that you were able to post pictures showing the problem.

Without those, the cheerleaders here would have been hell-bent

    on discrediting you.

The only person who must hate it more than you is the steward

-- who has to clean the balcony, and has to clean the cabin

after the soot is tracked inside.

I guess all you can do is be like howie mandel -- request a gazillion

towels, and lay them down side-by-side.

  16. Hey Island Princessers...wish we were boarding today! How is the embarkation going? Is the wine table in full effect? Let us know :)

    Bon Voyage!

Wow. The obsession here is amazing. I think it would be entertaining for a few fake IDs to post disinformation about the situation.
  17. He carried his rum in his princess coke tumbler and mixed them at his seat be it at a bar, dining room or show. He was very proud of his system. He estimeted it saved him hundreds over the cruise, he said all hs mates do it on celebrity because there drinks are even higher thn princesses.

There is nothing funnier than a schlub coming up to a bar with

rum in their coke tumbler -- hoping to use their coke sticker

-- only to have the bartender give the tumbler a quick rinse.
