  1. If Princess were to offer an alcoholic drink package, they'd have to raise their per-drink prices significantly.

    Why?

Princess can set what ever price it wishes, if it decides to implement

a drink package. Similarly they can set whatever price they wish for

    individual drinks.

They can adjust either price to achieve what they think is maximum

    profit.

  2. I can tell you what they do with money left on the card on the last night.

Your cabin phone will ring around 2am and you will have to go down and retrieve it.

I found this out the hard way.;)

    Mike:)

Then, you go down and they say, we were kidding -- we will credit it to your credit card. Then, a half-hour later, they call back and say

no, we do need you to come down, and give you cash.

Then, when you try to disembark the apass will alert that there is a problem with your card, and the rudest J.A.P. ever will drag you out

of line, and not even apologize for having not removing the APass alert when the problem was resolved.

I found this out the hard way, too.

  3. I would suggest everyone who is having a problem call in and report it rather than just waiting.

Isn't that always a more productive plan, than people posting here

    about problems?

I have never seen anyone identify themselves as being from the

    princess IT department posting here...

  4. Sounds like many of them are making up rules as they go, for whatever reason they want. Or, they're just not properly trained. Either way, it makes for a frustrating experience for the passenger.

Sounds like an excellent introduction to Princess' claim of

being "the consummate host". I wonder if these BVEs achieve

the intended marketing purpose of promoting princess to potential

    customers, or just the opposite.

  5. Can't be too much worse than having non-functioning toilets when passengers are aboard.

I believe on the carnival triumph, as the situation progressed,

pax relieved themselves in plastic bags, and crew member carried

    away the bags.

To me, that would be worse.

  6. I also figure that the crew will be a little more rested and they will not have the drama of a turn around day when we board. Hopefully it will make boarding very smooth.

    Ummmm --- maybe not.

If the dry dock is in a decent place, crew will work all day, and then

be off the ship all night partying. They can almost never get off

the ship at night, so it is really used when they can.

Same with overnight in St. Petersburg. I had one waiter tell

me that he comes back to the ship in time for breakfast service.

And, it might not be that pleasant on the ship during dry dock,

when a/c might be off, and working toilets are somewhere off

    the ship in the shipyard.

  7. Looked at my personalizer and I am now "Ruby", not "Medallion" level. Honestly, I don't care what they call me just so I get on the ship~:D. But, did Princess do another change??? Thanks!

Maybe Delta Skymiles Medallion members wanted benefits...

  8. I'd like to say thanks for the great idea about avoiding the buffett line, made by Kentskie early in this thread. It said you'd ultimately consume less calories at meals by eating in the dining rooms, (versus going to the buffett & piling on a Mt. Everest of food on your plate!)

Except ... the dining room is no longer open for lunch on port days.

    A major disappointment to me.

  9. Just got the following email from Princess. So nice of them to clear that up the day before I sail. Oh well, I will carry my folded up Patter in my pocket as usual and still have a wonderful cruise!

Just take a picture of the patter with your iPhone.

  10. Thank you so much!

You need to be careful picking a balcony on coral.

Some are way under an overhang, and some are out

to the edge of the ship.

We had an edge-of-the-ship style, which was good for

panama canal, as a lot of the action was straight down

from the balcony. They also opened the crew deck area

forward to pax once in the canal. I don't know if they

would do this in alaska, or not.

The only thing that was wierd was that it took two

elevator rides to get to the dining room.

Elevator - walk - second elevator.

  11. I would choose Coral Princess - along with the size of the ship comes the size of the passenger load - Coral Princess is very well laid out and has a low passenger density compared to Crown Princess.

Whenever I have been on Crown/Emerald/Ruby in the carribean,

and there is an afternoon shower -- the interior public spaces are

super crowded. There just isn't enough room if people are not

on deck. I can't imagine what it would be like in Alaska.

The only thing Coral lacks is a Crown Grill, but I would still pick Coral.

  12. I can assure you that at 3 AM Internet on Princess is very responsive and possibly even faster than at home. Very few, if any, other users trying to use it at that hour.

I have used the internet twice while onboard during a crew drill.

Most pax off the ship. All crew at their emergency stations.

    Internet very, very fast.

So, I agree -- quite fast when you can get all the bandwidth,

slows as you have to share with more and more people.

Just like serving yourself in the lido...

  13. It' supposed to connect via free onboard WiFi. The WiFi won't be for Internet connectivity - only for Princess@Sea. Any Internet connectivity is a different connection. I don't believe you can connect to Princess@Sea using a "regular" data connection.

Right, but ... previously you had people who turned their phones

off to avoid any charges. Now people will want to turn their phones

    on for princess@sea.

With one of my phones, it will start grabbing data as soon as it's

turned on. You have to have remembered to put it in 'airplane mode'

    before you turn it off.

  14. I was just looking at the pre-cruise entertainment email from Princess via my Cruise Personalizer, and noticed the following, way down at the bottom in the corner:

You can also take advantage of Princess@Sea once onboard, our new FREE service available on your smartphone or tablet that allows you access events, venue & port information as well as your stateroom account!

I know that this is new on the Royal, but I hadn't heard that is has been implemented on other ships. We will be on the Star Princess on July 20 and would love it if we had this on board. Anyone know if this is correct??

I wonder how many people will accidently incur roaming and data

charges that they are not expecting...

  15. Yes, and then check. Everyone makes a mistake. There is no IC according to the Princess website.

If I am going to check the princess website, and accept that,

then why ask here at all?

But, you're right -- this case could have been a simple mistake.

But, there are so many inaccurate, sweeping, pronouncements

    here that it is comical...
