  1. Correct! It was an unseen cruise-by on our list, and an itinerary location for QV's recent Norway fjords voyage. @photosg was aboard, and has contributed many great photos of their experiences in a separate thread here on Cruise Critic. Romsdalsfjord is port/cruise-by number 597 (we're getting close to 600!), and number 37 for Norway.
  2. Many thanks! Hope you have a great day in Santander.
  3. Here is a new cruise-by, courtesy of another Cruise Critic participant, @photosg. They have very kindly given me permission to contribute the photo here in our Where in the World game. (Thanks!!) Apparently it had become dark by the time the Cunard ship arrived at the exact cruise-by location in the itinerary, so this was as close as they got while it was still daylight.
  4. Thanks @photosg! Is this photo the one? If so, can I have your permission to post it over in the "Where in the World" thread?
  5. We've had to pull all our winter gear out from storage also. Not much call for wooly things in Brisbane. Even winter days here are typically mid-20s C, and southern hemisphere summer is already here this week with 30-34 C each day in advance of our departure for London. So I think Norway will be an "interesting" change. I like the occasional holiday in the cold, although I'm quite glad to not live in it. Will you be "shredding your axe" while aboard (guitar visible in the back right corner of your photo)? 😎
  6. Are you on QM2? We've been in QG Q6 9.003 before (on an upgrade from PG), and it is a very acceptable Q6 location. I realise that a forward cabin has the risk of greater pitch movement, but I like to feel I'm at sea and QM2 has good stability throughout. So personally, I wouldn't pay for a change from Q6 to Q5, but that's me. Now, if the offer was for Q4 or higher, that's a whole different proposition. Unfortunately that's something we've never been fortunate enough to do, either paid or courtesy of the upgrade fairy.
  7. Best wishes for your crossing segment, @TheOldBear! We board in Southampton on the 1st. When we booked (so long ago it seems), we considered adding either the east or west transatlantic, but it was easier at the time to arrange a London return flight from Australia. On the ventusky.com weather site, it looks like you'll have some waves in mid-Atlantic. The North Sea and the coast off Norway are calm (for now).
  8. Ah, I found the signpost. Looks like it is on Princes Parade between the Landing Stage Terminal and Liverpool Waters? Google street view shows the hedge, the signpost, the Road Closed Ahead / Diversion sign, and the lamp post. I'll guess your photo was taken prior to 2018? The lamp posts look to have changed shape from a double lamp like in your photo to a single lamp on street view images.
  9. That's Liverpool, based on the lamppost, and the signpost showing arrows for William Jessop Way, Princes Square, and Princes Parade. But I can't quite find the precise location of the photo.
  10. Given that @sogne contributed two photos, one of Lismore lighthouse on Eilean Musdile and the other of Firth of Lorn, should we add two cruise-by locations to the seen list? Or is Firth of Lorn the only official Cunard cruise-by and the lighhouse does not count as such?
  11. Happy to see that Ursus Cunardus have made a return! I hope they will be on QM2 next week. @photosg, did you happen to get a photo of your Romsdalsfjord cruise-by during your Norway segment? It is an unseen cruise-by in the "Where in the World" game. Best wishes for the rest of your voyage!
  12. Thanks @Colin_Cameron and @exlondoner. I've changed the language for Stornoway to Gaelic, and Holyhead to Welsh. Also upon further consideration, I've changed Barcelona from Spanish to Catalan. Those changes grow the number of unique languages to 54.
  13. FYI, narrowly missing out for the number 10 spot, tied for number 11 at seven Cunard ports each, are Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, and German.
  14. It is a rainy Sunday here in Brisbane, and @Essiesmom freed up time that otherwise was going towards researching @bluemarble's recent Puerto Quetzal photo. So I've gone ahead and added "Language" as a field in the Cunard ports dataset. Not surprisingly, English dominates as the most frequent primary language of our 593 seen ports, at 204 (34.4 percent). The top 10 languages are shown in the below graph: These top 10 languages cover a total of 470 ports, or 79 percent of the current total of 593. There are 51 unique primary languages across all of the seen Cunard ports and cruise-bys. To identify the Language field, I used the following guidelines: Google was my reference source for the official primary language(s) of each country. Where a country spoke multiple languages, I used the official language that Google reported as currently spoken by a majority of the population. Where different parts of a country spoke different official languages, I used the relevant language for that specific port. For example, Quebec ports in Canada are classified as French and other Canadian ports as English. Flemish ports in Belgium are classified as Dutch, others French. Greek ports in Cyprus are Greek, others Turkish. China ports are either Mandarin, Hainanese, or Cantonese. etc. I did not attempt to distinguish between smaller dialect differences. For example, all dialects of Arabic are combined into Arabic, French and French Creole are all French. Spanish and Catalan are Spanish. Australian, Scottish, Geordie, Cornish, and English are all English (🙂). I hope I have not offended anyone in the process! Questions or comments?
  15. Well spotted @Essiesmom!! Very impressive. One of the searches I tried yesterday was for "Central America flying bird" but I guess that wasn't specific enough to bring up any images of the Quetzal. There are several photos on wikimedia commons - here's one of them. There have been a few changes to the other clues in @bluemarble's photo. Looks like the pilot boat got replaced with a newer version, and moved into the water from off the pier. The cargo cranes got replaced to a different shape and colour in a newer container facility. But the silos are still there, as are the cargo warehouses. Good challenge, thanks @bluemarble.
  16. This search has given me the idea to add "Language" as a field in the dataset of our seen port list. A task for our next rainy day in Brisbane, or an upcoming long airplane trip.
  17. That's a good thought @North West Newbie. I thought the logo looked vaguely Mexican / Aztec also. But yesterday I looked at all the Mexico ports on our seen list (there are 10) and couldn't find a match. Of course I might have missed somewhere. I see that @Essiesmom has eliminated Costa Rica. The search continues....
  18. There's a lot of good clues in this photo - the logo, the pilot boat, the silos, and the cargo cranes. But I haven't gotten a match on anything. The logo especially should have come up in a search, with its distinctive shape and colours. I'll keep trying later today, although I may need to wait for an additional clue.
  19. I guess because the birds aren't flying "over" the shoreline, they can be ordinary seagulls. 🙂
  20. Looks like Oslo to me also, concur with @North West Newbie. Perhaps a webcam on the roof of the Oslo Town Hall opposite the Rådhusplassen? Oslo is one of my favourite cities. I went there regularly for work when living in London in the early 90s. QV's refit makes it challenging to distinguish between QV/QE, and the photo resolution has blurred the name on the bow. But I think QV tends to go to to Oslo more frequently, so I'll play the odds and guess the ship is QV?
  21. Ah yes, Pentland Skerries lighthouse does look like a better match than Pladda lighthouse. Pladda also has both high and low lights, but the low light of Pentland matches @sogne's photo much better.
  22. Pladda lighthouse, Isle of Arran, Scotland?
  23. Congratulations both! I didn't think that photo could be solved. @bluemarble, how are you counting this cruise-by? Is it new port number 591, or is it an alternative view of Corfu?
  24. Wow - was I surprised this morning. Doing MyCunard checkin for our upcoming QM2 voyage. MyCunard prepopulated and accepted our passport details, no worries. MyCunard accepted our payment card, no worries. MyCunard accepted our uploaded photographs, no worries. Downloaded and printed our boarding passes, no worries. Downloaded and printed our luggage tags, no worries and no formatting issues. What was I doing so wrong to have this happen??? 😀
  25. Nice photo @sogne, particularly with the colour of the sky reflected in the water. But the single lit habitation on the shoreline isn't enough for me to guess the location.
