  1. Not really shocked at all. Inflation and supply / demand all at work. Carnival can't afford to cover all the brunt of rising costs. They are inevitably going to pass at least some on to customers just like every other business is doing.
  2. The Carnival Hub app does not, this may be included in Verifly, but not sure as I have not used it. Yes, the Carnival Hub App does offer a chat feature to others on the ship. It is $5 per cruise if I remember correctly. You will use your boarding pass to board the ship. Barcode is not on the app. As the topic suggests, your cards will be available at your door when your room is ready. There is no video on the app. You simply go to your muster station briefly for life jacket demo and to get checked off. It takes less than a minute. There is a safety video on your room tv to view at you leisure if you would like.
  3. It hasn't for me. It's always been the next day when the steward serviced our room. I don't use it very often because there are on certain things I will even use it for. When I used it on Mardi Gras back in April, I had it ready that morning and got it back the next morning.
  4. We never found a way to turn one on during our recent Mardi Gras cruise. Not sure if it had one or not.
  5. Yes, they call them in numerical order, sometimes while self debarkation is still going on. Pick the earliest zone you can find. Zones 1-3 (or up to 5) are reserved for diamond and platinum guests and are delivered directly to those rooms with special instructions.
  6. I just looked at that for a cruise next April. There are 296 reviews on the Carnival site, some good and some bad. You might read through some of those to get some thoughts. Honestly, Amber Cove is one of our least favorite ports. We've been several times, but really haven't found anything we liked. We did another inclusive beach day back in April. It was okay, but certainly not the best day or worth the price. We decided for our next cruise we are just going to stay on the ship there.
  7. When we cruised out of N.O. in January on the Valor it was $100 for a five day cruise. I guess that means it's $20 per cruise day.
  8. I hope not. We don't sail on it until September! 😀
  9. You book the cruise with your card and then go to the Barclay card website to redeem a credit. Like mondello said, if you wait until 100,000 points it is a $1,500 credit, or 1.5%. If you redeem under that, it is only 1% (i.e. 10,000 points=$100). Since you have the points you obviously want to use them, but for future reference there are much better cards out there. Citi offers a card that is 2% cash back for everything. I did redeem the Barclay 100,000 points one time and then I realized that with my Citi card I would have earned $2,000 cash back to be used for anything instead of the $1,500. I only use the Barclay card now to book excursions for the 10% credit.
  10. Yes, but most not quite as much. I have about 20 stocks in my general trade account. Carnival is by far the most volatile. At this moment it is down 5.45% today, while others are only down under 2% and one is actually up slightly today. If it were not for the onboard credit, I would not have bought Carnival because it does tend to cause whiplash.
  11. Unfortunately it didn't stay there long. Back down below again today. Hopefully, it will just be a short drop and then go back up again.
  12. We enjoyed our cruise on Sunrise last September at about half capacity. However, we would not want to cruise on it at full capacity. It would feel very crowded as public spaces are small.
  13. Part of that has already happened and I'm guessing the rising price will follow sooner or later.
  14. From past research, it is my understanding that these are two different medications. Bonine is meclizine, but Dramamine is Dimenhydrinate.
  15. My wife was very nervous our first cruise because she is very prone to motion sickness. We've been on 20 cruises now and she hasn't had any major issues. We always book a cabin in the middle of the ship both ways (usually deck 7 mid-ship) for ships like Sunshine. It was deck 10 on Mardi Gras due to the public decks on that ship. We always want cabins above and below us (for noise, not motion). She takes ginger root and Bonine. Bonine is better than Dramamine because it is non-drowsy and doesn't make you feel sluggish.
  16. I agree that supply and demand play a large role. However, you cannot tell me that Carnival can continue to charge the same price for a cruise when their food prices are increasing just like those of everyone else (some stats show 10+% on food). This when Carnival is still losing money. Yes, they are making adjustments in offerings, which will help cut costs some, However, you can only make so many cuts. The increased capacity will also help some, but sooner or later you have to figure in the cost of your product.
  17. Yes, it certainly seems reasonable that they will be going up. It really is not just a supply / demand issue, but it is likely also an inflation cost issue. It will likely be a combination of both. It won't affect us much next year except for extras. All three of our cruises for next year were booked with the special 50% off offering earlier this spring. We will be paying a whole lot less than we did for two of our cruises this year.
  18. Through church, I have know numerous unvaccinated people who have tested postive over the last three months or so. With the exception of one, cases weren't even as bad as the flu (much like a common cold with a few sniffles and little cough.) One person said they ran fever for a couple of days and felt like they had the flu. My family (daughter, son in law, grandchildren, myself and my wife) had it earlier this summer. With the exception of our grandchildren, we are vaccinated (over a year ago with no booster). All of us had very mild symptoms much like a cold. Personally, I've had colds that were much worse. I did the quarantine, but from the second day I was doing all kinds of work around the house (mowing, painting, cleaning, etc...) My grandchildren weren't tested, but we know they had it because I actually caught it from them. The had no symptoms other than sniffles. In looking at all of these and other vaccinated cases there wasn't really any major difference in severity of cases between vaccinated and unvaccinated. This round was easy to catch, but had very mild symptoms.
  19. We get reminder emails for every cruise. We always pay a deposit and then wait until a few days before final payment due date to pay the balance. We get two reminder emails every time, one about three weeks out and then another about a week out. 20. We have one beginning September 23. I’ve been believing that it wouldn’t require testing since the CDC dropped their cruise ship program. I haven’t ordered tests yet either because I’m still thinking it will happen soon!
  21. Yes, I am with you. I believe it is coming in the next few days. Hopefully it will be like these with mostly no testing.
  22. We've been wondering the same thing. We are booked there before our cruise next month.
