  1. Can someone explain the difference between the two and the differences involved earning each? I hate to ask questions that are probably very basic to most on this forum. If there was a source available I would read through it but I can find nothing that explains a lot of the details in language that is easily understood by the newbie
  2. I was on the Joy 2/19-24 and there was no water provided. My travel partner bought a package.
  3. I think perhaps that sometimes the cruise line doesnt allow for delays, with arrival time too close to ship departure time. Not everyone on the plane booked through the cruise lines. For some it wouldnt matter if they were late.
  4. Thanks, and to Hallux also. I'm learning more each day
  5. I just sailed on the Joy 2/19th. I think the first night there was a time change we received a small notice. I dont remember the second time, I think it was just reminders here and there. The Daily was delivered each evening to the cabin. For me, I'm glad the "turn down service" was discontinued. I can turn down my own bed cover. In fact I left a note one morning not to bother making the beds as we had stuff strewn all over them. I just asked to have the glasses taken away and fresh hand towels. I also bundle up my trash which is usually overflowing the trashcan. Yes, some people are very neat by nature and some are very sloppy. And probably no one knows that more than someone whose job is to make up rooms for guests. So, they get a break with me. And I do tip extra. They have a hard job. The last thing I would want is a personal butler. I'm glad I cant afford the Haven because not sure how I would deal with that. But those that like that service, that is fine.
  6. So, the OBC (that you received by trading in points) can be applied to the final payment (which includes the service charge)? If not, how do you use OBC to pay for the service charge?
  7. Thank you! So its better to use your NR OBC when possible (on things you can pay with NF OBC) first. Am I correct in thinking that if you want to pay for service charges for drinks etc using refundable OBC then it has to be done onboard? (in other words, not prepaid)
  8. Thank you. I will copy this. However, it doesnt say what makes one OBC refundable and another nonrefundable. I think maybe OBC issued by NCL in a promotion like Free at Sea would be nonrefundable but OBC purchased with my credit card points would be refundable. And if I want to use that refundable OBC to pay for service charges (the $20/day/person charge) I would pay them on board. A tip for the program explanation explained by BOA: when you write that points can be used to purchase OBC continue with "and that OBC can be used for XXX (service charges) under these conditions (onboard). I'm thinking that redeeming credit card points for OBC and then prepaying service charges with that OBC is not possible. as the O in OBC stands for Onboard.

  10. Some people on here say that a cabin upgrade isnt the best use of the points. I have no idea yet. I will check the BOA account. I had a heck of a time getting that straightened out. Turns out I already had a BOA online account from 2006 lol.
  11. My NCL World Mastercard arrived today in the mail. I've been reading through all the rules and fine print. My question is "What can you use the points on this card to pay for?" For example, what does the following refer to: "Unless specifically authorized by Us , points and rewards may not be combined wiith other discounts, special rates, promotions or other reward programs offered by Us." One specific question I have is can you use your points to pay for the service charge for the beverage package when the package is a "Free at Sea Deal" since that is a "promotion". Another one- can you use both a CruiseFirst certificate and points on the cruise fare (even when the cruise is advertised "50% off") Thank you.
  12. Thank you, must have been looking at very old posts.Makes more sense now.

  14. thanks for clarifying. The first step for me is to see how fast I accumulate points. I may not need a second card.
  15. Now I'm confused again. I thought that it was the old program that had no limits and the current one does have a limit (the reason for needing more than 1 card) Also, someone said that you dont get the bonus points with subsequent cards.
  16. It is my understanding that the "free gratuities" on an NCL promotion doesnt include the drinks package or specialty dining gratuities. that could be confusing to someone not knowing that.
  17. Still confused. I suspected you wouldnt get any bonus sign up points but can one person have two cards that earn points? One person posted that once he reached the maximum allowed number of points he started using his other one. One person said he had 3. I dont have another traveling person in the household so it would be just me.
  18. But can one person have two accounts?
  19. Do you mean another person in the household apply for a card under their own account? Because I dont think one person can have two different accounts with a charge card?
  20. The elevators were a pain! That's the only area we felt crowded on. I noticed the atrium was often packed but we didnt sit there for long periods of time. I also came back with a cold! I'm blaming the packed shuttle.
  21. This is quite common. I worked for a hospital and we werent allowed to use any electrical appliances that hadnt been checked by maintenance. I'm guessing to make sure they arent a fire hazard. My partner had his electric kettle confiscated and wasnt told they had kettles on loan or it just needed to be checked first. I had a wonderful time on board the Joy but communication seems a bit inconsistent
  22. Wasnt that awful? I think I caught a cold on that shuttle which hit me the last evening of the cruise. If we didnt have suitcases I think I would have rather walked back to the ship. I cant remember if that was practical or not. Not exactly "safe distancing" I'm glad it wasnt Covid. Parking at the new lot made it better coming off the ship. That was only a short walk. The parking lot attendant who directed us there (the other lots were full) said that the Joy would return to that area.
  23. I was on the Joy last week also. We didnt have any problems getting into either the Savor or Taste Dining rooms. It was definitely easier if you went earlier. The one time we thought we'd try the Manhattan room we were told it would be a 30 minute wait so we went to one of the other 2. Is the Manhattan much better with the same menu?
  24. That's exactly why an inside cabin and hanging with the common folk is fine with me. What snobs!
  25. The only places on the Joy for us last week that were too crowded were the Buffet and hot tubs. I think the Buffet would be better earlier Not sure about the hot tubs. No one was in the pool or using the waterslides. It was a little cool and windy
