  1. Apples to Oranges. Car recalls are small incidents contained to one manufacturer and usually just a subset of their models and years. Although the manufacturer does send out numerous letters via snail mail and the news reports on it also. A global pandemic, on which the news reports absolutely non-stop, is far different. The news about vaccine mandates have been talked about in every country ad nauseum. You would have to be living under a rock to not realize there were covid restrictions in different places. Did you know about the testing requirements? Didn't this at least pique your curiosity that after a long absence, the return of cruising might have some covid protocols in place. It is just your word that you didn't get any information. But since the information is easily available for you to find, you won't be receiving any compensation. . Personal responsibility for something so worldwide is a valid reason to deny additional compensation. You will be lucky to get a full cash refund. Hope you have good travel insurance
  2. I was in the same boat. I had researched for a year on who were the best orthos. I finally settled on one very highly recommended and had my appointment with her. Then at my initial appointment she said she only did the posterior approach. That would be a big nope for me. Luckily, a coworker's spouse was an anesthesiologist and recommended a newly minted doc in their hospital. Apparently this new doc was wowing people on what he was doing with hips. He was one of the few at the time that was using the robotic assisted arm. I had my appointment with him and thought I was interviewing one of my son's high school friends, he was so new. But boy am I glad I went with the recommendation. There was no question that the 2nd one would be anterior approach with the robot arm assistance. And the 2nd time I was just as pleased. I did it outpatient. so was in at 7:30, home by 3. PT was easy and so was the recovery.
  3. Any need for bottoms other than shorts? I would plan on underwear. Unless of course, you prefer commando.
  4. Love hearing something positive! Thanks for the great post!
  5. Welcome to Cruise Critic. Interesting complaint for your first post. I would not be planning on any kind of compensatory measures. You might get a full refund if you have a good TA, but from what you posted, that is not the case. This error in communication belongs almost all to your TA. The other big part belongs to you. It is very hard to believe that in a year of nonstop noise from every corner of the world about covid and the various countries' restrictions that you did not pick up a phone and call your TA to ask if there were possibly any restrictions on your cruise. Or even spend 5 minutes on Royal's website. The cruise rules are very well published. Because of this, I don't think you will be able to get any kind of compensation at this point. Hopefully you might get a refund back. Good luck! I hope you can cruise with your granddaughter in the future.
  6. The 90 degree rule is for posterior approach. Anterior does not have that restriction. I have had both my hips replaced (anterior and robotic arm assisted.) I was driving in 1 week on my left and 2 weeks on my right, got rid of walker and cane within a week. If you can find a surgeon who does the stryker robot assisted, it is supposedly way more precise and your recovery is much faster. I can't say for sure that I wouldn't have recovered as quickly having it done the old fashioned way, but anecdotally when comparing with friends who have had it done, my recovery was much quicker and far less painful than theirs.
  7. Color me confused. You book a cruise with a nonrefundable deposit to get a cheaper price and you are now pissed because it is actually nonrefundable and not 100% refundable? Royal has spoiled everyone by saying their nonrefundable fees are actually refundable. Now they are saying they really are nonrefundable as stated. I get change is hard but it is more in line with other nonrefundble fees. Do you do the same with airlines, ie; book a nonrefundable saver flight to save money and then pitch a fit when the airline tells you it is what it says it is, nonrefundable? For a fully refundable flight, they are usually way more $$$. What about hotels? Often you can get a much better price is you book nonrefundable. Do you get mad when the hotel sticks to their policy and tells you "your hotel rate was nonrefundable?" Welcome to the travel industry where nonrefundable usually means nonrefundable. nonrefundable adjective non·re·fund·able | \ ˌnän-ri-ˈfən-də-bəl \ Definition of nonrefundable : not subject to refunding or being refunded
  8. If you are such a rule and protocol follower, how come you have yet to change your avatar after the Washington Commanders deemed their previous symbol and name, one that you continue to display, offensive and an ethnic slur? Seems somebody so worried about protocol would be one of the first to change an offensive avatar. You might want to practice what you preach. It is a good thing Royal Caribbean doesn't give a squat what you think and allows a more relaxed dress in the MDR, even renaming it to Dress your Best on many ships.
  9. I watched that video too. There were 4 people checking paperwork at the door creating a long line outside. However, if you watched the whole video, the TA did explain that the outside check-in was not Royal Caribbean and it was basically out of their hands how that part was run. But they did say they were trying to work with the port to fix it because it did reflect poorly on RCL. https://youtu.be/I1GcOedDdPI
  10. The original 1891 patent application shows "A," just saying
  11. we had to order everything at once, including dessert, in the MDR at least a couple of years ore covid
  12. Remember pre-covid when people would complain about their pay or working conditions, the snide answer would always be "If you don't like it, get another job?" Well guess what? With so many jobs to pick and choose from right now, everyone is getting a better "another job" and not applying for the ones with crap pay and crap hours. It has nothing to do with people not wanting to work. That is a political line being used to make one side angry. It has everything to do with better jobs being available, leaving nobody for the crap paying jobs. It is an employee's market right now.
  13. They can sleep in the suite if you want them there, but they will not get any of the suite perks and you have to keep their cabin for them. Q If I have two reservations can I bid only once through RoyalUp℠ and if accepted, cancel the second reservation and move the guests into the upgraded cabin? A No, if you have two cabins you will need to submit two separate bids and they will be considered independently. RCI cannot guarantee that both reservations will be upgraded. In the case that one of the reservations gets upgraded, you cannot move the other guests into the upgraded cabin. All reservations cancelled within the penalty period will be subject to cancellation fees.
  14. Not anytime soon. The countries they visit will have to drop their vaccine mandates first.
  15. I learn so much from this site. This week I learned that I need to be offended when someone who puts in a ton of work and takes some personal risk with organizing a slot pull gets a few minor benefits. Never crossed my mind before.
  16. So you acknowledge that RCL isn't in complete control of the pricing, although they do earn a commission on the sale of the 3rd party vendors. If I understand you correctly, if you need to purchase a more expensive excursion, an excursion that the 3rd party sets the price at, you are expecting Royal Caribbean to eat part of their profit or even, depending on price set by the vendor, lose money by covering the difference in payment to the vendor? No thanks. Those losses will just trickle down to the rest of us. Just pay up on your excursion or book a private excursion. Crap happens. Oh, and congratulations on going several posts without mentioning your C&A status, although the 60 cruises and lawyer is a close second 😅
  17. And how do you know the right size sim card for your crew member? Again, $$$$ is best so they can order exactly what they need.
  18. Wong said sports jerseys. What sport, what team, what player, what size? That interview was the best illustration that cash was a better option so they could buy their preferred sport, their preferred team, their preferred player, and their size. He also mentioned socks if I recall correctly. What size, what color, crew or calf or knee? Again, cash is king so they can buy what they want.
  19. They never did. They have a decent crew store for essentials and can also order online anything else they may need that is not carried in their store. Just give money so they can buy what they want and the brand they want. I can imagine the jokes around the crew mess hall each week when someone pipes up they got another 40 tubes of dollar store toothpaste again or another bag of 100 googly eyes. If you really want to give gift that is useful and meaningful, wait till you are on board and ask them if there is anything they want or need from the port.
  20. That doesn't make logistical sense. There are plenty of suite guests and pinnacles that sail with children and grandchildren. It would not be good business sense to grant a new suite/pinnacle perk that excludes many suite and pinnacle guests. It wouldn't be long before the complaints rolled in "I paid for my suite and all the benefits, so I am bringing my children." IF they felt inclined to add a new perk, it would be more likely the beach club where children are allowed. But I don't see that happening either. Aren't they adding a lazy river? For free access? Me thinks not.
