  1. We stayed there a few years back when it was the Yankee Clipper. At that time I think it was about the ONLY hotel that was directly on the beach. We did not eat there; think we ate at Shula's on the Beach....which was very good (a steak house). Don't know if you ever saw the movie "Where the Boys Are" or not, but some scenes were shot there--most prominently the bar scene with the windows into the pool.

  2. Oh Dam(rn)M...

Meanwhile, back to you, truffles2... what is the average cab fare to the airport? Do you know if it is done by passenger, or trip or some combo of both?

I have Port Canaveral experience, but Port Everglades is a totally new experience for me...the Planner-In-Chief.

I made notes after our Dec. cruise because I knew I would not remember the details...here they are:

    Debark at 8:00 AM

    in cab 8:15

    at airport 8:22

    $12.90 + tip

That is for two. Probably 3 would be the max that cab could take with luggage.

The above fare was for two of us.

  3. Karen, just heard from someone on Explorer. Yesterday he posted this ...

I am on the explorer as of this posting.Yesterday was such a strange day for sure.

We change course at 3am ast. The announcement came from our " NEW CAPTAIN ". @ 8am

We were later told that the original captain went on vacation , that just seems strange.

This morning I got this response to who was in charge ..

We started the cruise with Captain Tore Grimstad and we returned with Henirk Lot

Wonder if this is in any way related to the medical emergency which will cause Explorer to be a day late in returning????

  4. Captain Johnny was not the start up Captain for all Voyager class ships .Captain Svein Pettersen was the Captain for the Voyager. Captain Arnolf Remo was Captain for Adventure ,Captain Leif Otto Bang for the Navigator and Captain Johnney for the Mariner. So it was only one of the voyager class ships. It slips my mind who the Captain was for the Explorer.

Note that it was quoting "Behind the Name Tags"--put out by RCI on the ships when you board:rolleyes:. Of course, it won't be the first time incorrect info has been given out;).

  5. Capt. Johnny grew up in Sandnessjoen, a small town off the coast of northern Norway. After completing his military service in the Royal Norwegian Navy, he joined RCI's Song of Norway as an Ordinary Seaman. He later joined the Norwegian Naval Academy to study navigation and ship's handling. After spending time sailing around the globe as a Navigation Officer and Captain on oil, ore, car, and lumber carriers, he returned to RCI and was ultimately promoted to Captain in 1994. In 1998 he was appointed to the position of Start-Up Captain for all of the Voyager class ships. (taken from an earlier "Behind the Name Tags".

  6. Maybe instead of a cruise, she should've bought a Delta Faucet. I purchased one several years ago. Recently a part broke. I called up and explained the part, approximately when it was purchased, etc. The person on the other end took down my name, address, gave me shipping times, etc. At the end I asked about any payment. The guy responded "You bought a Delta. It has a lifetime warranty". :) BTW, the part arrived sooner than quoted.

Moral of the story: Um...I don't know. Find a cruise with a lifetime guarantee maybe??

We had a similar situation with Delta. Don't you just LOVE it when companies treat you like that! Highly recommend Delta!

  7. Not sure I got the gist of all your posts (I am kind of slow that way), but I was impressed with your story about Cobh.

We just got back (Friday) from a really great 18 day cruise through Asia on the Diamond Princess. It wasn't the voyage of the Titanic, but it did have a great deal of history in it - especially Viet Nam. I am working on the "review" right now and should have it posted on the Princess Board tomorrow.

Hope you will come back here and post when it is finished and a link in your signature. Thanks.
