Loved Dubrovnik; now I want to go to Split!
-
The first time I went to Mykonos we had to tender. I don't think there was a pier then. There is a place to dock now (we did about 3-4 yrs ago on Brilliance) but it is not so convenient. There must have been another big ship there that beat you to the dock. Looked like two pretty good-sized ships in the bay. If there was a 3rd at the dock, thats a lot of people to dump on the small island.

Love your pictures. I kind of regret not having taken the donkey. Would have been even more memorable.

Hair dryers are provided. There is a dispenser in the shower with soap/shampoo. I take my own shampoo. If you are in a suite, then usually you will be provided with upgraded bathroom items--including lotion, cotton balls, qtips, etc. Robes are not provided in every cabin but you might be able to get on upon request--no quarantee.

Thanks, but you do understand, I was NOT trying to sell her off!:D In retrospect, I probably should not have put that in my "review" as SailorJill is having way to much fun with this.:D
baaaaa,baaaaa:p

I can't wait to find out what the "designated drinker' is:confused::eek:

I'm enjoying your review. Not all JS's have a walk-in closet (which I use as a "dressing room" so I don't have to keep closing the drapes...wish they did. I love having a tub but I agree that the sides are so high it become dangerous entering and exiting:o

I do, that is for sure! I still had a wonderful time on the cruise; loved the people I met, and I even enjoyed England, though I was in A LOT of pain. I'm getting there - my right arm is still weaker - but one day I'll be back to doing one-armed push-ups on it! ;)
I love England and will go any time I get a chance. I agree that Windsor is a charming place also; been there several times but never with an opportunity to stay overnight as you had:p.

Well, Carol, I just finished your saga....what a read! I was on the edge of my chair. I hope you are continuing to get better; I know those things take a long, long time. What an experience. You now have some valuable 'first-hand' knowledge--thats for sure.

I hope she is doing better now. Welcome back to the boards.
What is an Allure "pre-cruise"?
Diana
I really meant the pre-inaugural:rolleyes: sorry.
Our daughter is doing much better--still recovering actually. Thanks for concern. I have now read your report and will start on the other one. What a story!
-
Thanks for the links. I will definitely read them. If it was the Nov-March time frame, I was occupied with some serious health issues with our daughter and wasn't on the boards...in fact, we missed our Dec. cruise and Allure pre-cruise:(
-
Hey Jon and Diana!! Looking forward to the rest of your review! Funny how you brought up our Brilliance cruise! :D
I must have missed something:o....why don't you fill us in a bit about your Brilliance (love that ship) cruise while we are waiting for OP to continue!

There are lots of jewelry stores and stores that will let you sample local wine in the hopes that you will buy some - especially in Fira.
I bought a beautiful Greek key bangle bracelet there. It was no bargain but as it was exactly what I was looking for...I bought it anyway!:p I love the Greek key jewelry.

Another great review, Sailor Jack. Thanks.

Oh, and I forgot to add....the breakfast was very good too!

Anyone stay at Embassy Suites - Miami Airport?
I've stayed at ES in the past, just not this one... and like the complimentary reception & breakfast.
But, wondering about their free airport shuttle... and the cruise shuttle that comes with the cruise package deal.
Any experience/thoughts would be appreciated.
We just stayed there before our Eclipse transatlantic a couple of weeks ago. The 'reception/happy hour' was an attraction. We also ate dinner there and it was very good and very reasonable. We did not use their shuttle. I don't think it is free....it may have been at one time but pretty sure it isn't now. We opted for a cab and the cost was less than $20. We will definitely stay there again.
-
Huh?
It's more like $10-$15 depending on which way.
Or perhaps....which TAXI! The taxi drivers in FLL are notorious for "hold-ups" and ripping you off. Agree to the fare before entering cab.

Very common. It is called "Mal du debarquement" syndrome.

I just got a room at the Hyatt Regency Pier 66 using Priceline. Does anyone know anything about this hotel and if there's a place close by to buy wine and soft drinks? Thanks!
It is a nice hotel but there is nothing close by and the restaurants in the hotel are pretty pricy.

Have no idea how much a Carnival transfer might be but two can get a cab from pier to airport for about $20 so I assume the reverse is true also ...plus you don't have to wait for a coach to fill.

Shula's is WAY overpriced and the food isn't that good. There was a place we ate the last time we stayed at the Westin just a few blocks north of the hotel. But the name escapes me at the moment. I'll do some research and see what I come up with.
What we had was very good--equivalent to Ruth's Chris in quality and price. It was probably about 2 years ago or more.

Hello again,
Back with more questions about Fort Lauderdale. We are staying at the Westin Beach Resort and will be looking for places to eat nearby for breakfast. We generally find that the best breakfast is not necessarily in the hotel, although we may be wrong this time?? And sometimes the amount they want to charge for what they are offering is ridiculous. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Also for dinner, any recommendations for close by or using the water taxi as we aren't planning on renting a car. We would really like to have some good seafood for at least one dinner of our stay.
Thanks in advance.
If the Yankee Trader is now Westin Beach Resort, the Don Shula's on the Beach is right there. Very tasty. Not cheap.
-
It is still a Sheraton but it is no longer called the Yankee Clipper. I think self-parking is $17/day (check with the hotel).
Thanks for the update. WE stayed there once and last time I looked it was unavailable/under renovation. Wasn't wild about it but it was OK. It was where the film "Where The Boys Are" was shot --did you know?

Do you have any idea how to get them? DH has a Kindle.
