  1. Not that I am aware of. The talked about them when the Excel class was coming out but…..
  2. The reason is really not the issue. It matters not, what does matter is where they get the most revenue from and where the demand is the biggest.
  3. But the really good news, is the bashing will continue here full force. 😏 for some, that is the real FUN.
  4. All goes into the profitability of the line and the future.
  5. My guess would be cancellations tied to final payment.
  6. Government lock down mandates can have a ton of cause and effects. These two countries were fairly harsh in the their actions, maybe that has ripple effects. They do what they think they need to then (covid times) and now, and Carnival does the same. Reality 101.
  7. You got me hooked, along for the ride. Good preamble. Having done a lot of “live” reviews, I find the more frequent or close in time that I give my thoughts on it, the easier it is. Just giving some unsolicited advice. The second thing is do not be worried about you think what your cruise style is, it will bore others, because everyone is different. If it works, sometimes, especially with live cruise reviews, a picture is literally worth 500 words. Even if taking it, is to remind you what you made an impression on you or want to say something about. All that said, what sends it home for me is that while there is some cost to do them (we are semi retired and have a travel business, so we need to be online), doing them enhances the experience, while doig the review and after. Enough from me, on with your cruise.
  8. I am sure it will be a topic of discussion, this item and whenever they roll out the program. All opinions count, and people can react however they want. The point I would make, is whether someone likes it or hates it, it is needed. At the end of the day, it will be what it is.
  9. John is the senior spokesman for the cruise line. What should he say other than what he says? It is his job to do just that. I have never understood posts like this. On this particular feature, we know the history, what it started and what it evolved to. It is not like chocolate covered strawberries that have little value, it is real hard cash.
  10. It was a serious question, I get where you are coming from. I just looked at the list again, there are things all over the place, controlled from different perspectives and departments. Would it be perceived better if they announced in stages? I do not think that would go over any better. The end result is we will end up where we end up.
  11. OK, how much notice would make it ok?
  12. How much have they donated (still donating) to St Jude, let start with millions?
  13. LOL, the comparison to bonus and walking the plank may be a little extreme, but the point is valid. When Excel class renderings were announced we were invited to an industry awards ceremony with some big whigs from CCL. I expressed similar concerns on the placement of Havana on the Excel Class. Their response made sense (does not mean we have to agree). Placement of pools is a significant weight factor on ships (location). Higher is worse but what the market wants and lower is better but harder to obtain. They needed the area where Summer Landing is for a pool for the whole ship to use, not a relative select few that book Havana Rooms. We have done both, obviously prefer VIsta Class.
  14. Covid (kind of like the dark ages analogy) messed up a ton in this industry, prob more than any other. Because of it changes have happen and will continue to happen. That said, cruising is always evolving, and options are always a better thing. It is human nature to think the grass is greener on the other side of the street. Cruisers speak with dead presidents, where they spend their money.
  15. Careful what you ask for, you just may get it. Are you really afraid to book a cruise because of the color of the card?
  16. Because things have changed dramatically since then, markets bloom, others dry up. How is each market performing? Is one significantly lower than the others. Is one market significantly more profitable than others. The shutdown and the experiences from it were not planned, it was virginal territory, there is no history or anything close to give a idea of future events and their timing.
  17. I have no factual insight, but things change, all the time. As demand continues to change, so does the “plan”. If demand continues to build (they cannot foresee it growing or diminishing) then they react. As an example, totally hypothetically speaking, due this announcement, the demand down under dries up for whatever reason, Carnival Corp reacts and deploys assets differently (not saying this will happen). That is EXACTLY what happened with the Costa ship redeployment.
  18. If you think the value is somewhere else, then follow that path, regardless of the reason. Their demand and occupancy is at record levels, but if you see better elsewhere then go for it.
  19. Did you have a cruise booked? Was it cancelled? Did you get your money back?
  20. The options and variables are large and it could be complicated in nature. The more that one looks at all the variables, the more someone can understand why it has been looked at for so long and little has happened to date. The easiest choice would be to keep much the same and put some timeframes around it (persistency, if you do not cruise in X amount of time, it expires) kind of of a use it or lose it. Dollars spent is certainly a variable here that gets a lot of play. There are tons of options: trust this. The program is not going away despite claims to the contrary. Bet the ranch on that.
