  1. While this post is about another ship on another cruise line, there was a poster who had me rolling my eyes each time she did a review. She cruised the ship regularly in an aft balcony and, therefore, had to walk the length of the ship at times to reach her destination. Each of her reviews made frequent references to the fact that the ship was a very "trippy" ship. She frequently tripped over the changes in flooring material, entering an elevator, that treacherous first step when going up a stair case, etc. Somehow, she never made the connection about the fact that she started with wine in her cabin first thing in the morning, consumed five - nine bottles a day, and her tripping problem.
  2. I am vicariously enjoying what should have been our cruise. We cancelled because my husband came down with a gram negative rod gastrointestinal infection on November 30 that was completely mismanaged by his primary care doctor's practice and resulted in two hospitalizations and a bowel resection surgery. He is now in rehab until 1/31. We saw the handwriting on the wall and cancelled on January 2 (no way were we going to bring a gastrointestinal bacteria on board ship). We have trip insurance so didn't lose any money.
  3. The soot problem can occur on any ship at any time depending on the ship's speed and wind direction. It is part of cruising and will sometimes happen.
  4. We also like smaller ships. The MSC Armonia was scheduled to be in Tampa for the winter season of November 2020 - February 2021. We were planning to book her while on our early March 2020 cruise of the Armonia. Alas, that cruise was the last cruise of the season as Covid shut everything down and the Armonia has not made her way back to Tampa.
  5. I always check the specific deck plans for any ship I book. My on line travel agency site has a easy to use listing of all the ships for which they book cruises. Part of the information is a detailed deck plan that shows the cabins with symbols that details the specifics of each cabin. As I can't give the specific site name, you might want to check out on line travel agents and find one that has a link for "Ships and Ratings" on their header of the main page and bookmark it. It is an easy way to check on any ship that you may be interested in.
  6. You exact cabin, 6452, is listed on the deck plan I checked as a triple with two single beds which can be placed together and a single convertible sofa bed. Be prepared for the cabin steward to not be willing to make the sofa bed back into a sofa during the day and instead leave it as a bed.
  7. OP, As you live in Montreal, I do not know if your Motor Vehicle Administration offers the ID card that we can obtain here in many, if not all, of our states. The ID is a picture ID intended for those who need a government issued photo ID but do not drive. The same documents are needed to obtain the ID (birth certificate and what ever documents your jurisdiction requires) and is offered at a lower price than the driver's license. We obtained one for our daughter at six years of age and was invaluable for travel or other times when ID was needed.
  8. I read the easily available description on the deck plan for your cabin type (cabin 11264, deck 11) on the Seashore. There is a sofa bed. For your specific cabin, there is no indication on the deck plan that the furnishings in the room vary from a standard cabin of the category assigned.
  9. You do not need to sterilize the water. The tap water on the ship is of better quality than the water ashore. If you must have hot water, you can get it in the buffet at the coffee/tea machines.
  10. The bigger issue is the stage 4 colon cancer diagnosis, the chemotherapy/side effects and Celebrity's right to determine fitness to cruise.
  11. While I have not cruised on the NC Sun, I have cruised on the Sovereign Series ships of Royal Caribbean that used the same ship design. In 2004 we cruised on the Monarch of the Seas and stayed on one of the split decks. We liked it and it was only half a flight of stairs (half the normal distance between decks) down to the deck that ran the rest of the distance of the ship's length. If you scroll down in the attached article, there will be a picture of one of the on board ship deck plans. It is easy to see where the A and B decks were on the Monarch. https://cruiseradio.net/final-look-monarch-of-the-seas/
  12. Chengkp75 did post the answer to this type of noise. Something about the cover for the water intake (???) for stabilizers (????) vibrating in rough seas (????) Hopefully he will post the accurate explanation.
  13. The friend who cancels would only get money back if the cancellation is made before departure date and the reason for canceling is listed in the insurance policy or the policy is cancelled for any reason. The remaining passenger than would paid the full fare for double occupancy.
  14. If EPTCB posted the information from the OP's cruise date and itinerary, the answer is in the post.
  15. Money would be more appreciated by the staff and doesn't add to the plastic waste on board.
  16. There is no restriction on what you may bring to Half Moon Cay as long as it is not too bulky and easy to carry on and off the tender.
  17. Even for US citizens, there are those who have never set foot outside their home of Nowhereville, State of Ignorance, who may be shocked and angry that things are not just like home.
  18. An FYI for those who don't know: Bermuda is smack dab in the middle of Hurricane Alley. This means in hurricane season Bermuda may not be ground zero for a hurricane, but the effects (wind, waves) will make docking problematic or cause problems for the ships attempting to reach Bermuda or cause them to depart early to reach their home port. On the other hand, there is not usually the storm systems in the Atlantic in the area of Bermuda during the winter months which will cause problems. Bermuda is a very popular destination in the winter months (especially for those from cold climates). While the ocean temperatures may be too chilly for many to swim and on the cool side for sun bathing, the temperatures are otherwise good for sightseeing or the above water activity of fishing. It isn't surprising that NCL is expanding into cruises in the winter months.
  19. Ships order provisions based on what they project that they will use. However, those projections can be skewed by the passengers on board. I was on a high end luxury cruise line. The ship ran out of cream for coffee by the third day because of a certain large party of passengers who would drink glasses of cream with each meal and pour it in their muesli. The ship managed to get a limited amount at the next port, but the cream was available only upon request and served in 1 - 2 oz portions for coffee.
  20. Not based on being an "experienced" poster. It is based on a life time of living on coastal land where the surrounding water affected the climate and conditions and paying attention to weather to safely swim, cruise or pilot a small single engine air craft. This whole mess started because of the extreme temperature different of one hundred fifty degrees F in Siberia and southern Asia which affected the three jet steam branches' wind speeds, and lead to the in phase conjoining of the Siberia, Pacific and Subtropical branches over the Gulf of Mexico (high winds moving east) with surface fronts (including a low pressure in the Gulf) that has finally lead to the nor'easter currently moving north up the Atlantic coast line. It has been an interesting week meteorologically for anyone interested in watching the developments. It easy to see that there would be impacts on marine, land and air travel as the system developed and not some conspiracy involving the MSC corporation (or any other corporation) to cheat customers of planned itineraries.
  21. For those ships that did leave ports on the east coast of Florida last night, it would be interesting to know their planned itineraries or changes in itineraries that would take them away from the storm's track or outer wave/wind effects after probably rough seas for some amount of time. I am willing to bet (and I am not a gambler) that their itineraries did not take them north.
  22. Thanks to CruisingWalter for his succinct explanation of the right decision made by the Seashore captain to safely bring the ship back to the east side of Florida from the west side of the Gulf of Mexico. Those of us that live in Florida (especially the west coast) and have been following the marine predictions about the low pressure system in the Gulf of Mexico and track across Florida to the Atlantic realized that there would be problems for ships (and air flights). Please read the thread by Essiesmom which is a live review of her trip on the Seashore over the past week. It was obvious midweek that some type of itinerary change was going to be needed by the Seashore to come back into Port Canaveral today.
  23. Please go back through this thread where there are posts about the weather conditions in the Gulf of Mexico over the past week and predictions about the system passage to the east across Florida and into the Atlantic. Gale warning have been up for both bodies of water for several days. So not only has the Seashore been contending with the marine conditions in the Gulf, it has had to contend with the weather system moving east and north as the ship needed to safely navigate the Florida Strait and up the east coast of Florida in gale conditions. The other ships named in this post are coming from the east of the system and had different marine conditions to contend with. Please read another thread on this forum started by a another "new poster" named Ghrider (appears to be the same-oh-same- oh statements that cycled through this forum within the last month made by another somewhat new poster). A retired professional sailor provides an excellent analysis on why the other ships could make the decision to try and make Port Canaveral.
  24. The only US cruise line whose captain can perform a legally recognized marriage is Princess. Princess ships are registered in Bermuda who grants the legal authority to the ships' captains. Unless there is someone on board ship who does have that legal authority, it will be just a for show wedding and and another legally recognized wedding will need to be performed on shore.
