Yes, but they can choose to spend less on board and more in port. The cruise lines will need the passengers to book future cruises and won't if they were over charged. It's about next year and the year after that with this year as a means to continue operations.
Whenever I cruise, I try to bring medicine/supplies to cover most issues, because it always cost more onboard than at my local drug store.

Without a doubt our favorite Carnival Crew member is Frank on the Carnival Ecstasy. He is the best dining room waiter of all time.
Good to know! We will be on Ecstasy this September and I'll look out for Frank😀

Yes, they are looking at what flu strains are in South America to try to predict what will be in North America in a few months. For example, For 2019-2020, trivalent (three-component) vaccines were recommended to contain: A/Brisbane/02/2018 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus (updated) A/Kansas/14/2017 (H3N2)-like virus (updated) B/Colorado/06/2017-like (Victoria lineage) virus.
Darwin approves of anti-vaxxers.
Super interesting, thx for posting the detailed info! I always thought the predicted strains were from India and China, so South America is a new one for me.

My DH and I went out for dinner at our golf club restaurant on Saturday. Our table was on the outdoor deck, but even being outside there was distance between tables. Our server didn't wear a mask (we were not required to wear a mask) and it worked out well.
Last night we went to pick up take out fajitas and the bartender who took our order said we could wait inside, sitting at a booth and enjoy a margarita while we waited for our order. Booths were roped off so you couldn't sit back-to-back and the same with tables. The bartender and wait staff wore masks, we were not required to.
This is how SC is phasing in dining at restaurants.

If we can’t cruise we might get a week Airbnb in Clearwater or Orlando if it is safe to go back to Disney (we have annual passes)
Universal Studios is scheduled to have a phased re-opening on June 5. Has Disney scheduled a date for DisneyWorld?

- Spas - Close person-to-person contact has always been problematic. I see them closed unless they somehow come up with a snake-oil-ish "cure" for COVID-19.
Here in SC we have massage and facial stores opening back up, stating that they will be using enhanced cleaning, masks and gloves. I just had my nails done (yay!!) and I was required to wear a mask, use hand sanitizer prior, sign a hold harmless and there was a plexiglass screen between me and the nail tech.

Carnival can almost always see more. Carnival can play games with what appears to outsiders to try to influence sales.
If that's the case, maybe the cruises that need to be at a reduced passenger count already are. Hmmmm....

You're correct, almost full.
Wife has been watching the rooms for several months now. A few rooms at each level and they are still selling them.
I wonder what the website is actually showing...I've heard reports of PVP's seeing more rooms available when on the website it isn't apparent. Just a thought....

My DH and I can climb the stairs (and we usually do on cruises) but my 82 year old mom has been dealing with issues but not enough to get handicap parking. If I need to wait in line to ride the elevator with my mom, so be it.

I googled smallpox and rinderpest, two infectious diseases caused by viral strains. Both are considered the only two diseases eradicated by WHO. Very interesting info!

I'm not a buffet person either but I wanted to show that Golden Corral has modified it's protocol.

Sounds good!

@MsTabbyKats Our experiences with this pandemic have been different and it's hard to relate to another's situation. I am in South Carolina with a smattering of deaths where you, in NYC have more than your fair share. Please know I am in your corner, wanting you and my favorite city to be well and productive, like I know you do as well. Online threads can get testy, but I know we all want the same goal. Stay safe.

Take the stairs. Do not touch the railings.
If you touch the railings, wash your hands. Just a good practice all around considering norovirus, etc.

Buffet, of course. OTOH, what is Furr's Cafeteria, or Luby's?
I just looked up Golden Corral. They are temporarily implementing a cafeteria-style, where they serve their customers on their buffet lines, or servers bring an endless buffet to your table. I typed that from their website.

You notice there aren't departure times? I think the idea was to have later departure times not only on embarkation and debarkation but also at the port stops.
I haven't yet rebooked our Virgin Voyages cruise yet. It was a comped gambling cruise so I can always book it at a later date.
I'm definitely interested in trying out their product. They are marketing themselves as the anti-cruise cruise and have gone out of their way to do things as differently as possible. It's REALLY unfortunate timing they decided to unveil a brand new cruiseline literally during this pandemic. The maiden voyage was supposed to be in April. They have cancelled cruises out until October.
I'll be interested to find out how it goes. Richard Branson is a unique entrepreneur who thinks outside of the box.

We never walk. I dont get a warm fuzzy from the streets you would have to walk on.
Nassau can feel a little sketchy at times. Took a cab up to John Watling's then walked down. We discovered this street about a block and a half down hill that had a chocolate shop, winery and a really beautiful hotel that we walked through on our own. The rest of the walk down hill to the port was lumpy, we did it but you could catch a cab from the hotel street.

Ok...well it is happening with the scenario outlined.....and this is a web site to talk all things cruising which includes ideas. Bimini has constructed a resort/casino and has come a long way as a destination port which happens to be the closest island to Florida. As a matter of fact the new Virgin cruise line has it scheduled as a port visit.
Have a link?

DH and I could possibly be on a cruise structured like that this September if the Bahamas don't allow passengers to disembark. We'll see...

Too funny!!

You think 6 feet is too much....but the rules are 6 feet and everything will be set up for 6 feet. It doesn't mean the passengers will comply. And, if the ships do sail...I see lots of fights breaking out.
Why do you see fights breaking out?

I love hearing about everyone's Carnival food/drink/dish items that they miss! This gives my brain a break from all the arguing. Thank you for your responses😁
