  1. Last time in Sitka 2017 the old cruise dock had a crab shack at the top of the ramp.  As the boat pulled in some guy put on a big show of hauling up a trap and showing off crabs.  Didn't stop as I was cruising with my mother and she was not into crabs. Will try it next time

It's some passengers who bring and hide them, not the cruise line or ship. You can take them home or hide them again for another passenger to find. On Facebook you can find different groups "cruise ducks". Good luck hunting!

    Almost Easter, its wabbit season

They still have them on each deck usually near the elevators.

On our fall cruise my DS was prowling around late at night and saw a lady fall and break her leg.  He was running around deck to deck trying to find medical clinic and what not.  I asked him why didn't you pick up the house phone (next to elevator) and dial 0.  Concept beyond him lol.

  4. I have used numerous brands over the years and the Motorola FRS have worked very well.  That said, on board ships, and especially something the size of a cruise ship, performance can be sketchy.  In the past when we used to bring them on cruises they were great in port.  We chose to use the vibrate option rather then a signal alert as to not disturb anyone too much.  Selecting an odd channel number and tone reduces interference from other radios.

We no longer bring them with us, but can understand your want to do so.  My DW refuses to use cell phones, no idea why, but would use the radio.  Another consideration would be what ports are you visiting?  In some places you may not possess them.

As far as annoying others, I don't get people walking around with cells on speakerphone.  Last X cruise some dude was in the bar with an iPad, streaming an old sitcom on full volume, laughing along with all the canned laughter.  Ugh

  5. Thanks everyone for all the contributions to the Daily and Fleet Report

Happy Birthday to everyone who's celebrating.

I feel like I'm one of the few that still always has cash on hand.  My two rules are that I always buy Girl Scout Cookies when they come to the door.  I also also buy lemonade from kids that set up a stand, although rare these days.

Genealogy.  My late Uncle spent years tracing family roots and nobodyseems to have interest.  When I buy a new PC I plan on looking at his hard work, perhaps updating the changes.

@marshhawki hope your DH enjoyes the aviation museum. Its not huge but has many interesting displays.  Dependimg on your time, the museum is at the airport, next to the town of Sidney.  Its a charming little seaside town with lots of shops and restaurants.

  6. I swear if Mrs Lobsternight ever orders Britbox it will be grounds for divorce.  She already has access to all the mentioned show and I dislike them all.  Well except for Death in Paradise, I only watch to see the Comissoner, I can relate to him.

Have way too many tools.  Glad my youngest DS is showing a huge interest.  Now I know they won't be sold off for pennies on the dollar once I'm gone.

  7. We are Canadian and have an AT&T pay as you go phone for when we are in the States. Have always had good service in all the Alaska cruise ports.  Sometimes have even got moderate service between ports

  8. @TAW1963 I'm sure you are asleep by now but wanted to make a few comments. Our second cruise out of Galveston was fantastic  what we enjoyed was a beach club in cozumel, brought my niece along  it was a  cruise excursion, glad I booked as it was $50 more, but due to a local celebration we were late getting back.  Roatan was a great snorkel trip, and damn those monkeys that would steal your rum punch.  Belize was a snorkel and shore day after shark Ray alley, best tour ever.  We missed a stop Cancun due to post hurricane damage.  Have fun and let everyone know how it went.  Watch the sun and don't be a deck lobster like we were.

  9. @TAW1963our second cruise ever was out of Galveston on a Western Caribbean. Really was a fantastic trip, hope you have fun

@RedneckBob for years we would fish a specific Sockeye salmon run.  Every year was different, you had to have the right set up or nothingl  the problem was you would make a best guess, but by the time you got there, whatever was working was sold out for a hundred miles.  The last time we fished it, it was a set of 2 hooks, black hooks, no bait, nothing else. How those fish could even see thst at 4am was beyond me.

  10. Out of interest i called HAL yesterday about extra invitations to our renewal.  Not bad, about $14 each.

@JeannyJtotally know about cruising on a budget.  Sometimes one has to consider where it is best to spend the money. Hope everything works out for your renewal.  Also look into the West Coast Departure board.  You may want to spend the night in Richmond (airport) and take transit to the dock.

  11. All 3 tours are good.  If you have never been on a duck then its fun.  If you've never seen a lumberjack show, the guys are quite amazing.  Same goes for the deadliest catch, people really enjoy it.  Being from the Pacific Northwest I've hauled all those creatures in myself, so no need to do so.  Wouldn't think twice about a Gulf Coast shrimp trawler tour as I've never done it.  Why not and enjoy.

  12. @JeannyJI'm sure you will find someone more than willing to take a few pictures.

We were on a sailing and this wonderful couple from the UK were married on board, no family with them.  I saw the groom the next day and he looked sick, he just came back from the photo lab and they wanted $5000 for the photos.  In the end they negotiated $2500, and honestly the photos were just OK. I know if they had asked my wife or I we would have gladly done the photos as we were 5 days at sea.

Another quick comment, years ago I had my mother on a  cruise and on deck some random passenger came up and offered to take our picture.  It was the best picture ever taken of the two of us.  I brought it bedside to her during her final days in hospice, and now sits in my livingroom.

Quick thought, some ships have a chaplain of some sort.  Perhaps they could do vows

  13. Think I've had it all  avocado, harvest, stainless, even a few chocolate brown tiles left in one bathroom.  For now we just keep it all timeless with white.

As far as fridges go, the main one is a side by side. Best part is the ice and water dispenser.  So quick and easy to get a glass.  I drink so much water now.  Guess I should change the filter one day, been about 5 years
