  1. Was in juneau in May with someone with a walker. If it is collapsible, no problem getting it on the mendenhall shuttle. Probably a challenge to walk to nugget falls but enough to do around visitor center.
  2. I love Skagway. But other than the Klondike museum, I am outside of Skagway. Train, Yukon, hike etc.
  3. So did I, but that was very unusual weather. Warm and no rain. Plan for cold rainy weather at the glacier so you can enjoy it. Take the puffer jacket.
  4. No to renting car without passport. I would also find out if you will have any issues boarding the ship. Good luck.
  5. If you book with the cruise line, the tour is typically through Allen Marine. You can stow walker, scooter or wheelchair in bus. They took my sister down to boat in their wheelchair. The restroom was inside and little bigger. May have had a bar also. My sister stayed inside boat and enjoyed the whale watching. We were there 2 weeks ago.
  6. Are the dog sled demos going on at this time? What about a hike near the visitor center?
  7. I second doing a tour with Chilkoot Charter to emerald lake in skagway. In seward, how far out does the kayak go? Lots of people enjoy the kenai fjord 6 hour boat tour for wildlife and glacier viewing but not active excursion. I loved landing on a glacier in juneau but they are canceled a lot so have a back up plan
  8. I am leaving for Alaska in 12 days. Email from celebrity said no test, no mask. Don't need to be vaccinated.
  9. I don't do balconies anymore. Never know what the weather is going to be. I put the money into excursions instead of a cabin. Plenty of public places to enjoy the views. No regrets getting an inside cabin.
  10. The causeway if you like scenic drives and walks. I enjoyed the titanic museum but liked the scenery of the causeway much better. I like history but I did not care for the black cab tour.
  11. Tendering when very quickly last year and the tour operators worked around it.
  12. What's your mobility challenge? A lot people on the Alaska or disabled forum can make recommendations if you are more specific.
  13. The tour operator will direct you to the cruise line.
  14. I would go with Juneau. They usually offer 100% guarantee even if it's only a tail. I never heard of whale watching in ketchikan.
  15. When I cruise solo, I just book cruise only but I am not a drinker. These crazy supplements is why I started booking escorted tours. I don't eat for 2 people etc. Are you listening Celebrity?
  16. In Alaska, you can definitely find independent tours but some will direct you to book with the cruise line. If you are more specific about which tours that you are interested in, people can make recommendations.
  17. Last year, we were scheduled to dock at the railroad dock in skagway in August. We tendered instead and it was no problem. Just took a little bit more time tendering and tour operator was aware of that.
  18. Yes, not there yet. Never had to use service at the port and really don't want to.
  19. My cruise is on Friday and no luggage tags available to print online yet. XPress pass was available awhile back. Does this have anything to do with a move up offer? I wouldn't think so but thought I would ask.
  20. Thanks everyone for the comments. I got a very good deal with my original booking with FBC but that was months ago and didn't have issues before. But it's a new world. I actually think it has been less of a hassle traveling the last 2 years then it is now. FBC got back to me that I am officially booked on the Aug 19 return at 11pm. No aisle seats left, so had to book a window seat which makes the overnight flight even worse for me. I decided to cut and run since the current flight that I have is awful and wait times to find out anything is days/weeks. I have a feeling that they aren't going to waive the $200 penalty anyway. I booked a return flight with the airline directly for $280 (direct 5.5 hour flight with aisle seat). If they waive the $200 penalty, I will take the refund if I can get a cheaper one way direct inbound. If not, I have a back up flight. Lesson learned. I am guessing if I don't use the American airlines flight at 11pm, that I get no credit with AA or FBC, correct?
  21. I booked flights and cruise months ago for a cruise to Alaska (Aug 12-19). The flights have constantly changed the last 6 months, but the last change for the return flight went from 1:30pm to 10:30pm. Since I am flying from Seattle to east coast, this will be an overnight flight. When I call Flights by Celebrity, they are telling me that I can't just cancel the outbound since it was booked roundtrip even though the other ticket is with another airline. The outbound is with American so we can only go through American and I am being told it will take 7 days to find out if American will even accept the 10:30pm flight (someone goofed recently and booked me on Sept 19 flight). I asked about canceling the entire ticket then, and was told there would be a $200 penalty fee by Celebrity. I asked Celebrity to put an email to waive the $200 penalty fee since the airline changed the return flight to an unacceptable time (moved from 1:30pm to 10:30pm overnight flight). They said it would take 72 business hours and I should call on Tuesday. This is very frustrating that you wait on hold multiple times and they still have to send it to a back office for multiple days' wait. Question: Does anyone have any idea what the probability of the $200 penalty fee is waived if the airline changed the flight by more than 9 hours? I paid $278 for the flight with Celebrity and the flight is currently $600 (but direct). I am willing to pay $300 extra for the flight to resolve/ get decent flight/ not have to work on during vacation, but probably not an additional $800 ($600 for new flight and $200 penalty). I am debating about just booking a one way return flight at $300 and just using the outbound on my current flight. Any advice/thoughts? Thanks.
