Carnival Stock Drops Again After Earnings Report

The question does not exist and shall never exist unless one foolishly toils to quarry the rock and build a wall of logic. Only then will the question that evades the wall be revealed. -
Carnival Stock Drops Again After Earnings Report

Ah! Grasshopper begins to learn! How can an answer not be wrong? Being the correct answer to a different question. Change not the answer but the question and you shall always prevail. -

My SO’s Guam Birth Certificate says CERTIFICATE OF LIVE BIRTH
icft replied to TimsGirly's topic in Carnival Cruise Lines
In the end it is not a question of what the document is called but rather who issued the document. They are looking for a government issued document recognizing the birth. As others have noted, the general rule (I don't know of any exceptions but that doesn't mean there aren't any) is that hospitals issue certificates of live birth while states issue birth certificates. But if some state decided to call it's certificate "Certificate of Existence of Oxygen Sucking, Carbon Dioxide Producing Parasite on Mother Earth" it would do. -

I agree Carnivals free room/lousy cruise experience route is a loser. The better route would have been maintain price and cruise experience. The only reason we cruised Carnival since covid is the free rooms (actually, taking casino cash, port fees, taxes and gratuities into account they pay us to cruise). We would not pay for the experience Carnival offers these days (other than the way we do pay - by engaging in an activity we enjoy such as gambling). Paying for bad food, waiting in lines for everything, being woken up at 9am for commercials and subjected to the unsavory customers Carnival attracts these days would not make sense to us. As it is, we have started booking NCL and are deciding which of the few Carnival cruises we have booked we will cancel (probably all but the Journeys cruise). My wife was assaulted on the cruise we just completed so even with Carnival paying us they are charging more than we are willing to pay. I figure some will say NCL is no better and they might be right. We will see. I accept it is a real possibility that covid and inflation have made the traditional cruise experience a thing of the past, never to return. In that event I think all the cruise lines are headed for reorganization and/or bankruptcy.

As others have said, Carnival has not gotten better over the last few years. I think it is more like Carnival has fallen off a cliff in the last few years. You might also want to consider that December 2024 is a long time from now. Personally I would not book a cruise that was important to me on Carnival that far out. We frequently take Carnival cruises but they are really throw away cruises that are essentially free (casino offers). It is quite possible Carnival will be bankrupt by December 2024 and you are left with nothing.

We love those rough weather days. It makes you really feel you are at sea rather than in a Phoenix convention center. One of the reasons we don't like the larger ships is that they take away the feeling of being at sea. When you get to 10 it will be easier to walk straight. -

Yeah, Carnival is kind of like one of those time-share "free vacations" of old. You go but have to put up with constant sales pitches - spa, art gallery, pictures... But they think of it as being like Google - free Gmail so they can feed you spam ads. -

Does anyone know why the Amber Palace has these eagles all over? They look like something associated with Germany or Austria. -

So why cite a company that lost its shareholders a boatload of money as an example of anything? I think you said: "But that isn't anything that a shareholder looks at. They look at ROI. Take Spirit Airlines for example. They are known for horrible experiences and poor customer service. Yet their shareholders look at the numbers." Spirit would not appear to be an example of the wisdom of investing on the basis of ROI. Things besides ROI often matter much more as Spirits stock performance over time show. You have alluded to such in citing the travel industry as a whole. Perhaps Spirit shareholders did look at ROI at the time they bought. That would be their mistake. A wise investor does not buy based on current performance. The investor is concerned with future results and how the company can, and plans, to improve future results. Sometimes the facts of the world mean there is no "can" and sometimes the "plan" of management sucks. ROI is a result. The wise investor looks at the factors that will affect future ROI results. Management's strategy for the future will impact future ROI much more than current ROI will affect future ROI. I happen to believe Carnival's strategy will lead to bad things and worse future ROI. So, bottom line, I reject that investors place oversized value on current or past ROI. I believe the strategic plans of management are a more significant factor and I believe Carnival's strategy of "provide the worst experience customers will endure" is a losing strategy. -

When it comes to corporate strategy there should be no difference between the board of directors and executive management. If there a difference in corporate strategy the board isn't doing one of its basic jobs if it does not replace executive management. -

And Spirit shareholders who bought five years ago are sitting on a 61.5% loss. Those unlucky enough to have bought early December 2018 are down 69%... -

Well, I support the OP. His first post kind of put me off, but his follow-up explanation aligns with my feelings. Carnival management did an outstanding job at the beginning of the pandemic. They were ahead of the other lines in securing financing for the coming catastrophe. But that was then and this is now. The right leaders in one situation are not necessarily the right leaders for another. Winston Churchill was perhaps the greatest wartime political leader in history. He lost the 1945 election having just orchestrated the defeat of Germany (greatly due to his ability to draw the U.S. into the war). Why did he lose? His plans for peace did not fit the voter's ideas for peace. Carnival's board handled the war extremely well, but their ideas for rebuilding the business are, in my opinion, a path to failure. -
