  1. So they don't appreciate yet advertise it on their website as a "fun" activity to get involved in. If some folks find it to be fun, why not let them have their fun? A small rubber duck inconspicuously hidden isn't going to ruin a vacation. There are a lot of other reasons cruising has gone downhill- and most of these can be attributed directly to cruise line cut backs, not some ducks.
  2. I'd say that the hurricane probably did quite a bit of stirring up over that area. That's how I feel about cruise line private island areas by cruise lines. It's the same as being on the ship (to me at least) but with the added bonus of the cruise line trying to squeeze even more cash out of you for their own benefit (versus the benefit of a local economy if they were to stop in a non-private port).
  3. I really appreciate Cheng's enlightenment. It adds a TON of value to these boards and discussions.
  4. Good to know that each of the sinks as well as the dishwasher onboard has these systems. The one I worked on was quite old at the time (and not onboard a ship) but I remember having some issues if we didn't have hot water to begin with. I definitely appreciate the insight you've provided on this thread!
  5. As someone who has worked in a commercial kitchen and has used a commercial dishwasher, I'm aware of how some of them work. I'm also aware that if you don't have hot water to begin with, most commercial models don't boost the temp enough to make it go from room temp to where it would need to be to sanitize the dishes. But if you care to enlighten me, feel free
  6. This was my first thought as well. If the galley doesn't have hot water all day, there's no way that the dishes are being cleaned to health code standards.
  7. Thanks for sharing your experience with us! I'm really curious (based on other discussions on this forum), do you feel that the aft balconies give enough privacy? I know you're on deck 12, which might provide for a bit more, but with the ships design do you think it's enough?
  8. What a neat view! We're sailing on the dream in cove 2346. Did you find there was any noise form the galley above you during the night or was it quiet enough?
  9. Ah, I've never heard of those! This thread has been really helpful to exploring different options. I really don't think the Atlantis experience is truly 100% what they market it to be, but it's nice to see other options that are a bit more realistic and inclusive in their marketing efforts to to the community.
  10. And i also expect her to name their next ship after my firstborn cat.
  11. The entire industry is an example. New ships get rolled out, prices for those sailings increase, then newer ships get announced and prices fall on sailings on older ships, like what's happening with Oasis class ships right now, even within their own class. I doubt it'll decrease in price a ton, but as RCL's competitors roll out similar products and services, there will be a price to compete with a beat for customer base.
  12. That's a funny way to phrase it 🙂 Cruises have, for a very long time, overcharged for what they're providing. But I imagine with Starklink, the initial equipment costs are going to be astronomical and it's going to be a novelty service (like the oasis class ships, for example) so it's going to be expensive for the first year or two. (Equipment cost reference on their website
  13. Definitely no reason to be sorry here. Be safe down there! I'm wondering if @wolft927 made the drive yesterday? The last thing Florida needs right now is tourism trying to make their ships when their coastal cities are under threat of storm surge. I wish companies would have taken the hit a few days ago and cancelled things earlier, to be honest.
  14. Right. I think what I'm getting at is that on the Mardi Gras specifically, and other ships of that design (Princess has a ship based on that design as well), people might become more reluctant to purchase those balconies once they find out they will have zero privacy. The exact selling point that made aft balconies so popular is greatly diminished with this ship's design.
  15. Is the lobster included, or an upcharge? If it's included, I'd do what @PrincessArlena'sDad suggested and order both!
  16. Right. It's a strange concept for sure. I really enjoy having open deck space for everyone to enjoy, but I also think the concept devalues the very selling point of those rear facing balcony cabins. That photo you posted solidified for me that I'd never want to be in one of them lol.
  17. Ultimate Dining Package. Oasis-Class ships have a ton of specialty dining that's not included in the price of the sailing as seen here. The commenter recommended the UDP to take advantage of them, as they have really good reviews around these boards, plus, it would alleviate any concern about lines for food as you'd have reservations.
  18. In some ways, I understand why they'd just use normal glass and make those rooms like any other balcony. On the other hand, I'm genuinely wondering why they didn't consider frosting those windows to those balconies or offering a button to frost the windows or something (like hotel bathrooms that are glass have, for example). I know it would be more expensive to do both of those alternate options, but it seems like being part of the museum exhibit would come with a reduced rate or some privacy considerations.
  19. If you can make it past the wild vendors at the port who harass you on the way, that is.
  20. This is the best way to look at it. The cruise lines are in a huge rush to placate their shareholders and returned to service too quickly given staffing and supply issues. Good luck with the rough seas, hopefully they find a pocket of smooth so y'all can enjoy the rest of your cruise without seasickness!
  21. If the cruise was already paid in full by both and one doesn't show up day of, I don't see why they'd suddenly up-charge for single supplement. It's not like the second traveler is going to be refunded their money at that point. If anything, I'd think OP's +1 would want to get a covid test to see if they have it. If they do and notify carnival within 24 hours of the result, they could get a FCC according to Carniva's guidelines.
  22. I'll let y'all know. We haven't done it yet lol.
  23. I don't know if that's true. I posted another thread in this forum on this topic, as I had to do a double take at booking a cruise leaving out of Galveston, TX (as an example). I really wasn't sure if that port would be friendly to us if we stayed there given the political climate in the state and the amount of folks from TX that will be onboard a ship.
  24. The mini refrigerator in the cabins are actually not refrigerators, they are only coolers. They all have notices on the door saying as much. OP really needs to contact Carnival's special needs dept. for their options, which another helpful commenter already posted a link to.
  25. I was waiting to see who was going to tell him XD The new celebrity cruise only fares are super competitive, too, IMHO. Carnival does just fine not rolling the drinks in. I wasn't sure what the poster was really trying to say in that post, though...
