3 good days today - food safety is something we shouldn't have to worry about, it should just be. We have a working VCR as we've not converted tapes to digital but have thinned the tape collection to under a dozen.

I am aligned w/Ms Kennedy's quote. Pass on the meal & the drink, maybe try the wine, not been to the port. Big day in history for Vatican City - they've sure been a trivia answer many times since then 😉 I was present for the Christmas tree 🎄 installation in Vatican City last year😎

Yesterday's plans changed quickly - the searing pain that woke me up at 4am settled into my right side and lower back. Urgent Care would not see me saying I had to go to the ER. Luckily there is an in-network ER hospital less than 2 miles from my house. If it was appendicitis they would have to transfer me; kidney stones they could treat. I was rooting for stones 🫣 So by 3:30, I had canceled both the OT & PT appointments as well the remaining work calls and was headed home w/4 Rx, an apology for the pain that was in my future & a signed authorization to excuse me from work for a week. Dr said let them know if I wasn't ready to go back then & they would amend the RTW date. I canceled today & Mon PT and will address the rest daily. I really need to keep Tues eye appt if possible; otherwise, that will be 3 missed procedures. I made it through 3 work calls before I told bossman I was done & setting on OOO; he was thrilled.🙄

Thank you everyone for the D-Day rememberances yesterday.

Currently 73° w/79% humidity headed to 95° & 81% humidity. It's an Ozone Action Day, so take care when going outside. Rains return on Sunday.

Prayers 🙏 and positive thoughts for all.

Elizabeth I’m so sorry to hear about the terrible pain you’re in. I pray for help with it soon. Like Vanessa, you shouldn’t have to wait for medical intervention so long. Good wishes sent your way. 🙏🏻

  2. Good morning friends!  Today is a sea day as we head back to Ijmuiden, Netherlands to end this Baltic segment of our cruise.  We’re feeling some motion on the ship today which is new because this has been a very calm cruise.  The weather report says 54F, it’s partly cloudy and some rain showers are possible.  This morning I got back to work cross stitching in the ice cold Ocean Bar, then went to lunch where I had half a Dive-In burger along with some "Cake Me Away" chocolate fudge cake (a few bites) with a scoop of Rocky Road ice cream.  I shouldn't have but I couldn't resist.  Tonight is Pinnacle Grill again!

Thank you Rich @richwmn for today’s Fleet Report and Daily.  World Caring Day and World Food Safety Day sound important and necessary.  I wonder if we even have a VCR stored in our storage room?  Probably not.  Interesting quote by Jackie Kennedy.  I’ll pass on the meal, drink and wine.  A big day for the Vatican in 1929.  Thanks to our F&B ladies for their reports today, Debbie @dfish, Dixie @summer slope and Ann @cat shepard.

Prayers for our Care list folks! Tana, Terri's DH @Cruzin Terri, Joy @Seasick Sailor, Jacqui @kazu, Jane @lazey1, Ann @Vict0riann and Chuck @catmando to name a few. Hoping all the pain, infections and various ailments are on the mend.  Prayers too for DB and the twin sons of great nephew Alex and wife.  They are coming along fine and getting closer to full term!  Prayers also for Israel and Ukraine, the hostages remaining and our military members overseas.  A prayer was answered for me yesterday and I made sure to say thanks this morning. 🙏 For all celebrating happy events in their lives, and for all cruising, have a wonderful time! 🚢 Thank you Vanessa @JazzyV for keeping and posting the lists every day for us!  We appreciate you especially during the trying times you’ve experienced.

The destination today is Kings Wharf, Bermuda, a new one for the Daily.  Therefore no links today.  I have been to Bermuda before but we docked right downtown in Hamilton on the Prinsendam.  We ended up visiting St. George’s, Bermuda that day and enjoyed our time spent there.  If you have been to Kings Wharf before please share some photos with us.

Hoping this is a great Friday for you all.  Please stay safe and keep well!

I honor all who protected our freedom on DDay.  From LeHavre, we took a moving and educational tour with Overlord Tours.  Our guide pointed out the Star of David on several of the crosses. Unimaginable bravery.IMG_8219.thumb.jpeg.91a10d6cad03ec5b5703ea3433c805de.jpeg

A bit of information about the Creative Educators International Network, they are a non-profit, based in Washington, D.C. who implement Value-Creating Education in different ways and in diverse settings around the world. Their vision is to protect and advance the dignity of life for a peaceful, sustainable world through Value Creating Education. Their mission is to expand the network of diverse educators and individuals committed to creating sustainable communities through courageous dialogue and effective actions.

We will be there in August with another couple docking in Oceankaj.  I have explored public transportation (~5US pp one way) options and the cost of a taxi (~40US one way) to Nyhavn where we would like to begin our day with a canal cruise.  Do you recommend the shuttle?  Is there only one pick up spot? Thank you for any insight you can provide on Copenhagen.  I hope you are feeling better and enjoying the cruise despite the rainy weather.

Unusual weather for MD last night.  Several tornado warnings for our area caused us to retreat to the basement.  Minor wind damage close to my home, but the main problem near me was the 5+ inches of rain causing flash flooding. I am thinking of everyone who is experiencing weather issues especially those who live in areas with the extreme heat warnings.

Tina the cruise terminals (1 through 3) at Oceankaj are a long distance from town and you need some way to get out of the the port area. Apparently there is local public transportation here on the main road that runs along the terminal parking lots. There was a woman outside with information on it.  If you would like to figure out bus routes ahead of time it would be very inexpensive to get to the city center. I didn’t notice any taxis but that could be another possibility. They had Ho-Ho buses available too. We just used the ship shuttle because we have extra OBC to spend. There is one drop off point near the Little Mermaid statue on ved Norgesporten. (?) No other drop off or pick up spots closer to Nyhavn than that. We walked to Nyhavn zigging and zagging slightly to see other sights and it was 4 miles round trip. If we were docking at Langelinie we would be able to walk the entire route. We’ve done the canal boat ride before and enjoyed it. I hope you and your friends have a great day in Copenhagen.

  4. I've been in Tracy Arm several times.  I know for a fact we were there twice in 2009 on B2B Sapphire Princess Alaska cruises, then again in 2019 on the Amsterdam 14 day Seattle round trip Alaska cruise.  That one was the best because we got to see the many smaller ports HAL provides with that itinerary.  Both times were in September and we celebrated our 40th and 50th wedding anniversaries on those cruises.

In 2019 I recall sitting in Crow's Nest and watching the many, many whales we saw in the Tracy Arm Inlet.  The waters were so calm.

  5. Good morning friends!  Thursday means Copenhagen, Denmark for the Zuiderdam.  We were along side by 7 a.m.  Unfortunately we are docked far from town so there is a fee of $19.95pp for a shuttle ride to a drop off spot a short distance from the Little Mermaid statue.  It was a brisk 50 and windy at breakfast time, but at least the sun was out.  Clouds have moved in and there is a chance of afternoon showers.  Right now it's 59 so quite near our high temp of only 60. We took the shuttle bus ride and then walked 4 miles from there to NyHavn and back.  Unfortunately we just missed the returning shuttle bus by less than 1 minute and had to wait an additional 25 minutes for the next one, in the brutal wind.  I think a little nap is in order after I post.

Thanks Rich @richwmn for the Fleet Report and Daily as well as the maps today.  Of course we can all recognize and honor the D-Day invasion in 1944.  In the good old days drive in movies were pretty popular but there aren’t that many anymore.  Hurray for creative educators. Gardening is certainly a good way to get some exercise but I found a sore back is what I usually got out of it.  Love the weather quote and will pass on the meal, drink and wine.  Thanks Debbie @dfish, Dixie @summer slope and Ann @cat shepard for your reports this morning.

Prayers for the Daily family and there are many of you with issues right now.  I hope for improvement for you all! Sorry to hear your wound seems to be infected Joy @Seasick Sailor.  Get that taken care of pronto!  Prayers also for DB, Alex’s baby boys, the people of Israel and Ukraine, the poor hostages, and the troops in the region.  Congrats to all who are celebrating special events and cruising.  Thanks Vanessa @JazzyV for once again coming through with the lists for us.  Great job!

The port today is Tracy Arm Inlet, Alaska.  This was the port before way back on April 28, 2021.  We went there once and I have photos but will have to redo them.  Here’s the link to the prior date for you.

Hoping you all have an enjoyable day.  Stay safe and keep well!

  6. Good morning friends!  Today we docked in Kiel, Germany and it appeared as though it had been raining.  Lucky for us the skies cleared up and was a good day for exploring town.  Temp was 55 earlier and it’s only going up to 60 for a high.  It was brisk out but we walked around for about 2 miles and headed back to the ship.  Just as we arrived an ambulance pulled up to pick someone up in Medical.  Always a shame to see that.

Thanks Rich @richwmn for posting the Fleet Report and Daily today as well as the maps.  Let’s recognize baby boomers and long term survivors of HIV, but what is the festival of popular delusions?  Witty quote by W. C. Fields.  The menu suggestion, drink and wine sound interesting but not to my taste.  The Marshall Plan seemed to be an excellent plan to rebuild Europe.  Thanks to Debbie @dfish,Dixie @summer slope and Ann @cat shepard for your reports today.

Prayers today for DB, Alex’s baby boys, the people of Israel and Ukraine, the hostages in this never ending nightmare, and our fine men and women in uniform overseas trying to keep the peace.  Special prayers for our group of Dailyites in need of them, the latest being Jim, Terri’s @Cruzin Terri's DH.  Hoping for better days for you all!  Cheers for all celebrating special happy events and cruising.  Hope you are all enjoying them.  Thank you Vanessa @JazzyV for your lists today and for fitting it all in with your busy schedule.  Hope all is going well with both you and BFF.

DS tells us Ren is taking his 4th year English class this summer so that he will be eligible to graduate from his high school in Texas in December.  His buddy Colton in Colorado is doing the same so the two of them will be available to begin college classes in January 2025.  This way they would have a leg up on working and training with their new soccer coaches and teammates  at university - Notre Dame for Ren and Indiana University for Colton.  They’ll both be in the same state!

Today’s port is another new one – Mystery Island, Vanatu.  I haven’t been there before but see it’s on the itinerary for our Princess booking in 2026 (provided I’m still cruising then).  No links today and no photos from me so please show us what Mystery Island is like if you have any pics to share.

Since I have no photos today to share how about the latest Milo and Sadie pics?  They went to the groomer the other day and DD says they just posed themselves like this when they went outside with her.

I didn’t expect to post this late, but here I am.

    What a day!

Just because one orders wheelchair service doesn’t mean it is going to happen.  It was 0 for 3 today.  No service in JAX, or MIA or in Barbados.  AA will hear about this, not that I think anything will happen.

Our gate was changed in MIA and it was not walkable.  We finally convinces a golf cart driver to take us to the new gate.

We arrived late in Barbados due to a weather delay.  No wheelchair at the plane.  it was pouring.  We were told to get on the bus to the terminal and a wheelchair would be waiting.  Well, DH fell getting on to the bus.  And even then, there was no chair. Then we had to have the medics come and clean him up since his leg was really bleeding badly.  I had ordered VIP service, which did almost nothing.  DH’s slacks and socks were full of blood and he was a mess.  We finally got through the airport and the car I ordered took us to the hotel.

All the clothes had to go to the laundry.  DH getting more and more confused.

We went to dinner and after dinner he wanted to know how many days he’s had the bandage on. I could not convince him that it was only a few hours.

Tomorrow we will go to the medical facility nearby to have them take a look at him.  He has GEOBLUE coverage so it should not cost much, if anything.

It has been a tiring day and it has rained all day.  I hope the sun comes out tomorrow and we can get his leg attended to.

So there is my update at 1 am.

    Terri

wow Terri that’s sad to hear. I have heard others say the wheelchair service is unreliable. What a shame Jim fell trying to board the bus. I hope medical can clean it up a bit and maybe give him something in case it starts to get infected. You both need a sunny day to lounge around at the beach or pool to relax. Hoping things get better soon!

  8. We just got the itinerary in an email for a certain set of relatives for their next voyage, the Zuiderdam for 42 days, just like us! Oh boy...what a treat. 😕 They arrive Saturday at our turnover day in IJmuiden, Netherlands. I was afraid of this happening. I hope we can continue doing what we like to do without them trying to butt in or tag along with us everywhere.

The relationship sort of went downhill during DH's Mom's last few years. They may think this is a fine time to try to get back into our good graces. I'm on vacation here, not looking for therapy sessions. Give me strength!

Funny thing is they probably listed us as their emergency contact for this cruise, and we're on it too so basically that's not allowed. He is on the outs with his family too so we're their closest relative.

  9. Good morning friends!  Today Zuiderdam is visiting Ronne, Denmark on Bornholm Island.  Temp was cool early today at 55 and it's 59 right now but at least there are fair skies.  We walked around the little town for a bit and enjoyed it a lot.  Very clean and charming!

Thank you Rich @richwmn for today’s FR and Daily.  This is the day for all of you cat lovers to hug your cat (if they allow you to catch them).  Thanks for your cat photos Rich.  Funny quote by W.C. Fields.  I’m sure the omelet, Bloody Maria and wine are just fine but I have no appetite for them.  Congrats to the Ryder Cup fans on this the anniversary of the first Ryder Cup event.  Thanks Debbie @dfish,  Dixie @summer slope, and Ann @cat shepard for your reports!

Prayers for all on the Care list, DB, Alex’s twin boys, the people of Israel and Ukraine, the hostages still held, and the U.S. military members in the region.  Sorry to hear about Jane’s @lazey1's Covid diagnosis and her DS’s health issue.  Also hope Tana, Terry @smitty34877 and family are doing well.  Is your foot any better Joy @Seasick Sailor?  And hoping Jacqui’s @kazu's foot is getting enough rest with all that she is working on there at home. Hope to hear Terri @Cruzin Terri and Jim make their connections today along with their luggage, and they can begin to enjoy their getaway.   Cheers to anyone celebrating special events, and cruising!  Thanks Vanessa @JazzyV for your work here on the Daily.  I admire how much you get done in a day with your recent recovery still fresh in our minds.  Hoping BFF is getting better every day!

Today is a bittersweet day.  June 4 is DS and DDIL’s 24th wedding anniversary and I recall their wedding in Berkeley’s Tilden Park nestled in the Berkeley Hills.  With the scenic backdrop at their ceremony, we saw the fog begin rolling in and it got cold quickly.  Thankfully the reception was inside a beautiful building and everything went perfectly.  But three years ago on this date my DS Nancy passed away, and earlier that same day her twin great grandsons were born much too early and passed away too.  That is another good reason to be thankful the latest set of twins for Alex and his wife are doing so well.  Hoping and praying we hear the wonderful news of their safe birth in late July.

Today’s port is Molde, Norway.  This was the port before on March 13, 2021, January 31, 2022, and July 17, 2023.  I have not been to Molde but would certainly love to.  Here are the links for your convenience.

Have a great Tuesday everyone!  Stay safe and keep well.

  10. We're leaving Visby a few minutes late.  Two women were late due to a Ho-Ho bus that ceased running (?) and if they made it back by 3 p.m. they were coming with us.  I hope they did, otherwise they must find their way to Ronne, Denmark by tomorrow.

I snapped a few shots at the botanical garden today for the Garden Club.  Here they are for your enjoyment.

  11. Ajaccio, France

In August 2017 we spent 21 delightful (read that hot) days in the Mediterranean on the Westerdam.  One of ports was supposed to be Calvi on the French island of Corsica.  But due to high winds and seas the itinerary was moved around a bit and we ended up in the capital of Corsica, Ajaccio two days later.  It was a very pleasant surprise.  We couldn’t wait to get out there and explore.

Walking off the ship one of the first things we saw was a group of costumed dancers heading towards their “gig”.

We walked along the waterfront past all the yachts and saw them preparing to entertain everyone.

But my favorite view is of the beach nearby

  12. Good morning friends!  Today is Monday which means the Zuiderdam is in Visby, Gotland, Sweden.  By the time many of you read this we will have left already since all aboard is 2:30 so the ship will be leaving here around 9 a.m. eastern time.  We went over to the city center by free shuttle provided by the city of Visby.  We walked 2.5 miles in the town and enjoyed the old church ruins, interesting architecture, the Cathedral Sankta Maria and the small botanical garden.

Sailaway from Stockholm last night was lovely.  We have a table at the window on the starboard side and enjoyed the view the entire meal.  Once a sailboat got very close to the side of the ship due to other ferry and boat traffic and all I could see was the mast of the sailboat right by the promenade railing.  In the turbulent water alongside us the top of the mast was circling madly.  I sure hope they made it out of the way and didn’t capsize at the aft end of us.

Thank you Rich @richwmn for today’s Fleet Report and Daily.  My goodness, there are some strange days to recognize.  Wonder Woman Day is fine but stuffed shrimp scholars?  Funny quote, an interesting meal suggestion, and no to the drink and Cabernet.  A nice day in history for the Dutch West India Company.  Thanks Debbie @dfish,Dixie @summer slope and Ann @cat shepard for your reports today.

Prayers for DB, Alex’s baby boys, the people of Israel and Ukraine, the hostages who are rarely even mentioned, and our men and women in uniform overseas.  Special prayers for all here on the Care list, Jacqui @kazu, Annie @marshhawk and Chuck @catmando, Tana and Terry @smitty34877, anyone recovering from surgeries and procedures, Ann @Vict0riann, Richard, Graham  @grapau27and Pauline.  🙏

Joy @Seasick Sailor, I’m so sorry to hear about your foot boo-boo.  Stay far away from heavy rocks in the future.  Hope it heals up quickly.  Annie @marshhawk what a disaster with all the water main breaks in Atlanta.  My twin told me her daughter was at a nursing conference in Atlanta and they had a disastrous day of it (Friday?).  No water at the hotel to shower, no restaurant to eat at.  She was grateful to get home and may never want to go back to another Atlanta conference after all that.  What is Atlanta spending all their tax money on if not infrastructure?

Congrats to all celebrating something special and those cruising or traveling.  I hope the Barbados trip is just what you and Jim need, Terri @Cruzin Terri.  And our other Terry @smitty34877 welcome home from your trip.  I hope things are running smoothly now and it was nice of your DB to offer to come help.  Thanks Vanessa @JazzyV  for the keeping of the lists for us.  Hope you are feeling stronger every day and that BFF is doing well, too.

We heard this morning about a FC Dallas U17 game yesterday against a United Premier Soccer league team, DFW Falcons.  It was delayed 2 hours due to thunderstorms and hail, but our FC Dallas team won 2 to 1 and Ren scored both goals for the FC Dallas side.  Yay Ren!!

The port today is Ajaccio, on the island of Corsica, France.  This was a replacement port for a different Corsica port due to bad weather on the other side of the island.  What a delight it was!  I’ll have to prepare a report and photos after I post here.  No links since it’s a brand new port for us.

Hoping all of you have a good day, and no more rock dropping onto your feet!  Stay safe and keep well!

  13. We've been to Moorea twice, once on Golden Princess in 2014 and again on Maasdam in 2017.  In 2014 we went on a private tour with a CC group.  It involved a Polynesian BBQ, ray and shark feeding, sightseeing at a barrier reef, snorkeling, etc.  The day after this we were scheduled on a tour with Patrick in Bora Bora so they were essentially the same description tours, but Patrick's was much better!  Still, I can show you a few photos from Moorea.

I did go out when they spread out a little bit and that was fun, but when the sharks came I got back in the boat to watch.

In 2017 on the Maasdam, we sailed from Papeete to Moorea in the early morning because they are only about 18 nautical miles apart.  A beautiful sunshine-y day!

  14. Good morning friends!  Here in Stockholm there are mostly sunny skies and it's 71F.  We walked from the ship to the city center and saw most of the things we saw 13 years ago.  Total walking distance round trip was 5.7 miles.  I deserved a Dive In burger and Diet Coke for lunch today.  It was fun watching a parade of sightseeing boats sailing past us as we ate lunch at a window table near the pool.

Last night we turned the clocks backward one hour as we moved west to Stockholm so we're back to 6 hours ahead of east coast time.

Thank you Rich @richwmn for posting the Fleet Report and Daily this Sunday morning.  Gun violence awareness is important to us all, no matter where you stand on the 2nd amendment.  I looked up St. Erasmus and he is one of the patron saints of sailors so that is a good one.  A rotisserie chicken sounds good.  Thumbs up to the quote and chocolate tart.  Unsure of that drink and wine.  I celebrate with all who appreciated Queen Elizabeth and the date of her coronation so many years ago.  Thanks to our F&B ladies Debbie @dfish,  Dixie @summer slope, and Ann @cat shepard for their reports today.

Prayers for all on the Care list here on the Daily, DB, Alex’s twins, the people of Israel and Ukraine, the hostages still held, and our troops in the region.  Hoping for better days for everyone! 🙏 Congrats to everyone celebrating a happy event and cruising! 🎉 Thank you Vanessa @JazzyV for your list keeping again today!

Thanks for the comments yesterday regarding the sad situation about the home break in near us in Georgia.  My next door neighbor texted me that there was a lot of fear, anxiety and speculation until the truth came out.   But she feels as devastated as I do for those poor people.  Imagine what this does to the entire family relationship - kids, parents, grandparents.  Pennie @Nickelpenny, you were in a really tough spot and had to step up when you had a similar situation.  I commend you for your bravery.

The port today is Moorea, French Polynesia.  This was the port many times including April 23, 2021, March 28, 2023, July 13, 2023 plus two similar locations that some may have used to post their Moorea photos…Dec. 21, 2023 and March 16, 2024.  Here are the links.  Following that some photos.

Here is the Vaiare, French Polynesia post.

And the Bahia d Opunoha, Moorea, French Polynesia post.

I wish someone could explain why that same photo shows up in four of the links above.  So odd but at least they post and refer back to the correct dates.

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!  It seems like the elevator mat for Sunday came quickly this past week.  We have many ports in a row here in the Baltics and hope we can keep up the pace.  Meanwhile, stay safe and keep well!

  15. We had a sad email from our neighborhood Pod captain.  It seems a couple on the other street in our Pod went on vacation . While away someone broke into their home and stole both their cars and other items of value in the home.  They found the location of one of the cars through the Find My Car app on their phone.  The police had a chase involving one of the cars, an SUV, which was totaled when the culprits ran into 7 other vehicles along the way.  The second car was found in okay shape.

Who did it?  The older couple's grandson and some of his "associates". 😲 People in the neighborhood had been worried about the break in since this is a rare occurrence in our location.  Imagine how humiliating this was to have to admit to the whole community that it was an inside job, and their own grandchild broke in and stole from them?!?  It puts all our minds at rest, but I feel terrible for them.  I can say with no doubt that my 4 grandsons and 2 granddaughters would never, ever do something like that.  Their parents can be proud of them and I let my son and daughter know it. 🥰

  16. Rabbit, Rabbit, White Rabbit! 🐇 Good morning friends and happy first day of June.  We’ve had a sunny morning in Helsinki with temps in the low 70’s.  This afternoon is cloudy and 79.  We took a shuttle ($12pp roundtrip) to Senate Square.  Too far for us to walk today.

Thank you Rich @richwmn for posting the Fleet Report and Daily.   I can certainly celebrate children, parents and the Heimlich Maneuver .  That is some quote by Bob Marley!  Is that the lyrics to a song or a true quote?  Egg salad is okay, but I have no idea about the drink.  I might like the Sauvignon Blanc.  It was a fun day in musical (and movie) history.  Thanks to our F&B ladies Debbie @dfish, Dixie @summer slope, and Ann @cat shepard for your reports for us each day.

Prayers for DB, Alex’s baby boys, the people of Israel and Ukraine, the hostages still held, the military members in harm’s way, and our Care list individuals here on the Daily.  Praying for improvement in your conditions each and every day.  Ann @Vict0riann I’m sorry to hear about the carcinoma and hope the lumpectomy comes soon.  Best wishes to you as you as you heal and recover from it. 🙏 A salute to all celebrating happy events and cruising! 🚢 Thanks Vanessa @JazzyV for your list keeping each day!

The port today is Kos, Greece, a brand new one.  I’m fairly sure I haven’t been there before so no photos or links to post today.  If you have been there and would like to share your photos with us, please do!  Thanks in advance!

Have a great Saturday!  Stay safe and keep well!
