Cool Cruiser (2/20)

  1. "Tell me what you eat, and I will tell you who you are." -Brillat-Savarin If memory serves me right, this quote was displayed at the start of each Iron Chef episode, the original Japanese version, that is. I'm not making a point. I was a fan of the show, and May B's statement reminded me of the Brillat-Savarin quote.
  2. Somewhere in a long-term memory bank, maybe from fifteen years ago, I filed a complaint that they had stopped serving hors d'oeuvres in the lounges, and the only thing available was peanuts or pretzels. I'm sad that your cruise is almost over. (No, server, please don't take the thread away; I'm still enjoying it!) Some thoughts for your post-cruise night in Reykjavik: The Imagine (John Lennon) Peace Tower, The Pearl Museum, and there are probably a dozen other interesting museums, and chess-related destinations.
  3. I see they haven't learned their lesson about creating bad will. But what if they gave you an extra reservation to Umi Uma?
  4. I am so stoked that you are doing another live review! I question your opening with a Gale Storm reference considering all the current weather-related issues back home. 😀
  5. Enhanced or not, deck chairs can be rearranged at any time. 😀 Are Crystal staff accompanying guests on tours? I felt this used to be unique to Crystal, and I always felt good about having staff on tour.
  6. This is where it would be interesting to have access to the old Crystal forum because the new ship wish list has been discussed before. I doubt anyone back then was thinking that there would be as few as 650 passengers!
  7. Yes, but they get to see the photographs years later. I'd be chuffed to find an image of me from when I was two ... and it's guaranteed to not be a selfie.
  8. We hosted three visitors on embarkation day in Boston, in 2014. We had an overnight there so perhaps that was a factor. Dinner at Prego was wonderful and well worth the modest fee. The next day, we hosted two visitors for lunch at Tastes. It was satisfactory, but they took far too long to present me with a bill, and so we dined and dashed. Perhaps they are still looking for me, and so I am hesitant to book another Crystal cruise.
  9. I noticed that the Splendor itinerary from October 19, 2024 (Barcelona) to October 31 (Athens) is no longer on the Regent site. It's more likely a charter, but I thought this was a good topic to mention it.
  10. I can't believe this will matter to most Crystal alumni whom I recall don't even care much about the smallish cabins on the low end of their ocean ships. I will note for the record, that the three newer Regent ships have a better passenger to laundry room ratio!
  11. And I agree with this post. Taormina, Kotor and Dubrovnik make this the better itinerary. And I will note that Naples to Capri is a long haul. Neither itinerary has Sorrento in it, but in the future, that would be the port stop I would want to visit lovely Capri.
  12. I am full-up with Regent cruises for 2023, but am interested in trying Crystal in 2024. By then we will know if they have lived up to expectations. And I was thinking that the six day Serenity cruise from Vancouver to Los Angeles would be a good start.
  13. FYI, I noticed today that Grandeur has new itineraries in New England starting September 2024!
