  1. I don't think even Viking or AMA could pull that off. You'd need a ship sitting around you didnt have cruises sold on, ready, in the right place and a crew to put on it that wasn't assigned to something else (for captains actually this is doable since they tend to rotate on and off the ships, everyone else (other than the cruise directors) is there the entire season. I know that when the Ukraine war started that some refugees ended up on an AMA ship "not assigned to passenger duties' but I suspect later in the season that changes. Now that some lines would be pulling some ships off for the season, maybe but as a rule no. Probably early in the season too, if I recall right Viking had one damaged this year early on and just pulled a ship that was in the "spinup" phase into service Interestingly I was reading marketing email from AMA today even after this year they are ADDING an Amsterdam to Budapest route back in 2025....from April to June......
  2. in that case if its over 300 no one will be talking about it, around 290 likely discussion of it being up to the captain. That stretch hasn't liked to keep water all year, its gone from low to flood to low in what seems like the same week. You'll sail most of the way there, Im sure, that IS a bit of an odd cruise for AMA like I said but I suspect at worst the ship will just never make it past Vilshofen and you might end up bussed straight there from Nuremberg or with a stopover of some length in Regensburg which Im sure was the day1 stop. From there it should be a cruise. But there's a LOT of time before then so I wouldn't sweat it just yet.
  3. for its current cruise? Doesn’t matter pfelling is north of vilshofen. Amasonata is headed to Budapest the limiting point is the bend around komaron not pfelling Most amawaterways trips never go as far as pfelling (a. Few do if they are going to Nuremberg or regensburg but most start or end at vilshofen which is where you are hearing about say Viking doing their transfers from)
  4. onboard there are two envelopes/lines when it comes time to do the tips. one for the cruise director one for everyone else as a pool. You'd probably have to ask the TA.
  5. Some rivers are more frantic pace than others, but youre always going going to dock in a city of some size. Definitely on that cruise the cities (roughly) go big to small as the cruise goes on leaving from Budapest. But yes river cruise ships, pretty much you get back, relax, eat, maybe go to the lounge and then sleep. If its any comfort (probably not) I never saw the bend between Budapest and Komaron either when I did it the other way during normal water (different cruise line) , we docked in that area and were bused to Budapest because it would have taken too long for the ship to do it and still see anything (we saw her arrive after dark). Thats kind of the downside to cruise ships...theyre slow, sometimes they move while you are off doing excursions(and you meet them at a downstream stop, sometimes leaving again immediately), sometimes they move while youre on then.
  6. I expect you'll still make Amsterdam just have to switch ships again between passau/vilshofen and regensburg (or Nuremberg).
  7. Vilshofen or Passau depending on dock availability and how the cruise line wants to do it.
  8. I was on AMADante in 2022 right after she started up an older ship which 100% sat during covid and was the only ship not to sail in 2021 during the restart. They had used the time well to keep her clean and painted. All the ships have sailed a lot since then I wouldn't worry about it.
  9. I would just start writing, I dont think Ive ever heard of someone deciding not to get off a ship before and just booking the next cruise. you might want to say where you went.
  10. That depends on your definition (and the specifics of that ships docking appointment), its right on the river, but it could be a mile or more to any given mooring.
  11. Absolutely correct it will be in the document. In fact they provided a contact for every service they were providing. (From this mays trip). There was a separate general emergency contact section right after this. (I’ve never used the Wi-Fi for calling)
  12. Their documents say Esplanade de la Moselle Wasserbillig right where the grey marker where the bodies of water meet. (their document points at it but the resolution stinks)
  13. I did that segment in 2019 and almost nothing was open that week. I have pictures in Vienna on the 15th of the market stalls at Schonbrunn palace closed. I believe the ones downtown were opening that weekend. But nothing before Vienna was open nor was Budapest.
  14. for me the time slots appeared on day 44, one day after it showed me what was actually available...I guess. in any case I have my reservations in. Not quite as gruntled that every show is "book onboard!"
  15. 45 days was today for me, but I dont see the last step, it goes to the page where it lets you set time and # of people but none of the restaurants show an actual "I want to reserve this" or conversely a 'youre too late'
  16. AMADante has them, all the AMA ships do, I should know Ive sat at one on every European ship class outside the Portugal ones including AMADante herself (and AMAMagna as we've discussed obviously). I did find that there were not enough of them on AMAMagna, I ended up sitting alone at a table for 6 as much as a table for 2 (3/4 passenger load, the table was only set for 4). If you get there at opening time you should be able to get a table for 2, but most of the tables will be larger you can still probably get a table with just the two of you even if its a 4 top. On said AMAMagna trip I only had table mates once (yes this was my choice to eat alone outside that one time when there were no more open tables). If you dont want people at your table they arent going to force them on you, at least I hope no cruise line would.
  17. That was a major reason why I moved my very first AMA Nile date (before I actually paid for it), and I DID look into Ramadan. It sounded like a 50/50 situation. The muslims dont eat or drink sunup/sundown meaning all/most your guides/bus drivers, attraction staff and servers at any restaurants that are open may be low energy or hangry. (plus things close early) But apparently its a positive period otherwise and most of the people are in a good mood Then the sun goes down and its a party.....
  18. as a dedicated solo on AMAWaterways. yes there are 2 seat tables, but some times they will be so close to another table as to essentially be part of the larger table, Looking at pictures of the AMADahlia this is true on that ship as well and certainly will be for AMALilia when she starts next year. Keep in mind a "larger table" might be 4 people or it might just be another 2 top table. In my experience there are less 2 seat tables than larger ones, I sat at tables (alone) designed for 6 (but set for 4) people on AmaMagna in May because there weren't any 2 seat tables available. (usually wasnt a problem as there were usually empty tables, but one day I did end up with guests because all the tables were full...not opposed I just dont seek them out).
  19. If I can plug AMAMagna for just that reason, though regrettably they didnt do it with the "normal" balcony rooms(or the 1st floor fixed ones), the SA and above cabins are about twice as long as a normal room (as the ship is almost twice as wide) I wont say the balcony is huge, but you don't notice the balcony space being chopped out of the living space. Though yes thats only one ship and only on the Danube.
  20. Honestly their 120 day penalty isn't that bad, other than having to pay up front so early. Thats usually when Im making the final payment to AMAWaterways but their stated cancellation penalty at that point is $200 PER PERSON for Europe (more for the other destinations). The real issue here is asking for full payment so far out. 2023–2025 RIVER CRUISE AND AIR SAVINGS: Offer applies to bookings made from August 1-31, 2023. $25 Deposit offer available on all 2023-2025 Viking River Cruises. 21. It’s a standard “euro plug” type e/f but you can also use a type c cable and yes there is one by the desk on the other side
  22. You will need adapters. I was looking at a picture of my suite and I believe there were usb-a ports by the bed but the outlets were euro.
  23. Don like a number of other travel YouTubers can do exactly that, by taking a cruise, talking it up and then somehow mentioning he can book you on that cruise line. I know he runs group cruises and I believe at least some of the future ones are NOT on Princess. I dont follow his stuff that closely but my brain is a collection of useless facts like that.
  24. Did you see the video where he mentioned winning an award from his agency for the most booking volume on princess for many years running. That’s a bit of cooking your golden goose to switch. He did seem ticked in The video you mentioned for sure
