  1. Those wine glasses always bother me, for some reason.
  2. Isn't that dinner every night in Difranco Manor?
  3. I wouldn't expect Disney to be as formal as Cunard or Silversea. I'm trying to remember how fancy it got. I seem to remember dressing up for dinner at Palo.
  4. Someone taking food photos, or even selfies, doesn't bother me too much. It's taking a call and talking loudly (enough that I can follow one side of the conversation) that is unacceptable. Because it bothers other guests. I am having dinner - I don't need to hear about your conversation with your grandchild or your pet or whoever. Take it outside. On a funny note: I still recall the first time I heard the word "selfie" used. I was eating with friends in a restaurant in Key West, and one of them remarked on how there was a Darth Vader helmet fixture in the bathroom, and that I should go in and take a selfie. I had no idea what that meant, and in the context I thought she was suggesting something different. I declined to go to the bathroom.
  5. Will it be enforced? No. Should it be? Yes.
  6. The last time I was onboard a Silversea ship, I remarked on how the Main Dining Room only seemed to be about half full. Because there were so many other dining options, including La Dame. It actually seemed to be a little sad. Now maybe the MDR will have more patrons, so it will be a happier place.
  7. But are they classy sweatsuits?
  8. Now I just read that for traveling to Europe, we Americans are going to need a visa too, starting in 2024. Uggg.
  9. I imagine the laws of microeconomics will quickly demonstrate whether most passengers will take a pass on this as well.
  10. I always thought SO was a little overrated, for the price. I think I still have a few bottles sitting around, including a 97.
  11. I shuddered when I read this... All I could think of is just crunching Melba toast long after the caviar is gone. But, thank you for your review and comments. I've wondered how people are handling that crazy European heat at this time.
  12. Each trip I've been on Silversea recently I've done La Dame, and most times I decide that while the dinner was a step up from the main dining room, and a nice long and leisurely affair, I usually question whether it was worthwhile. And my answer, at least so far, has been that I am willing to go there one time per cruise, but having gone once, I feel little need to dine there a second time. If for some reason I couldn't get a reservation on my next cruise, I wouldn't be upset.
  13. You might already know this, but the real and original pig beach is down in the Exumas, quite far from Nassau. The ones on Rose Island or any other islands near Nassau are just touristy imitations.
  14. What does he say if you don't wear the jacket and tie?
  15. I'm being facetious, of course. And I agree with you, the criteria is behavior. If the child starts acting up, the parents' responsibility is to either re-adjust the child immediately, or remove the child from the room. Even if that means Mom and/or Dad don't get to finish dinner.
  16. Everyone's own children are all delightful, well-behaved younglings, who would be treasured company in the Main Dining Room, and everyone would coo and smile at the sweet cherubs throughout dinner.
  17. That was my initial reaction too. But are they violating any rule or procedure? If I come aboard ship and go straight to the bartender at my favorite bar onboard, and I hand him a $100 bill and say "Be a good lad and make me a gin & tonic whenever I come into the bar", I don't think anyone would think it's a firing offense to accept the tip, would we? Even though what I am doing is essentially paying him to let me cut any lines and get a drink immediately. Now, if there is a ship rule that says you aren't allowed to reserve deck chairs for passengers, or you aren't allowed to make drinks on a "first come, first served" basis, then I would agree, fire them.
  18. So the pool guys are in on it? They must be getting a generous "tip" on the first day to do that for certain guests?
  19. Lots of great reasonably priced stuff. You just aren't likely to get it from places like Bordeaux, Burgundy or Napa. But South America, New Zealand and Australia, even South Africa, is putting out some great stuff.
  20. I do hear you, and you are correct that there is a subjective element to wine. If someone thinks that $8 bottle of Gallo is the best wine they've ever tasted, then good for them (and their wallet).
  21. I'm sure that they would be only distant cousins, at best.
