  1. Yes, but even $85 is a pretty good "retail" price for VC.
  2. I hear you. I've bought the Kirkland labels for home drinking, and have almost always been impressed by the quality / price ration of those wines. And like you, I'd probably not serve them at a dinner party just because of the ribbing I'd get. I suppose the solution would be to just pour the wines into decanters and serve them, and not tell anyone what they were drinking until after. LOL
  3. Yeah, shouldn't be a problem. That being said, I agree that telling the waiter you have a 10:00 pm activity is an excellent idea.
  4. Yeah, a 12 year old and a 17 year old are like two different species.
  5. Gotta love Costco. One of the largest purchasers of wine in the US. They even have their own "Kirkland" label wines which are nothing to sneer at.
  6. I remember certain military dinners (Dining In's), where you could not leave the table to use the restroom until permission had been granted by the officer in charge.
  7. My wife was Ling Lang, back before they merged it with the College.
  8. I concur. That seems a much more logical system.
  9. Fraid not. But my son is a senior there now, so I do get up to visit the old stomping grounds every now and then.
  10. I hear you. But it is a dilemma. I feel like Michael Caine in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels explaining his wine cellar to Steve Martin.
  11. Indeed. It's getting hard to find in a restaurant for under $100. It's like $48 at Costco now. The non-vintage, of course.
  12. I thought it was "Guns and Whiskey" and was really looking forward to that cruise!
  13. I think the only thing you can really count on is that it will be colder than Texas.
  14. I've paid the old price for La Dame ($60 a person) and even then didn't always feel like I was really getting that much of a benefit over the food in the regular restaurants. I certainly won't be paying the new price.
  15. Formal or "formal"? There's a difference these days.
  16. It's not always easy to distinguish a blazer from a suit jacket. Certainly sometimes it is easy. But a dark blue blazer with subdued buttons worn with dark grey pants will look very close to a suit. And I doubt anyone would notice much or care. On the other hand, here in South Florida you get to see old geezers in their green, orange, pink, yellow, red, or purple blazers with shiny metallic or pearl buttons. It's pretty obvious it's not a suit coat.
  17. Yes, but unfortunately, I suspect that enough people will pay, per cruise.
  18. No legitimate business would operate that way, giving you one price and then charging a different one. I hate restaurants that tell you their daily specials but then don't tell you the price for it. "Tonight we have a Wagyu 16 ounce ribeye as a special." Do I have to ask the price, or do I just order it and get a surprise price at the end of the night? Or do I just ignore the special? (Usually I do the latter).
